Chapter 4

Author: Eastern Dawn
The man slowly took the hammer from the woman and sealed the window shut as my heart pounded…

Was I wrong about them?

Had they already figured out that I could see again, so they had sealed the window to keep me from escaping? Was this their plan to kill me?

I was shaking all over as the man came up to me with a grin and tossed the hammer on the floor.

He cupped my face with those hands that he probably hadn't washed for a long time and said, "Good girl. I really hope you'll get your sight back soon. If you ever do, you have to tell me right away."

His smile made the wrinkles on his face even more apparent, his greasy hair covering half his face, and there was something obviously off about him.

My heart was racing, but I pretended to be a good girl and nodded. "Okay!"

At the very least, it seemed like they didn't suspect I could see, which meant they hadn't checked the security camera.

Or maybe… they just hadn't had the time to watch it yet.

They left and closed the door behind them, but I was genuinely scared now.

Were they just pretending? I looked at the old, battered phone by my bed and tried to remember. The phone… I actually recognized it, but it wasn't mine. It was my best friend's.

I had used her phone before, and she had handed it to me…

She had been wearing a platinum ring!

And tonight, there had been a finger with a platinum ring in my food…

Shock, pain, despair, horror… All sorts of feelings exploded in my head.

Without thinking, I glanced at the door. There was a window in it… and a pair of eyes was staring straight at me!

I could feel the hair on my arms standing on end. I acted like I hadn't seen anything, felt my way to the bed, and lay down with my eyes closed. I tried my best to calm myself down while the man stood by the door, watching to see if I had fallen asleep. At least this meant that they didn't have control over the security camera in my room.

Still, my heart wouldn't stop pounding.

My best friend had already been killed by these two…

And I had found her finger in my dinner!

Pretending to be asleep, I turned away from the door, covering my mouth as I sobbed silently.

Even if I had forgotten a lot about the past, my best friend was the most important person to me. The bond we had built in the past was burned deep into my subconscious.

I didn't sleep at all that night.

The next day, the housekeeper showed up as usual. He didn't do anything and just kept circling around me. I started to think he was here merely to keep an eye on me.

That empty stare of his made my skin crawl.

Plus, who said those two had really gone to work? With how weird they were, what company would hire them?

So, what were they really up to?

Suddenly, I remembered the notes.

Those notes had said not to tell my parents, but what about the housekeeper? Maybe that was a clue, too?

"My eyes still haven't healed after all this time. I feel so awful." I sighed, testing the water.

The housekeeper had been staring blankly at me. When he heard that, he shook his head quickly, "Don't worry. They all… get better eventually. You will too."

"They?" I acted surprised.

He nodded, suddenly cheerful. "The young women who were here before… They couldn't see either, but after a week, their sight came back. You've been here for two weeks now, so yours will come back soon, too."

I swallowed hard. I was horrified, but also even more confused.

Why were there so many young women?

  • Twisted Embrace   Chapter 8

I fought the urge to grab his hands. Instead, I used my right hand to pull the knife from my pocket, slashing hard at the artery on his wrist! My movements were smooth and quick, almost like I had done this before. Reflexes like that made me question who I truly was.He screamed and let go, staring at his wounded hand, but he couldn't stop the bleeding no matter what he did.I wiped the blade clean. As expected of the knife the housekeeper had used for decapitating those young women. It was razor-sharp indeed. The man roared and charged at me again, but I stayed calm this time. I had already cut his artery, so he would bleed out soon. All I had to do was keep away from him so that he couldn't drag me down with him.Rain started pouring as he stumbled around the rooftop like a headless chicken, desperate to find me, but he was only losing blood faster. He quickly collapsed, the rain mixing with his blood until the whole rooftop smelled faintly of blood. Or maybe it was just the s

I… I had killed someone. But all I felt was satisfaction… That was the thrill of revenge.Screams echoed from the courtyard, getting louder and louder. "Suzie! Suzie…!"I forced myself to stand up and pulled off my coat and shoes as they were both covered in blood. If I ran in them, I would be spotted instantly.I climbed out through the window. It was still just as barren outside, and if they looked over, they would spot me right away.A sense of helplessness swept over me.I gritted my teeth, determined to play hide-and-seek with them.I crouched by the wall for a while and saw someone pull back the curtains and poke their head out. Their breathing was loud and heavy, as if they were very angry. After a moment, they went back inside. What I needed to do now was to track their movements without giving away my location.I circled the house and found a ladder out back leading up to the roof. I climbed up.The ladder passed by a window with the curtains drawn. Just as I reached

I turned to the right, and sure enough, there was a building. Just then, two angry shouts came from behind me, from my so-called home. My heart pounded as I hurried and jumped over the wall without care! The courtyard was completely silent. It didn't feel like there were "a lot of people" there. On the ground, I saw a familiar walkie-talkie, but I couldn't remember exactly what it was for.It was covered in mud, and I wasn't sure if it still worked.I picked it up and hid it in my pocket, quietly slipping into the house.Strangely enough, it was completely quiet inside. These two houses were built exactly the same way. I headed to the kitchen, grabbed a sharp knife, cut some wires, and reconnected the broken circuit inside the walkie-talkie. I could get it to work for just a moment.I pressed a few buttons at random, and, incredibly, I heard someone's voice. "Lone Wolf, do you copy? Lone Wolf, respond! I repeat, respond!"I replied calmly, "Who are you?"There was silence on

"Where do you live?" I continued asking. The housekeeper thought for a moment and said, "Just out the door and to the right. There are a lot of people at my place."His house wasn't far from here, but it was unlikely that the housekeeper was anyone worthy of trust. He might be working with those two. But if there were a lot of people, surely not everyone could be like them, right? As long as I could find someone and get my hands on a phone, I could then call the police, and it would all be over!Even if those two weren't truly my parents, the police would have to do something about it because of the murder, right?I wanted to ask more, but then, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed two tightly closed doors.I really wanted to know what was inside, so I started to walk over. However, the housekeeper suddenly gave a wide grin and declared, "Your head is so pretty. I can't wait anymore. I'm going to take you now!"He lunged at me, wrapping his hands around my neck, his slimy tong
