Chapter Four

Tonight Anthony was dressed in a white polo shirt and a pair of black khakis to match. His hair was tied back into a low bun and his eyes zoomed in on Abby as she approached him.

“You look good,” she complimented, offering a smile. He mirrored her smile and pulled her in for a hug that surprised her.

“You just got out of the shower didn't you,” he said, stifling a laugh as he breathed in her scent.

“What're you doing here?” She asked. “You didn't tell me you were coming over and besides it's going to start raining any moment.”

“I thought I'd take you to a surprise dinner,” he replied, his expression serious but his gaze seductive.

Abby glanced back at the house, hiding a blush. “I can't go out dressed like this. Maybe you could give me a few minutes to change?”

“Dinner's at my place. We could leave now,” he suggested, holding open the door for her.

Her cheeks quickly tainted red.

Meanwhile, Sarah walked out onto the porch dressed in a loose Tee and a pair of shorts. Her expression was disapproving. Abby had always been stubborn, jumping at whoever showed her the least attention.

“Hi Sarah,” Anthony called out, giving a little wave that Sarah didn't bother returning. “She still hates me doesn't she?”

Abby scoffed. “Of course she does. You weren't exactly the nicest guy back in highschool.”

Anthony stifled a laugh and moved aside to let Abby in.

Dressed in just a simple old Tee and butt shorts, Abby sat waiting for him to get in. Her heart was racing, not because she was excited but because it was all happening a little too fast.

One minute she was mad at him and the next minute she was on the way to his house for a surprise dinner.

Anthony's house was a beautiful condo in a much more secluded spot in town. Every once in a while they'd drive past a house.

“Welcome to my humble abode,” he said as they walked in. Nothing about his place seemed humble— from the furnitures to the interior design. It was simply exquisite.

“What'd you do for a living?” She found herself asking.

“I'm an architect. Ever heard of wells and co?” Abby shook her head, surprising Anthony. “You should look it up. It's a little tricky explaining what we do.”

While he disappeared into his room to change, Abby moved around, taking in the beautiful room.

He returned several moments later, dressed in a simple tank top and a pair of dark grey sweatpants. He was breathtaking.

“You're staring,” he said, a faint smirk dancing against his lips. Abby looked away and walked towards the kitchen where dinner had already been set up.

“This is beautiful,” she gushed.

“I'm glad you like it.”

Throughout dinner, they talked over little topics with Anthony revealing only a little about himself but Abby wasn't payingal attention. She was already carried away by everything.

An hour later and they were cuddled on the couch, watching TV. This had to be the best surprise dinner Abby had ever had.

Now she was partly laid out on Anthony's body, halfway. He traced his fingers over her skin, where her shirt had ridden up. She relished the feeling, shutting her eyes whilst bitinf back a moan.

“Let me know when you want to stop,” he whispered. Abby didn't want him to stop, heck, she wanted more.

Within minutes of Anthony skimming his fingers across the right spots, Abby was done playing games. She sat up, straddling him and before she could rethink her decision, she sealed her lips to his.

Anthony quickly responded, devouring her lips, a low groan in his throat. Warmth spread between them.

It had been so long— a decade since they'd kissed and now, it felt even better than either of them could've possibly imagined. Every worry, every trace of anger fizzled off into nothing.

Anthony skillfully moved his lips from her lower lip to her neck, just where she liked. Abby's head titled back as a moan slid through her parted lips.

Her hips moved on their own, rocking against his lower half until she could feel something pressing against her core.

She moved faster and suddenly, the air no longer felt cold. Hunger mixed with lust gleamed in both their eyes.

Anthony fiddled with her shirt, tugging it over her head once he'd felt she was comfortable and began to lick her skin.

She was soft, just the way he liked it.

Creating some space between them, Abby worked her hands on his pants, tugging them off. His bulge pushed through his pants and that was when she realized he had no briefs on.

She felt wet instantly at the sight. He was huge, not painfully huge but just big enough. Mike was nothing close to this.

“Fuck,” he groaned the moment she took all of him in. He was starting to see stars. Abby felt different than Lisa, but in the best way.

She rode him slowly, painfully until he couldn't take it anymore and suddenly, he had flipped her over, ready to take her in from the back when the front door swung open and Lisa appeared, soaked from head to toe.

Before Abby had even sighted Lisa, Anthony — on instinct— had pushed her away. She slammed her side into his coffee table, which thankfully was rounded and not squared.

“What the fuck are you doing!?” Lisa yelled, her eyes heavy with tears. She stared between Anthony and Abby in disbelief.

“This is who you cancelled plans for?!” She continued. “Anthony you left me just because of an argument, so you could sleep with this whore?”

Abby wanted to state otherwise but she let Lisa yell. Even she hadn't expected this. Surely Anthony wouldn't have made a move on her if he was with someone else… right?

