Chapter 1

"Matt, please, I'm begging you, save my mom! She's about to go into labor—she's on Archer Street right now!"

On the other end of the line, my girlfriend Lily Parker sounded frantic, her voice tinged with both panic and desperation.

I lazily agreed, barely disguising my disinterest, then turned around and bought myself an ice cream bar.

In the past, I would have been breaking out in a cold sweat by now, my words tumbling over themselves as I reassured her over and over, "Don't worry, I'll handle it."

But this time was different. This time, I had been reborn.

In my previous life, Lily had used the exact same words, telling me her mother, an older woman with a risky pregnancy, was about to give birth.

I had jumped into my Ferrari, pushing it to its limits, speeding down the street like a man possessed. Twelve red lights—each one I tore through without a second thought. Even the wailing sirens of the police behind me couldn't catch up with my determination.

All I wanted was to get her mother to the hospital, no matter the cost. Even when the blood from her labor stained the back seat of my precious car, I didn't care.

But when we arrived at the hospital, the doctor delivered the news: her mother had suffered a miscarriage.

And then, the nightmare began.

In the hospital room, she screamed at me, calling me a murderer. Lily, upon hearing the news, lashed out at me with all the fury she could muster.

That same night, she brought her entire extended family—every shameless relative from her village—and they took over my family's mansion. My parents were so enraged they ended up in the hospital. My company went under soon after.

And me? They beat me until my legs were shattered.

I instinctively glanced down at my legs now, running my hand over them as if to check.

They were fine. Not broken. Not yet.

I was alive again, and this time, things would not go the same way.

After finishing the ice cream, I got into my Ferrari and drove leisurely to Archer Street.

Up ahead, a small crowd had gathered.

I parked the car, got out, and jogged over to where Lily's mother stood, clutching her belly. Her face was pale, and she looked every bit like a woman about to give birth.

"Oh, Madeline, are you okay?" I asked, feigning concern as I crouched down beside her.

"Oh, Matt, why are you here? I'm sorry to trouble you like this," she groaned, holding her belly as if the weight of the world rested on her shoulders.

"It's no trouble at all. Let's get you in the car and head to the hospital," I said with practiced ease, just as I had in my previous life.

I helped her into the car, the movements so familiar it felt like muscle memory. Her weight pressed down heavily on my arms, but I managed to get her settled in the back seat.

The onlookers murmured words of praise, calling me a "good son-in-law," and a "great guy."

Great guy, I thought bitterly. If great guys were rewarded, why did my last life end in utter ruin?

I swallowed my anger and started the engine.

Madeline reclined in the back seat, groaning as though in excruciating pain. "Ah! It hurts so much… Matt, thank you. Thank you so much."

I kept my expression neutral but forced a smile. "Madeline, what are you saying? I'm going to be your son-in-law soon. We're family."

"Oh, Matt, Lily is so lucky to have you!"

I chuckled lightly, responding in kind. But before long, a strange odor began to waft through the car.

It was pungent, a mix of foulness and decay that made my stomach churn.

The cramped space amplified the stench, its sour and acrid notes pressing in from all sides.

This didn't smell like amniotic fluid.

It smelled like… something else.

Lily shut down her live stream. In my own stream, the viewers began piecing it all together. The realization spread like ripples on water—this had all been a ruse. A grand, elaborate scam. Not long after, the police arrested Lily. She and her accomplices were charged with fraud and promptly taken to jail. Before the authorities arrived, however, her shameless and impoverished relatives turned on her. Armed with tools, they descended on her like a swarm, their shouts rising in a chaotic crescendo."You promised us mansions and riches! Lily, how dare you fool us!""Beat this wench to death!"Even her mother wasn't spared. Trembling in the corner, Madeline caught their attention, and soon the blows were directed at both women. Fists and kicks rained down without mercy. Rumor had it that Lily's leg was broken during the assault. When she begged for my forgiveness, I looked at my own legs, and the faintest smile curled my lips. Karma, I thought. The incident dominated the headlines

