(STRID POV)
“Mine,” the stranger whispered.
His voice was low, possessive, almost reverent. He took a step toward me, his eyes deepening into a dangerous red—hot, intense, locked on me like I was a prize he’d been searching for forever.
It hit Kendrick like a punch to the gut.
I could feel the way he stiffened beside me. And when I turned to look at him, I saw the truth in his face—pale, tense, disbelieving.
They shared the same look. The same eyes.
The same bond.
I took a shaky step back, stunned. Two brothers? Mated to both of them?
Was the Moon Goddess playing some kind of twisted joke?
Kaiden reached for me, fingers stretching out like he already knew I was his.
Kendrick stepped between us so fast I barely saw the movement.
“Don’t you dare touch her,” he growled, voice laced with warning.
Kaiden’s eyes narrowed, and his smile twisted into something colder. “Move, Kendrick. I have just as much right to her as you do.”
“You’re wrong.” Kendrick’s voice was sharp, dangerous. “You lost any right the moment you walked away. Go back to wherever you came from. Lunaria doesn’t need you.”
Kaiden scoffed. “I’m not here for your welcome. I came to see my mate.”
“She’s mine,” Kendrick snapped. “You have no claim over her. Just like you gave up your claim to this pack when you left.”
“You don’t get to rewrite history,” Kaiden snapped back. “We were crowned Alphas—together.”
“You abdicated the moment you left. I stayed. I fought for Lunaria. You ran.”
Kaiden’s laugh was hollow, biting. “So that’s it? You’ve stripped me of everything while I was gone?”
“I’m not stripping you of anything,” Kendrick said coldly. “You threw it away.”
Kaiden’s voice dropped to a growl. “Step aside. Now. I won’t ask again.”
Instead, Kendrick pushed me behind him, shielding me completely.
“She’s mine. I won’t let you near her.”
Kaiden’s canines flashed. “Then you’ll have to kill me.”
“Oh Trust me that can be arranged” Kendrick humored.
The tension shattered into raw fury.
They lunged.
“No—!” I cried, but they didn’t hear me.
Kaiden struck first, and Kendrick met him head-on. They crashed into each other with a thunderous growl, tumbling into the wall behind them. Glass shattered. Stone cracked.
They didn’t care.
They were shifting—not fully, but enough to become something terrifying. Claws. Teeth. Glowing red eyes and dark fur breaking through skin.
I stood frozen, heart hammering, screaming for them to stop—but nothing got through.
They fought like beasts—half-men, half-wolves—driven by rage and instinct and some twisted sense of possession.
"You can't keep me from her!" Kaiden roared, slamming his fist into Kendrick’s face.
"I’ll do whatever it takes!" Kendrick snarled, retaliating with a vicious blow to Kaiden’s gut.
Furniture shattered. Walls split. Growls echoed through the mansion. I stumbled back as they broke into the next room, destroying everything in their path.
I trembled, helpless. No maids came. No guards. Everyone was gone—or too afraid to step in.
“Stop!” I screamed. “Please! STOP!”
But they didn’t. They couldn’t.
And so I did the only thing I could think of.
I ran to the dining table—where food had been set, untouched. My stomach flipped at the sight of it. Hunger was gone.
I grabbed a knife.
Spinning back toward them, I screamed, “Stop right now—or I’ll hurt myself!”
They kept fighting.
So I did it.
I dragged the blade across my palm.
The pain was sharp. Immediate. Blood welled up, warm and fast.
The scent hit them like a slap.
Both brothers froze. Their glowing eyes snapped to me.
They separated instantly and rushed toward me, panicked.
“Don’t come any closer,” I said, lifting the knife toward my chest. My voice was low but firm. “Or I’ll finish what I started.”
“Astrid—” Kaiden's voice was soft, his features human again.
“Please,” Kendrick begged, hands outstretched. “Give me the knife.”
My voice cracked. “Have you both lost your minds? You're Alphas—what will your people say when they find out you were fighting like animals... over me?”
Silence.
They stared at me like I’d stunned them. Maybe I had.
I glared at them both, fury burning hot in my veins.
Kendrick moved toward me. “You’re right. I’m sorry. Please... the knife.”
Kaiden reached forward, his voice gentle. “Let me take care of your wound.”
I backed away. Threw the knife to the ground.
“I don’t need either of you,” I said, shaking. “Not right now.”
I turned and stormed up the stairs. I didn’t care where I was going—I just needed to get away.
When they tried to follow, I spun around and pinned them both with a look that left no room for argument.
“Don’t you dare come after me. I want to be alone.”
The door slammed behind me.
---
Downstairs, silence stretched between the brothers.
Kendrick turned to Kaiden, face dark with fury.
“This is all your fault,” he hissed. “You had to come back. You just had to ruin everything.”
