view moreAiden’s POV My heart was hammering against my ribcage as I walked back into the packhouse. I was holding her as tightly as I possibly could. The fear of losing her was overwhelming and I felt like I only now realized what had happened. Only now when she was back home did I feel my body go numb. Only now did I feel sweat break on the back of my neck. “What happened?” Ian asked as he rushed down the stairs. “Is she okay?” “She is fine, Ian,” Elijah said. “She tried to leave.” Packhouse workers knew better than to be in our way. I saw no one other than Ian and it was better that way. I would lose my shit if anyone said anything or even looked at her the wrong way. “Oh, Hazel,” Ian mumbled as he started following behind us. “How did she leave the room?” “Drainpipe,” Elijah sighed. “Is that right, Hazel?” She didn’t respond. I rubbed her back gently and placed another kiss on her temple. I could feel how scared and confused she was. “Should we move her into another room?” Ian asked.
Elijah’s POVI walked out of my bathroom just as Aiden opened the door and stepped inside my bedroom.“Is this going to be a daily occurrence?” I asked as I started drying my hair with the towel. “Why are you here?”“Because I want to go see her and I knew you would bite my head off if I didn’t invite you too,” Aiden said, sighing and leaning against the wall.I threw the towel to the ground and rushed toward my closet.“Do you think that she is asleep?” I asked as I grabbed a pair of sweats and put them on.“I hope so,” Aiden mumbled. “I don’t know how to apologize for what we did. I don’t know what to say. It’s easier when she is asleep and I can just…”He stopped talking and I heard him take a deep breath. But I knew exactly what he meant. I had no idea how to express what I felt. I had no idea how to tell her that we fucked up. I had no idea how to beg for her forgiveness. It was easier when she was asleep.I walked out of my closet and looked at the door that led to her room.“Co
Hazel’s POVI spent the entire day staring through the window and waiting for the night to fall. No one else came to see me and I was thankful for that. I didn’t want a distraction. I wanted peace and silence so I could focus on my escape. As soon as it started getting dark I stood up and approached the window. I looked down at the small clearing between the packhouse and the edge of the forest. I was afraid that there would be guards walking around, but thankfully, I saw no one.I had to go. I had to leave while I still had the chance.I turned around and rushed toward one of the chairs that were placed around the coffee table. I pulled it toward the bedroom door and jammed the back of the chair under the doorknob. I had to at least slow them down.I rushed back toward the window and looked outside one more time. There were no guards walking around. It was now or never.I opened the window and glanced behind my shoulder. No one was coming. No one was at the door. No one was going to
Aiden’s POV“How is she?” Elijah asked as soon as Katie walked into our office. “Did she eat?”Katie closed her door and nodded.“I left the tray there,” Katie said as she approached Ian. “She will eat.”Elijah clenched his fists and tightened his jaw.“So you didn’t actually see her eat?” he asked angrily. “You should have stayed there until she finished…”“Eli,” I interrupted him. “Katie isn’t her guard.”Elijah looked at me and rolled his eyes. He started pacing around our office. I looked at Kate and took a deep breath.“Is she feeling a bit better?” I asked and Katie gave me a small nod.“She was on her feet when I came into the room,” Katie said. “She looks better than I expected. Ian told me that she wasn’t doing good.”“They spent the night with her,” Ian said, leaning in and kissing Katie’s cheek. “That must have helped her heal.”Katie looked at him wide-eyed. “They did?!”Ian nodded and gave her a small smile. He leaned in and placed a kiss on her lips. I felt jealousy burn
