Lyra(Mia) POV

Sleep eluded me at night. How could I catch any slumber with my stomach growling in protest?

Damion had kept his word and hadn't invited me for dinner. I had barely been allowed to leave my room… it's a prison… all evening.

This morning I still hadn't heard from him or anyone for that matter. The door was locked from outside and a guard had been stationed to make sure I didn't try anything.

Did I try talking to the guard? Yes.

I had tried every trick in the book to convince him to open the door. But he was as hard as a rock. He barely answered me. I'm sure even if he had the intention to help me, the fear of Alpha Damion's punishment would not let him.

I could barely raise myself from the bed. I was too tired to move myself.

What was the use of getting up? There was no life waiting for me. It's not like I was going to get up and head out to fulfill my Luna duties. I was just an item to be used at will.

A knock on the door startled me.

“Come in.”

The guard peeked into the room. “Alpha Damion says you should get ready. He is coming to get you in thirty minutes.”

As soon as he was done delivering his order, he walked out and shut the door.

I got up and prepared myself for the day. My alpha needed my presence and I needed to look as best as I could. After all, I was only a prisoner in the palace. Outside the palace, I was supposed to look like the belle of the ball.

When I was done freshening up, I took a look at my wardrobe. I hadn't done that since m I arrived. I was expecting to see an array of rodents just squirming around as well as cobwebs.

All that were in the luggage he had allowed the maid to bring up to me were my house clothes. They were not fitting for a Luna like me to be seen wearing in public. It would not only bring mockery to me but also to him.

Was making clothes unavailable for me also his way of punishing me?

I opened the wardrobe. There had to be something that I could wear which was presentable enough to appear in public with the alpha.

As soon as those wooden doors parted, my jaw fell to the floor.

Inside were the most lovely dresses I have ever seen. They were in all colours and designs looking elegant.

“I didn't pack this. Who could have put them here?” I muttered, puzzled. It didn't take long before I got an answer. When I looked closely, there was a written note at the bottom of the wardrobe. It was hard to miss.

“From now on these are your new clothes. you're not permitted to wear anything that isn't in this wardrobe.”

Maybe he didn't forget me after all.

I quickly put on one of the dresses. It was purple embroidered with white and enough to turn heads. It fitted Me perfectly like it was tailored to fit my body. It gave my curves a pronounced shape.

I didn't expect him to put so much effort into making me look beautiful. Pretty was an understatement if you were looking to describe my reflection in the mirror. Gorgeous was more like it.

I gave a quick spin letting the dress move in the breeze and for the first time since I arrived, I smiled.

Another knock on the door signaled that it was time to go.

I took graceful steps to the door.

My mind was racing. This was my first public appearance. There was going to be a lot of tension in the air that's fit sore. Everyone in Damion and his circle has already developed a hate towards me.

Especially his mother. I don't know how I'm going to endure her constant scrutiny and jives.

The guard led me to where Damion was waiting with the rest of his clique. As soon as I started making my way down the steps, his eyes were all over me.

He gave me a slow scan taking in every detail. I almost tripped. Doubt attacked me making me feel like something was wrong about my dressing.

“Hasten your steps young woman. First you show up late and now you're walking like you're on a runaway.”

I almost tripped on the last step but I kept my cool, walking to Damion. He gave me one last look before making his way out.

I had no idea what the occasion was but when we arrived at the town hall, there were a lot of guests. I was nervous because I have never been in the midst of such a crowd before.

I tried to hold Damion's arm but he shook off my hand violently. He barely looked my way. I tried to hold his arm but he kept pushing me away.

My very air irritated him. He would openly push me away.

“You keep pushing away. I thought we were supposed to create a united front for the entire pack to see?” I finally asked him when I had him in a corner.

“Everyone knows you're my wife. You don't have to be so clingy all the time. I need my personal space. Just because we are married doesn't mean that you should buzz around me like a bee.”

That put a stop to my ranting. I decided that since he didn't need my company I would wander around the hall. Maybe I would finally see someone who would want to talk to me.

It was packed with guests. I'm talking about prestigious men who came from all the prestigious walks of life that you could think of.

I was still scanning the room when I bumped into someone.

“I'm so sorry. I wasn't…” the words trailed off as soon as I saw the face of the young beautiful woman I had bumped into.

It was a face that I hadn't expected to see in a long time.

