Chapter 1

"I fell for Mike Spencer the second I saw him! I wanna be with him! Demi's way smarter—she'll totally crush it running the company!"

Our parents looked ready to hand me over to the Spencers, but Cecilia freaked. Her face turned bright red, like she was about to combust.

Girl was desperate to snag Mike and seal her spot as the wife of some rich heir.

Funny thing? Just a few days ago, she was out here flexing about being a boss babe. Now she'd flipped the script completely.

Mom and Dad were too stunned to say anything, totally thrown off by how fast she switched up.

Me? I stayed quiet on the couch, flipping through the company's financials with a smirk. Even with a second shot at life, Cecilia couldn't help crashing headfirst into the same mess.

Mom kept quiet, but Dad had thoughts—as usual.

"Cecilia, it's better to count on yourself. Sure, he might like you now, but people change. I've heard things about Mike... not exactly glowing. Just think about it. I don't want you getting hurt."

He wasn't wrong. Banking your whole life on some guy? Dumbest move ever.

Dad had seen it too many times—men ditching their day-one wives the second they got rich. The women who stuck around got left in the dust.

No surprise he didn't want that fate for us.

But Cecilia wasn't having it.

Maybe she remembered how good I had it in my last life—chauffeured in luxury cars, stacked bank account, and two picture-perfect sons everyone envied.

She clung to the idea that marrying Mike beat running the company and watching it crash.

Dad's warning went in one ear, out the other. She even poked her ear, annoyed.

"Oh, Dad! That's just 'cause those women were useless! I'm gorgeous and charming—he'd be lucky to have me! Why would he leave? You've met him. He's a total gentleman. Those rumors are trash!"

She looked like she already had the trophy in hand, eyes glowing with pure delusion.

To her, this was a dream path.

Why hustle through endless meetings and travel when you could sip wine and hit parties as a pampered housewife?

I dropped my head, biting back a laugh.

Mike might play the polished prince in public, but behind closed doors? Full-on monster.

He clawed his way up as an illegitimate son in the Spencer fam, and trust me—whatever it took to get there wasn't pretty.

He made me schmooze nonstop, forced drinks down my throat till I puked blood, and couldn't care less.

If something didn't go his way? He'd hit me. I was rocking long sleeves in the middle of July just to hide the bruises.

And the Spencers? Total snake pit—power games, fake smiles, nonstop backstabbing.

That house didn't just ruin you. It swallowed you whole.

How could that even compare to peacefully running the family business?

But she was set. Our parents just sighed and retreated to their room, done arguing.

On her way out, Cecilia tossed me a smug little smirk.

"Demi, when the company crashes and you're broke, hit me up. Maybe I'll let you carry my purse."

I grinned. "We'll see who ends up begging."

Poor thing—so lucky she gets to be smacked around by her doting husband and trashed by her lovely in-laws.

Meanwhile, I'm stuck crying in my billion-dollar office.

Oh, and occasionally hiring a few hot guys for fun.

Dry leaves whipped around the cemetery.Freya stood still, clutching a bouquet, eyes locked on the shared tombstone. She didn't say a word—just stared at the photo carved into the stone.A leaf landed on her shoulder. She sighed, long and slow. Then she turned, fake pouting over her shoulder."Seriously, Demi? You two are snails. My arms are gonna fall off!"Pregnant now, I moved like a sloth. Terrance hovered like I'd shatter. He barely left my side. The shareholders were losing it.He couldn't care less.We finally made it to Mike and Cecilia's grave.I couldn't shake the memory—the sniper across the street, two clean shots.By the time I got there, Mike was already dead. Cecilia was barely hanging on."Demi... why... why did I lose again...? I did everything Mom said. Wasn't I supposed to marry well and live happy?"She'd asked that so many times, I stopped knowing what to say.Once, she really did see me as her sister. But over time, those twisted lessons got to her.

