Eli whispered from the corner.

He insisted Maggie was just someone who had a crush on him, and that there was never anything real between them.

He reached out and gripped my hand firmly.

"Anya, we've shared so much over the years, and we're about to get married. Please… trust me this once."

His expression was sincere, and his voice held no trace of hesitation.

But deep down, I couldn't bring myself to believe him.

I stared straight ahead and said casually, "Maybe… we shouldn't get married."

Eli spun around, his eyes widening in disbelief.

"What do you mean? Anya, the wedding is tomorrow. Don't say things like that."

I turned to face him, a flicker of amusement in my eyes. Eli grew even more flustered.

"Eli… Don't you still have doubts?

"You've always thought I was with you because I had no other choice. You never really believed I stopped caring about Carter."

"That's not true," he said, shaking his head over and over. "It's not like that."