Xander’s POV“I look at all the faces here and all I can see is joy. A few days ago, we had all lost hope but with the coming of our saviour here,” I paused to point to her, “we have been able to achieve the impossible that was needed to restore our name.”They all applauded her and she waved. I could tell that she was getting uncomfortable with the spotlight being on her, so I immediately drew back their attention.“She has been very helpful even when she shouldn't have. Don't worry, you all will have the time to glance at the dresses when the time comes.”They murmured, but I raised my glass and silence reigned. They raised their glasses as well.“Before we begin to dig into this dinner that has been prepared for her, I would love to raise a toast to our knight in shining armour. Cheers!”“Cheers!” they retorted in unison.“Thank you so much. You have a good heart,” my mother-in-law began. “I just wish I could have gotten you as a daughter. You are so special that I would treat you

Lyra(Mia’s) POV The idea of asking me for money was wild. But asking me to steal it? That was insane.“Are you out of your mind?” I snapped. “I can never do such a thing.”Why hadn’t he come clean from the beginning? I came here believing I’d be designing, showcasing my talent. But to him, I was just a pawn in his rigged game. Now he expected me to steal for him—so he could bribe his way to victory.Everything felt twisted. The lights of the competition had dimmed in my eyes. It all felt darker now. Corrupt.A stage meant to spotlight genuine creativity… tainted by greedy men like Xander, who thought money could shortcut talent.“It’s the only way,” he said, like it was obvious. “I wish there was another solution, but there isn’t. It’s just a million dollars. I’m sure he won’t even notice.”I wanted to argue, to scream. But I reminded myself—I wasn’t here to be honest. Not yet.I was here to act.A yes-man. That’s what I had to be. For now.The time for reckoning would come.“Fine,”

Xander’s POVI had given it a lot of thought. It all started the moment Veronica showed up to tell me the dresses were finally ready.I couldn’t have been more elated. I must have torn my jaw with how wide my smile went. This was victory—finally, victory at last.Calling it stunning would be an understatement. There had to be a word to fully encompass the beauty of those pieces. But it still hadn’t been coined.“What is it, Xander?”That question made me sigh. Maybe I’d been too quick to make my decision—to tell her about my little ticket, the card I played every time to ensure a win.She deserves to know, I told myself. After all, she was the one who gave me a chance to compete in the first place.“I bribed one of the judges.”Just one simple sentence. But it carried a mountain’s weight. To anyone else, it might’ve seemed like a minor detail. But if word got out that I had stooped that low, the consequences would be fatal. It might not end with my lifeless body in a wooden box six fe

Lyra(Mia’s)POVAll through my visit, the one person that didn't come into my plan was Xander.I knew how he could be, that's why I cut him off as soon as I walked out of Bloodhound Pack. He was a distraction and my plan left no room for that. For the first three days, he had kept calling but I never picked. It was a huge sacrifice to distance myself when there was nothing more I wanted than to hear his voice and listen to him talking about how he was feeling. He was my mate! As much as I tried to, I couldn't fight away the feelings for him.But it was better to keep up a cold heart when that was all he showed me. Maybe if he had begged me to stay… if he had told me he wanted me close… maybe. But all I got was a cold, hard response.Veronica sat there watching the phone blaze with calls. The caller ID caught her attention almost immediately."Are you planning on talking to him?"Usually I would give her hell for asking too many questions. But I too was wondering the same thing."There

Lyra(Mia’s)POV“Was it only me or did that entire conversation feel fake?” I thought out loud.I knew it was all smiles and goodness but not for a moment did I feel that my sister was being sincere.Call me an overthinker but this was a gut feeling. The only thing I could boast about trusting is my instincts.Well, you knew that already. If you didn't, then you haven't been listening to a word I have said.“I felt the same way as well. There is something about her tone that felt out of place,” Veronica supported with her viewpoint. Her offer of dinner was even more unnerving. If image aimed for me to feel welcome, she had missed the target by a mile.“But look on the bright side. Now we can plant the poison without her knowing,” Veronica continued.“Why do you think she wants to cook for me out of all the things to do?” I asked, unwilling to convince myself that there was nothing more to this.“She wants to show her gratitude, I guess.”“I know my sister. There is no way she is sorry

  • Twin Hearts,Broken Bonds   CHAPTER 65

Xander’s POVI kept my eyes swarming around the room, trying to find the right words to put together the way I feel. The woman I had come to see stood up sharply. “You have no right to barge into my room like that. That door there has a purpose and I expect you to knock!”Her words were like darts, but I was quick enough to avoid getting nabbed.“My apologies. If the matter wasn't so urgent, I wouldn't have come in like that.”She looked over at Veronica on the bed and they expressed knowing glances.“I could have been dressing up for all I know!”I would have loved to see that, but I didn't acknowledge that to her.“I'm so sorry. Please forgive me. But this is urgent. I am here with Nyla and she has something important to share with you.”There was a look of surprise on her face. Her expression was nothing far from mine.I was just as surprised when Nyla had told me she wanted to talk to Mia. According to her, this was an apology.I know what you are thinking. Why would Nyla want to