Cecilia wouldn't shut up—going off about how I ruined her life, turned her from some spoiled heiress into a trainwreck.Said she lost the baby after one of Mike's beatings. Somehow, that was my fault too.She swore the second they got the money, she'd kill me, then ride off into the sunset with Mike.No clue what fantasy he fed her, but by the end of it, she was full-on laughing.I nodded, playing along, just in case she snapped early."Totally. You guys are gonna live the dream. I totally lost in this life. So jealous, Cecilia. You're the real winner—your man loves you and you're rich."Mike had clearly messed with her head. She couldn't tell up from down, just kept grinning like she'd won.But that smile tugged on a busted lip from yesterday's beating, and she flinched. While I sat there wondering how much longer I'd be stuck in this dump, an engine roared outside."Mike Spencer! I brought the money! Where's Demi? I want to see her unharmed!"The second I heard his voice, t

I don't know what orders Terrance gave, but a month later, the Spencer family was wiped off Norwick's map. I scooped up all their stocks and assets, easy.Took their spot at the top.Mike? Cut off. His own family dropped him. Rumor was his grandpa died on the spot from the shock.Cecilia got booted too—dead broke and pregnant. She'd been pampered her whole life. I blocked them all.The second they picked money over me, they stopped being my family.***Time flew. I'd been living at the Felton estate for over six months, and honestly, it felt like a dream. After work, Freya's laugh filled the house. I'd been in Terrance's car plenty of times—but never like this.Freya was stuck overseas, so it was just the two of us. Quiet. Awkward. Tense. He'd rushed over the second he got the call. They were seconds away from forcing me to give in—maybe even locking me up.And Cecilia? She dropped the nastiest line yet:"I've known for a while you were reborn too. All your big ideas came from some entrepreneur you saw in your past life. You already had two kids with Mike—don't act like you're still pure."That was it. I snapped. Slapped her across the face. Then I lost it, fighting like hell to break free. When Terrance stormed in, he found me alone, struggling against four people.Hair a mess. Clothes torn. Face scratched. So yeah—Mike got another beating. This time, he didn't get back up.***The tension in the car was suffocating. I couldn't take it anymore."Bet that was a fun little show for you," I muttered. "Still... thanks for showing up."The car jerked to a stop. Terrance

By the time my parents burst in, they found me absolutely wrecking Mike.Yeah, I'm a woman—but after everything I went through in my last life? I came back with baggage and a vengeance.First thing I did after hitting reset? Signed up for self-defense. I'm not a superhero, but taking down one woman-beating loser? Please.Mike was on the floor, moaning, begging me to stop. The more he begged, the harder I swung.Back then, I'd cried, pleaded for him to stop. And he'd said?"The more you cry, the more it turns me on."Cool. Let's see if he's still into it now.New rage stacked on old scars—I didn't stop until I felt damn good. His once-pretty face looked like it went ten rounds with a wrecking ball. Cecilia panicked and ran over with some ice."Demi! Are you insane? That's your brother-in-law! Look at his face! You've been jealous of me since we were kids, and now I'm pregnant—why are you trying to destroy my family?"Then she actually started crying, like she was the one who g

I twitched. Mike must've smacked her one too many times—girl sounded fully concussed.Fifty million? Why not just ask for the whole company while she's at it?Something outside caught my eye. Quick flash, but familiar. I leaned closer.Once I realized I wasn't seeing things, I laughed."So, how's life with Mike these days?"Instant mood shift—hit her right in the ego."What's that supposed to mean? We're perfect, obviously! Unlike you—no guy would ever want you!"Terrance's jaw ticked at that. Weird. No clue why he was irritated.Still locked on the street, I switched to video call."The guy who just walked out of the shopping mall with another girl... isn't that your husband?"That was the day Cecilia totally snapped. Screamed like she belonged in a horror movie.I didn't bother replying—just dropped the phone on the seat and went shopping with Freya. When I got back, she was still yelling.Gotta admit, the girl had stamina. But after that meltdown, maybe realizing she w
