Slowly opening my eyes, I was blinded by a haze of white light. I blinked several times, attempting to discern my location. With the haze slowly clearing, I understood I was in a hospital room. The antiseptic smell filled my nostrils, and the constant beep of machines enveloped me. The white walls felt cold and foreign, and the panic rising up my chest intensified. What had happened? Why was I here? My head ached, the dull pain crawling through my brain, and my memory was in shambles.I struggled to sit up, but when I moved, a searing pain ripped through my body. I gasped, gritting my teeth as I fell back onto the pillows. My breath came faster, panic threatening to overwhelm me."Bella, you're awake."The gentle, relieved tone caught my attention. I slowly turned my head, my vision clearing enough to observe Dr. Evelyn, the pack doctor, standing beside my bed. Her normally poised expression was being replaced by an expression of real concern, her shoulders being slightly slumped as if sh

"I want her killed and her offenses publicly announced."The tension in the room became palpable. All the members stared at Rick in fear, not making a move. Even I felt a shiver course through my body. His presence was oppressive, a grim reminder of the sheer might of an authentic Alpha. Layla, however, seemed to have just seen a specter. She stumbled and then burst into tears. "You're going to kill me for a dubious tape? After all I've done? After winning all the wars? And my brother—he died to save your life! How can you do this to me? How can you be so cruel? Her desperation was nearly believable. I even felt a weak sense of pity as she broke down. Rick's face, though, did not falter. His eyes were as unyielding as metal."Our past doesn't excuse you," he said casually. Layla emitted a pitiful wail, sympathetic nods from some of the council members. To them, she would have appeared the tragic, wronged hero, and I the plotting witch to get their Alpha to kill her. Noel rose, his expre

Gamma Teddy went into play, and a string of dialogues crackled from the speakers."Alpha, I want to thank you for standing with us to take out the Luna," a female voice spoke.A male voice, deeper and more commanding, replied, "We have the same objective—to take out both the Luna Queen and the Rogue Queen out of our way. But no matter what happens, my name cannot be spoken.""Yes, Alpha," two feminine voices replied at the same time. One of the women went on, her voice filled with desperation. "But Alpha, we must keep a low profile for now. Alpha Rick is getting close to realizing that we ignited that fire! Do you know how much danger I was in?"Someone in the room gasped as a realization dawned. "Wait, that voice… It's Layla!"The recording continued playing. A man's voice, the same authoritative voice, uttered once more."We have to decide on what to do next. If the building of the sports complex starts, we have to destroy it. Georgina, do you still have a connection with your ex-boyfriend

I spun around to witness Layla standing tall, her face set in a stern, self-righteous expression. To everyone else, she could appear to be a standard of justice. But to me, she was merely an impostor.Gamma Teddy entered the room, with a maid bringing in a neatly wrapped box in tow. He halted in front of me and gave a slight inclination of his head."Luna Bella, someone left this for you a little while ago. Said it was a gift.""A gift?" I whispered, my brow furrowed as I took the box. The wrapping was immaculate, nearly too neat, as if the person who had sent it had gone out of their way—or was concealing something behind its shiny face.I opened the little card stuck to it and read the note out loud:"Little surprise for my new sister. I took this from Atom and thought you would require it more than we do. You're welcome. – Lilet"Rick snatched the card out of my grasp, his eyes black."Who sent this? Where are they?" he snapped."I don't know. They probably already left." The maid was shak

"'Father is waiting to meet you," Lilet said.I tensed. What? My head spun as I gazed at her in shock. The rogue leader wants to meet me?"Why?" I demanded, my tone laced with amazement.Lilet was about to respond, but.BANG!A shot cracked out, splitting the air like a knife. Lilet gasped, stumbling backward as red spread across her arm."Lilet!"I rushed after her, but Beta Cedric and Beta Atom were quicker. With no time to think, they overpowered her and hurried toward the back door, disappearing into the darkness.By the time I spun around, there was an earsplitting CRASH behind me. Glass shattered. I drew a sharp breath, staggering back and tumbling out of my chair as a contingent of soldiers burst in, guns held high. And leading them—Teddy."Bring her in!" Teddy shouted to the soldiers. His voice was crisp and authoritative. "She can't have gotten very far. Search the entire city and bring her to me!"The soldiers dispersed, their heels crashing on the floor as they ran out after her. My

