"Say, Aaron, when did you get divorced from Rachel?"

My best friend, Titus Pearson, frowned as he asked me concernedly, "How could you not have told me about such a huge matter?"

I was puzzled, thinking that it was absurd of him to even say that. After all, Rachel Brady and I were only faking our divorce, and we weren't planning to let anyone else know about it.

So, how did Titus even find out about it?

I looked at him in shock, asking, "Where did you hear about it?"

Titus widened his eyes and spoke in a slightly higher pitch. His voice was tinged with disbelief. "Rachel's already posted her new marriage certificate with someone else on her social media! And you're still asking me where I heard it from?"

He continued babbling on, but all I heard was ringing in my ears as my mind suddenly went blank. I was completely stunned.

I couldn't stop repeating what Titus told me about Rachel showing off her new marriage certificate online in my head. Everything else he said was just a blur to me.

How could that be?

I instantly felt uneasy and even heard myself trembling as I asked him another question.

"Y-You're kidding, right?"

My relationship with Rachel had always been good and amicable. She had looked so upset and sorrowful when she suggested that we fake our divorce, and I could still remember every expression she made at me then. So, how could she possibly have gotten married to someone else now instead?

Yet, Titus' reply was like a sledgehammer to my head, shattering every last bit of hope I was still clinging to.

"I'm not kidding! I'm serious about everything I said!"

I panicked at once and hurriedly fished out my phone from my pocket. My fingers wouldn't stop trembling as I hurriedly dialed Rachel's number.

However, the only thing I heard on the line was the cold, robotic female voice saying, "The number you called is busy right now. Please try again later."

I then pulled up my chat window with her and realized that she hadn't been replying to my messages for a long time now.

I didn't know when it started, but the chat window now only showed the messages I sent to her without any replies. I'd still been chatting with her, sharing photos of my daily life, keeping her updated, and telling her how much I loved her—but now, they were just a laughable, pathetic eyesore.

Still, I refused to give in and tapped into my social media account to find her there. That was when I realized that I had been removed as her follower and thus blocked from seeing her posted content.

Titus sent me a screenshot of her Instagram post. I couldn't stop my hands from shaking as I took a long time to finally get it to show onscreen.

The man in the photos was Rachel's first love, Max Cohen. I still remembered seeing him at our wedding.

At that time, he had been wearing a very fine, tailor-made suit, and he stood next to Rachel looking like he was the groom instead of me.

I once asked Rachel if she still had feelings for him, but she denied it immediately and even swore that she was telling the truth.

But now, I could see the happy smile on her face as she stood next to him in the photo. The peck she was planting on his cheek felt like a sharp knife that stabbed me right in the heart.

I could no longer stop my tears from gushing down my face.

"Say something, Rachel Brady!

"You'd never lie to me, would you? They're the ones who are lying, aren't they?

"You didn't marry someone else, did you?"

The text messages I sent out still weren't replied to, like they'd been consumed by a black hole.

I completely lost it and rushed to the hospital in low spirits. However, I then learned that Rachel's mother, Shirley Jacobs, had never even been hospitalized in the first place.

When Rachel told me that Shirley was sick, she kept choking on her words and sobbing each time. She even lost a lot of weight over the next few days, and I felt so sorry to see her like that.

So, was everything just an elaborate lie she planned from the start after all?

If she really wanted to divorce me, she could have just told me straight away. After all, I wasn't the clingy kind who'd never let her go!

I had to find Rachel. I needed answers from her.

Surprisingly, Titus wasn't asking me the questions on my parents' behalf. He frowned and spoke hesitantly, "Just tell me if you still have feelings for her!"I shook my head. "I don't anymore. I stopped ever since she married someone else."Titus sighed in relief and patted himself on the chest."That's good to hear. Then, I guess I don't mind telling you about it anymore."I was really curious now about what he was being so mysterious about. I urged him to spill the beans, and then, he suddenly delivered shocking news to me."Rachel's dead.""What? Why?""Stomach cancer," Titus replied. "I heard that she was already sick when she attended my wedding back then. She'd secretly escaped from her hospital room for a few hours and then checked herself back in after the wedding to continue with her treatment."She finally succumbed on the night of your birthday and passed on."As it turned out, the last phone call she made was also the very last phone call she'd ever made.I felt

