Chapter 1

Penulis: Miles Walker
“Dad, I agree to move to Haven State for the arranged marriage. Let’s do it quickly before I change my mind.”

Her father, Joe Stone, replied instantly. “Good girl, I’ll have it sorted within a month at most!”

Tara Stone quietly wiped away her tears and put down her phone.

An hour earlier, she had been kissed so passionately by Leo that soft moans escaped her lips.

Inside the luxury car, the soundproof partition was raised, ensuring the driver couldn’t hear what was happening in the backseat.

Leo’s lips pressed against Tara’s, prying them open.

Tara loved him deeply, recklessly, to the point of losing herself completely.

They had been together for three years and had tried everything, everywhere. Doing it in the car had become routine.

Leo’s phone rang.

The interruption darkened his expression, but when he glanced at the caller ID, he still answered.

Tara caught a glimpse of the name on the screen. It was a foreign name in Genovian, a rare language that few people in the country understood.

Leo muttered coldly, “Calling at a time like this?”

The person on the other end laughed. “What’s up? Busy with something important?”

Leo gripped Tara’s slender waist, signaling her to stay still. His voice was calm and lazy. “If you already know, get to the point.”

The caller chuckled. “How much does she resemble Nina Lucas?”

Leo casually ran his fingers over Tara’s delicate face. “About seventy percent similar.”

The man laughed and swore. “You’ve got skills. What’s so good about her?”

Leo kissed Tara’s neck, his tone indifferent. “She’s pure, like an obedient little poodle. Her eyes are clear but she is naive.”

The man’s breathing grew heavier.

Leo frowned, annoyed. “Stop being a pervert. If you don’t get to the point, I’m hanging up.”

The man hurriedly said, “Nina’s flight is tomorrow. She’s coming back to restart her career!”

Leo froze, his breathing heavy. “Really?”

“Yeah, she wants to keep it low-key, but I thought I’d give you a heads-up. Nice of me, right? Your first love, your ‘one true love,’ is back. Think you’ll finally ditch the stand-in? What if she won't leave you?”

Leo’s voice turned cold. “There’s no problem money can’t solve.”

With that, he tossed the phone aside and resumed where he had left off.

Tara’s head hung low near the seat, her eyes catching the phone on the floor mat. The call was still connected.

Leo had no idea she understood Genovian.

Her family had business ties in Genovia, and she had spent more than five years learning the language. She was fluent.

Tears streamed down Tara’s face, soaking into her hair.

Three years of heartfelt devotion, and to him, she was nothing more than a dog.

The sunlight was beautiful, as if summer had arrived early.

A luxurious three-story European-style villa basked in the morning light.

Leo descended the staircase slowly, fastening the diamond buttons on his tailored shirt with a casual elegance.

He was the second son of the Carter Corporation, one of the world’s top 100 companies. He managed several entertainment and media subsidiaries for the family business.

His tall, lean figure exuded an effortless detachment, a hallmark of a successful man with a naturally cold and lazy demeanor.

Three years ago, Tara had been a college freshman. The first time she saw him, she was instantly captivated.

He had noticed her too, his eyes lighting up as he began pursuing her. She resisted for three months before finally giving in.

Since then, her world had revolved around him—her thoughts, her heart, her everything.

But now…

Tara turned her head indifferently.

Leo didn’t notice anything unusual. He cupped her face and gave her a firm kiss. “I’m heading to the office for a meeting. Be good and wait at home. I’ll bring back some desserts for you.”

With that, he turned and left.

His tall figure seemed to carry a hint of urgency as he walked away.

Tara let out a bitter smile and started sorting through her belongings.

First, she gathered all the couple-themed items—matching mugs, toothbrush holders, keychains, scarves, T-shirts, plush toys—anything that symbolized their relationship. One by one, she tossed them into the trash.

Though scattered throughout the villa, there was more than she had realized. Cleaning it all left her drenched in sweat.

After dumping a box full of items, she returned to the living room just as the TV was broadcasting a news segment about international superstar Nina’s return to the country.

The airport lobby was packed with fans, their screams and shouts echoing non-stop.

Nina, with her voluminous wavy hair, tall and striking figure, and flawless features, smiled and waved at the cameras, setting off another round of excited cheers.

As the camera panned, Tara caught sight of a familiar figure in the corner of the airport lobby.

*Beep, beep, beep.*

The sound of notifications came from the computer.

Leo never had the habit of logging out, and his messaging app was still open. Curious, Tara walked over and clicked on the screen.