"Do you have any proof that I ordered my bodyguards to beat you?" I asked.Lily, as if she had anticipated this question, rolled up her sleeves. Dark, angry scars snaked along her arms—stark evidence that stole the breath from everyone watching the live stream."This is the proof!" she shouted, her voice trembling with emotion. "These scars are proof of what you've done!"The audience in the live stream collectively gasped. The sight was ghastly, her injuries eliciting a visceral reaction. I scoffed, the faintest curl of disdain touching my lips. Lily had gone to such lengths to fabricate her innocence that I couldn't help but marvel at her audacity. For a moment, I remained silent, my brows furrowed in deliberate contemplation. She took my silence as a sign of helplessness and seized the opportunity to launch into another theatrical lament. Her tears fell like a tragic heroine wronged by fate, painting me as nothing less than a tyrant wielding absolute power."Ah, Lily," I fina

"I'll respond again," I continued. "When Madeline arrived at the hospital, I didn't lay a finger on her—not once—until she was taken into the emergency room. There's video evidence to prove it."Brian promptly played the video.Lily seized the opening. "In the elevator, where there were no cameras, you killed my mom's baby with your own hands!" She paused, then added with venom, "And there's a doctor who can testify to it!""A doctor? Are you referring to Dr. Harley Winston?"The camera shifted, and my livestream cut to a view of Dr. Winston, the very surgeon who had operated on Madeline. I pointed my phone at his face, the lens closing in mercilessly. With a faint smile, I asked, "Dr. Winston, do you know how Madeline had a miscarriage?"Dr. Winston's hands trembled slightly, though his face maintained a veneer of righteous indignation. "It was all under Lily's instructions. The truth is, Madeline never had a miscarriage at all—it was a fabrication, a lie concocted by the mot

She was already naturally captivating, her delicate features enough to draw anyone in. Now, with every tear she shed, every quiver of her voice, she pulled at the heartstrings of her audience with calculated precision."He did this," she said, voice trembling, "but I can't say his name. How could we ever fight against the power of capital? After my mom lost her baby, she's been bedridden. She's tried ending her life, again and again—all because of him. If it weren't for him, how could we have ended up like this?"The camera shifted to show her mother lying in a hospital bed, her lips pale as death. She cried, murmuring repeatedly that she didn't want to live anymore. The scene was devastating, heart-wrenching in its presentation, yet the omission of my name only served to stoke the curiosity and fury of her audience. Her livestream's followers multiplied each day as public outrage brewed. Today, the viewership had surged past 200,000, a milestone that marked her success in manipulat

In the span of five seconds, my house descended into utter chaos. Shards of broken vases, torn paper, and fruit peels piled up in corners. Some even spat repeatedly on the floor, leaving glistening stains of disdain.Perfect. This was exactly the effect I wanted.I cast a brief glance at the security camera in the corner, a faint smile curving my lips. Sliding my hand casually into my pocket, my fingers brushed against the control device. A slight press of the button, and the feed went dead.I turned to Lily, my expression calm and untroubled. "Now, it's my turn."Her brows knitted tightly. "What are you playing at?"Before her words fully settled in the room, I snapped my fingers. In an instant, the doors burst open, and a swarm of bodyguards and police officers poured in.Guns were raised; orders barked. One by one, the intruders were subdued, their protests dissolving into silence under the force of authority."Don't move! You're trespassing on private property. You are all u

Once inside, they began surveying the house, their eyes glinting with a mix of greed and envy. Some reached out to touch the vases, while others grabbed teapots and helped themselves to a drink. It was an outrageous display of audacity, as if they had rehearsed the art of shamelessness to perfection. My parents watched them coldly, saying nothing.Lily walked in with her arms crossed, her gaze sweeping the room before settling into a single-seater sofa."Matt," she said, her voice dripping with mock sorrow, "I never wanted your money in the first place. But you pushed my mother, causing her miscarriage. If not for that, do you think I'd be forced to such extremes today?"She dabbed at the corners of her eyes in a deliberate display of anguish. The performance, as crude as it was, succeeded in riling up her ragtag entourage. The man who had been inspecting a vase moments earlier now hurled it to the floor. It shattered, scattering shards across the room."That vase is a family he