As for Rachel, she came looking for me once after being released from the station. At that time, I had already started up my own business and was as busy as a bee, so I barely had any time to talk to her.I heard from my employees that she waited for me for the whole day outside my office building before leaving without a backward glance. After that, she never came looking for me again. My new company was very successful, and business kept increasing every day, keeping me on my toes.Time passed quickly, and soon, it was the day of Titus' wedding.I wore the best man suit that he personally picked out for me and headed straight for the venue early in the morning. When Titus saw me, he came over to me at once."Hey, Aaron! What's in the water you've been drinking? Why do you look so much more handsome now than ever before?"I rolled my eyes and said, "Stop pulling my leg. Everyone's waiting for you."Titus grinned. "That divorce did you good. It's given you a whole new life!"I

"Officer, Rachel Brady has been relentlessly harassing me and causing serious disruption to my life. And then, her husband, Max Cohen, broke into my house without cause and verbally abused an elderly woman, eventually leading to her death," I said."This is a case for the police to handle, isn't it?"The officer on the other end of the line was a little shocked by how listless I sounded on the phone. He immediately replied righteously, "Of course, sir!"And so, Rachel and Max were "invited" to the police station to assist with the officers' investigations. When Shirley learned about it, she immediately hailed a cab straight to the police station. The first thing she did when she stepped into the station was to raise her hand in the air to slap me.Yet, after being abused by her like that for years, I was ready to defend myself. As soon as she raised her hand, I immediately caught it and shoved her out of the way at once."You bastard, Aaron Matthews! How dare you hit me? I am old

"Don't you find it really ironic, Rachel Grady?" I asked. "We're already divorced, and you already have a family of your own."Kindly know where you stand and stop bothering me!"I chased her off afterward, and she told me in a hurt voice, "You will always be my husband to me, Aaron Matthews, and that will never change."I had been busy taking care of Mom ever since coming home, and I also didn't have the heart to break the news about my divorce to Grandma because of her failing health. That was how Rachel had taken advantage of that loophole.Back then, Dad had opposed my marriage with Rachel, and I was the one who begged Grandma to talk to Dad on my behalf and convince him to let me marry her. If she found out that Rachel and I were now divorced, I was worried that she would begin blaming herself for our misfortune.I simply didn't dare to tell Grandma the truth. However, little did I think that Rachel's constant visits and showing up at my house would also lead Max to find us.

Rachel then shook her head in exasperation and began yelling at Shirley, "Can't you stop making a fuss? I never paid a single cent for this house! Aaron was the one who bought it himself!"Yet, Shirley still continued arguing unreasonably. Finally, I had no other choice and brought up the matter of her faking her illness to commit insurance fraud, threatening to call the police on her. It was only then that Shirley finally backed down before being dragged away by Rachel.I watched how Rachel and Shirley interacted regularly and finally understood why my relationship with Shirley kept deteriorating despite having Rachel as the middle person. After they finally left, I also saw Robert out of the door, and soon, it was only Dad and I left in the house. His eyes were rimmed red as he reached out and patted me on the shoulder."You little rascal. How could you not have told us about your divorce? If Titus had never called us, your mom and I would still have been left in the dark!"Wha

"What? How dare you sell my daughter's house? Who gave you the guts to do that? On what basis?" Shirley screamed in my face."On the basis that only Aaron's name is on the property title of this house!" a loud, booming voice suddenly sounded behind us. I looked up and immediately caught sight of a familiar silhouette."Dad!" I exclaimed, happy. I never expected him to be paying me a sudden visit since our hometown was so far away. "What are you doing here, Dad?"Dad scoffed. "If I weren't here, then I bet my son would have been completely taken advantage of by now!"Back then, I went against Dad's advice and insisted on marrying Rachel and moving to her hometown instead. In a fit of rage, Dad broke off all contact with me, and I could never manage to talk to him anymore after that. But now, I figured that he had probably found out about my divorce.Rachel knew who Dad was, and she instinctively greeted him as such. "Hi, Dad."Shirley immediately glared resentfully at Rachel. M