A tear rolled down Lisa's face. “It was our anniversary and you ruined it,” she sobbed and that was when it all came crashing down on Abby.

All the dots connected immediately. The surprise dinner wasn't for her but for Lisa.

Chapter Twenty-Two“What're you talking about ma?” “Don't lie to me child. Sarah went up to your room and found a used pregnancy test kit,” Mindy said, her tone warning. “That isn't mine,” Abby replied. Shit, she couldn't believe she'd forgotten to dispose that. She'd been so swamped up in leaving that it had slipped her mind.“So whose is it? A ghost?” Mindy was slowly losing it. She hadn't expected anything like this from Abby.“I don't know ma, ask Sarah,” she countered.“You and I both know the hate relationship your sister has for men, so I'll ask you one more time and you better tell me the truth,” Mindy warned, her voice a little shaky. “Are you pregnant Abby Winston.”Anthony sat, his eyes trained on her. He couldn't hear a single word Mindy was saying but he had a good idea. “I'm not pregnant ma, jeez! Why'd you have to talk to me like I'm some sixteen year old?” Abby snapped. She hated the series of questions her mother was throwing at her.“Don't you raise your voice at

  • Twice the Charm   Chapter Twenty-One

Chapter Twenty-OneThe constant wave of morning sick— coupled with the fact that they were on the run— was really starting to take a toll on Abby. Anthony stirred slowly in the next room, ruffling the sheets as he moved about. As early as sunrise Abby was up, in front of the bathroom mirror— her face covered with a thin layer of sweat. Splashing some water on her face and brushing her teeth, Abby moved to the kitchen. The cabinets were empty, nothing edible in them. “Are you alright?” Startled, she spun around and found Anthony standing, watching her. “You got out of bed early.”“Yeah, I was just….sick, nothing else.” Abby pulled open the fridge. It was empty— dirty and empty. “We're out of food,” she told him. “We're going to need groceries and a couple other things if we're planning on staying here any longer.”As much as Anthony appreciated the idea of having some place to stay, this wasn't the place for him.“We can't stay here,” he replied and Abby frowned. “We're not staying

“Anthony would never hurt anyone— he wouldn't even hurt a fly,” Mrs.Wells argued, growing weary of the conversation. She took her glasses off. “Look, you're looking for the wrong person. There were tons of people at the gala that night. Ask them.”“We've spoken to at least ninety-five percent of the people who were present at the occasion, including the workers and they all gave an alibi. Most importantly, they were all present,” Detective Von said. “But somehow, your son is the only person who vanished into thin air.”Mrs.Wells opened her mouth to defend Anthony but Von cut her off. “Be honest, when was the last time you heard from him?”Something dimmed in her eyes. She was worried —concerned and it was growing. “All I'm asking for is a chance to talk to him,” Von said, latching onto the grief in her eyes. “That's all. I promise but we can't do that if we don't know where he is.”Mrs.Wells exhaled loudly, clearly worn to a frazzle. “Sincerely, I have no idea where Anthony ran off

  • Twice the Charm   Chapter Nineteen

Chapter NineteenThere were no signs of the cops yet or any suspicious looking vehicle but Anthony was still tensed. He glanced over his shoulder and yelled for Abby. “Hurry up! C'mon!” Abby, out of the toilet, dried her wet hands against her pants and hurried towards Anthony. “Did you see anything?” She asked. “No, we've got to start moving.”Abby's eyes shifted to their luggage. On this part of town, cabs weren't exactly a thing. Taking the bus was an option but it wasn't the best. “We need a car Anthony. We can't carry all things by hand down to the bus station,” she said. Shit, she was right. He peeked through the blinds again and spotted a car parked out front the motel. It was empty and there was no one else in the lot. “Gather the suitcases towards the door and hold on, okay?” He didn't wait for Abby to respond, instead, he hurried outside towards the car.Abby frowned, her eyes glued to him. What was he thinking? Anthony checked the front doors— they were both opened. H

  • Twice the Charm   Chapter Eighteen

For the third time that morning, Abby emptied her stomach into the toilet bowl. Exhausted and drained, she collapsed back onto the cool tiled floor, as she evened her breathing. Once she had flushed, brushed her teeth and splashed some water on her face, she strolled back into the hotel room. For the past two days the room had been painfully silent and everytime the sun disappeared behind the night sky, she felt herself missing him.Every attempt to reach out, as usual, had been futile. Anthony never returned any of her calls or texts. Soon anger simmered quickly in her chest. She dialed his number again and to her surprise, the call connected this time. “Anthony…” her voice nearly crackled. She calmed her nerves, maintaining the strength in her voice. “Where are you? I've been calling you for two days!”“I'm at a motel. Is there a problem?” Her brows quickly drew into a frown. “What'd you mean is there a problem?” She couldn't believe her ears. “Where are you? We need to talk.”