She finally realized that she had been blacklisted. But by whom? Desperate for answers, she stopped Leo’s car in its tracks and pleaded, “Leo, I’ve already paid my dues to the law. Please, let me go. I’m begging you!” Leo stared at her coldly and replied, “The entertainment industry blacklist? That’s on me. But if you’re blacklisted abroad, that’s beyond my reach.” Leo sped off, leaving Nina behind in a cloud of dust. She crumpled to the ground, her face a mix of resentment, frustration, and confusion. Who had she offended with such immense power? With no other options, Nina turned to social media, relying on borderline content and livestream sales to make a living. But her efforts were constantly thwarted by frequent reports and recurring product issues. Unwilling to accept an ordinary life, she eventually resorted to working as an escort, desperate to maintain ties to the elite circles. Leo, however, had no interest in her fate. He had found comfort in a

Jack returned to the church.Leo didn’t leave. He leaned against the low stone wall, lighting a cigarette. As the guests began to leave the church and head to the estate for the reception, Hunter and Tara emerged, hand in hand, their fingers interlocked. Tara felt the warmth and strength in his grasp, which settled her nerves. It seemed he wasn’t upset by Leo’s earlier appearance. Seeing them together, Leo extinguished his cigarette and quickly approached. “Tara!” The bodyguards stopped him in his tracks. Tara noticed his bruised face and the blood on his lip. Her heart remained calm, her gaze indifferent. Hunter’s voice was steady. “Mr. Carter, please refrain from harassing my wife.” The word *wife* struck Leo like a dagger, piercing deep into his heart. A cold glint flashed in Leo’s eyes as he growled, “If you ever mistreat her or make her suffer, I’ll take her back.” Hunter let out a derisive laugh. “That won’t happen.” Leo smirked with equal disdain.

Leo couldn’t hear the murmurs around him or feel the countless eyes on him. All he saw was her—the woman in the stunning, elegant wedding gown. When she turned, her expression startled, it was like a bolt of lightning struck him. It was Tara. It was really her. “Tara!” he shouted, surging forward, his hand outstretched to grab her arm. Joe quickly stepped in, tears of both sorrow and protectiveness in his eyes as he shielded his daughter. “Stop!” Security immediately moved in, burly and efficient, pinning Leo down without hesitation. Every head turned toward the commotion, faces filled with shock, curiosity, and disdain. Leo struggled against the guards, his normally composed gaze now filled with desperation as he locked eyes with Tara. “Tara! Don’t marry him. Forgive me—please!” Tara’s initial shock faded quickly, her demeanor turning calm and composed. “Mr. Carter,” she said coolly. “We’ve already broken up and that was your decision. Please respec

Tara’s gaze was clear and bright, carrying a faint trace of melancholy.Facing such eyes, Hunter couldn’t bring himself to lie. He spoke truthfully, “While this is a business arrangement between our families, I also wanted to marry someone I truly admire and respect.”Tara raised an eyebrow. “So, you investigated me?”Hunter’s sapphire eyes sparkled like gemstones. “Yes, and I’m very satisfied in every aspect.”Tara felt a surge of heat rise to her cheeks. The way he emphasized every aspect felt layered with meaning, instantly reminding her of that night in the nightclub. Her face turned the color of a ripe tomato.Hunter’s grin deepened, the curve of his lips impossible to suppress. “I personally selected some jewelry for you. It’ll arrive tomorrow. The wedding gown was designed by the most renowned designer in Birkham, tailored just for you. Tara was the heiress to the Keystone Group. After two days of rest at her family estate, she had fully regained her energy. She spent the morning galloping across the sprawling fields on her favorite horse, feeling refreshed and reinvigorated. On a small hill, she pulled the reins, halting her horse. Looking up at the open sky, she shouted, “Alright, I’m ready now!“Bring on whatever challenges lie ahead!” Despite her bold words, nervous anticipation churned inside her. For days, she hadn’t dared to look up any details about her fiancé—not his appearance, nor his background. But now, she steeled herself, ready to face the unknown. Taking a deep breath, she pulled out her phone, determined to search for information about him. Just as she opened her browser, her phone rang. She answered through her Bluetooth headset. Joe’s voice came through, warm and familiar. “Tara, come back. Your brother’s home.” It had been over six months since Tara last saw Jack S

Leo took the earliest flight to Birkham. Standing in the bustling airport terminal, he felt utterly lost and uneasy. This wasn’t his turf. He was completely in the dark. Where could he find Tara? Where was she? Although he had already reached out to some contacts for help, there hadn’t been any updates yet. With no other choice, he checked into a hotel. The waiting was unbearable, and he found himself restless. He pulled out his phone and left messages on all of Tara’s social media and online accounts, only to find that everything—shopping apps, reading platforms, everything—had been deactivated. She was erasing herself completely from his world. His chest ached, as though pierced by a thousand needles.Defeated, he walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows and stared at the dazzling lights of the dreamlike Birkham night.