Kaiden didn’t flinch. “This is still my home. And whether you like it or not… Astrid is my mate too.”
Kendrick’s jaw tightened, voice low with rage. “I wish you hadn’t returned.”
Kaiden said nothing more.
Kendrick brushed past him and left the room.
(First-Person – Astrid)I stared at my bleeding palm, trying to slow the flow of blood with the hem of the oversized shirt. Some of it had already soaked through the white fabric.I hadn’t thought it through.I’d been so desperate to stop them from fighting that I’d forgotten one important thing—I didn’t have healing abilities. No wolf. No magical quick-fix. Just pain.A knock sounded, soft and hesitant.“Who’s there?” I asked, wiping my hand against the sheet.“It’s me.” Kaiden’s voice came through the door, deep and unmistakably him. “Please… can I come in? I just want to tend to your wound.”I sighed. Might as well. The cut was starting to throb, and I didn’t exactly want to bleed all over Kendrick’s bed.“Come in.”The door opened, and Kaiden stepped inside, carrying a small box. He shut the door gently behind him and walked toward me.Seeing him again, up close, felt like looking at Kendrick through a slightly different lens. The resemblance was uncanny—same high cheekbones, sam

(ASTRID POV)...Consciousness returned slowly, like surfacing from deep water. My eyes fluttered open. Everything was blurry at first, the light too bright, the shapes too sharp. I blinked a few times, trying to steady the world around me.The first thing I saw was the ceiling—white and wide, glimmering with delicate jewels embedded into intricate carvings. It looked almost like stars in the sky.Where… was I?I frowned, my body still heavy with sleep. I tried to sit up, but something held me down.I glanced down—and froze.A strong arm was wrapped firmly around my waist.I slowly turned my head, heart pounding, and the breath caught in my throat. He was there. Right beside me.Asleep.And gods, he was beautiful. Like something pulled out of a forgotten myth. Thick, dark hair tousled over his forehead. Long lashes resting against his cheeks. Lips slightly parted, the rise and fall of his bare chest slow and steady.Shirtless. Very shirtless.I lay there stiffly, unsure if I was dream
(KENDRICK POV)....It was still dark when I returned to Lunaria.I didn’t want attention—not for myself, and definitely not for her. Not yet.So I didn’t bother with the front entrance.Cradling her close, I leapt straight to the terrace outside my room. My landing was silent, easy, and I slipped through the open window like a shadow. She didn’t stir. That worried me more than anything.I laid her down carefully on my bed, brushing her tangled hair from her face. She was too pale. Too still.I hated it.I left the room and headed into the bathroom. My hands shook a little as I filled a bowl with warm water and grabbed a clean cloth. When I returned, she hadn’t moved an inch.I lay beside her, propping myself up on one elbow, and dipped the cloth into the bowl. Slowly, gently, I began to clean the dirt from her skin—her face, her neck, her arms.My jaw tightened as I took in her dress. If you could even call it that.A rough, shapeless grey sack that hung off her body like punishment
I jerked awake, heart pounding. For a second, I just sat there, breath shallow, scanning the shadows of my room.Empty.I ran a hand over my face, trying to shake the heaviness from my chest. Sweat clung to my skin, beading on my bare torso. My long hair clung damply to my forehead, and I flicked it back, muttering a curse.Something had pulled me from sleep. Something more than a dream.I got up and walked to the window. The full moon stared back at me, cold and silver. Mocking. Another night without my mate.Kaiden should’ve been here.My twin brother left Lunaria a year ago and hadn’t returned. Not a single letter. No message. Nothing.I hated thinking about that day—watching him walk away, saying he needed to "find himself," to find his mate. That he wanted more than the kingdom. That he wanted freedom. We were supposed to rule together. The Blackthorn Brothers. Equal Alphas of Lunaria—strongest werewolf kingdom in the realm. We were perfect for it. Born to lead. Raised with purpo
I tore through the forest, blind with fear. My arms pumped furiously at my sides, legs aching as I pushed myself farther from Iron Claw Pack. The night pressed in around me, silver moonlight washing over the trees like a cold, silent witness. The full moon hung low in the sky—mocking me, maybe. Or just watching as I ran for my life.My breath came in harsh, burning pants. Every gulp of air felt like fire dragging down my throat. My lungs protested, my chest tight and raw.I could feel my heart hammering in my chest like it was trying to escape too. My hair whipped behind me, tangling in the wind, sticky strands clinging to my sweaty face.I cast a frantic glance over my shoulder. My emerald eyes scanned the shadows, desperate. I didn’t see them—but I could hear them. The pounding of paws on dirt and leaves. They were gaining on me.The Alpha had sent his lycans after me. To drag me back.A soft whimper escaped my throat as I pushed harder. If I could just make it to the pack’s border,