Chapter 26: Getting to Know the Cruel LeaderFollowing the touching moment that Theo and I shared in the forest, he merely whispered that he loved Mira. As nightfall progressed, we fled back to the pack house, our hearts still racing from what we had just experienced. As we arrived, I edged my way to Rick and delivered a gentle goodnight kiss to his lips. He kissed me back with hot fire, turning me around and pinning me against the dining room table. His kisses grew more passionate, consuming me with a heat that left me panting. I circled his neck with my arms, my leg running up and down his leg, feeling the warmth of his need against me.We never did get back to the room.Right there, on the dining table, he ripped off my underwear and pushed into me, hard and deep, without warning. A gasp escaped my lips at the brusqueness, but I indulged in the wild passion that overcame us. He raised my legs, pounding into me with relentless fervor. His deep, husky voice echoed in my ears."I love

Rick came into the children's room with me, his quiet presence a soothing warmth as he sat down beside me and our children. His deep, slow voice had a relaxed ease to it as he told us, "I asked Lily to bring up some food."Before long, the room was filled with a warm, soothing scent as Lily came through with a tray full of steaming bowls of crab and corn soup, a crisp garden salad, slices of tender beef, and cold fruit juice for the kids. There was a rich bottle of wine to go along with the meal for Rick and me.We sat together, dining as a family, laughter and chatter abounding in the air. The kids slurped their soup with an excited thirst, small giggles breaking through bites, and Rick and I exchanged quiet smiles beyond the edge of our glasses. For a moment, everything was perfect—like a dream I didn't want to end. After dinner, Rick lay on the living room floor, releasing a contented sigh before leaning over to grab a stack of bright plastic bricks. Our two sons, Edsel and Gian, i

Bella's POVFor the next few days, Cole lay unconscious in the Blood Stone Pack hospital. His wounds were bad, and the doctors told us he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. As for who actually started the fire, we were stumped. The security cameras didn't show anything helpful.Georgina was in the hospital room, looking after Cole, but we did not speak with her. We simply ignored her. After making sure that Cole was under the very best care, we decided to go back home.I felt a pang of dismay as I reflected on the news. I had not anticipated Layla to be so deeply connected to Rick. It made sense of her brashness, her courage in standing up to me. Rick had urged me to give her a chance."Her brother died defending me," he had said, his thumb caressing the tip of my cheek. "That's why she's so important to the River Bed Pack.I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Rick had sworn to love and protect me, and now he was suggesting I give Layla a chance."What if she was behind the fire?" I rais

Rick's POV"Alpha, can I speak with you in private?" Layla suddenly exclaimed, her voice shaking a little bit.I crossed my arms over my chest, my jaw clenching. "Whatever is on your mind, my Luna has the right to know," I responded firmly.Layla hesitated, her hands wringing together. "I swear, this isn't true. I didn't meet with the rogues. I would never betray the pack, never betray you!" Her voice broke as she took a step closer, but I didn't allow her to get that close.I growled, my patience thinning. "Why were you meeting with the rogues? Why did you give my Luna to them? This is fucking betrayal!"Layla shifted on her heels, her confidence unravelling."Alpha, you are the most important being to me. My pack has never betrayed you—don't forget it," she begged, urgency creeping into her words.I wasn't having it."Then explain this fire," I growled, my tone icy and unforgiving. "Did you light it?"Layla winced but recovered in an instant. "I'll tell you anything, but the Luna m

  • Twice Fated   Chapter 22: A Battle Unseen

A group of soldiers emerged from the burning building, their faces streaked with soot and exhaustion. They carried an unconscious man between them, his body limp and covered in grime. My breath hitched the moment I recognized him.Cole.His clothes were scorched and tattered, his once-powerful frame slack with weakness. Soot clung to his skin, and for the first time, I saw him not as the untouchable Alpha, but as a man—battered, vulnerable, broken. My heart twisted painfully in my chest as I stepped forward to check on him.One of the soldiers, a sturdy-looking man with a streak of blood on his cheek, noticed my concern and offered a reassuring nod. “No need to worry, Luna Bella,” he said. “We got to him in time. He’ll make it.”I swallowed hard, forcing a weak smile. “Thank you.”Relief should have flooded me, but instead, confusion tangled in my thoughts. Why? Why had Cole risked his life for me? He wasn’t supposed to care—not anymore. That part of us had burned away long ago, just lik
