ARCHER
THE QUEEN MOTHER handed Archer some scrolls which he went through.King Anton was the fifth werewolf king and his reign was not the most peaceful one as he had recurring rogue issues throughout. During that time, rogues had not been given a portion of the werewolf land and were rebelling. The rogue Alpha threatened to take what the king held most valuable if he continued resisting their demands. King Anton refused to be swayed by his decision to not give them a part of his kingdom. That decision turned detrimental when his mate, the Queen, was taken by the rogue Alpha. King Anton tried all possible ways to find his mate but could not, as the rogues were in cohorts with the mages which helped keep them hidden.King Anton consulted a witch who told him about an ancient ritual which their ancestors had forgotten about. They called it the sacred binding. It was an ancient way of finding mates when a werewolf neared his prime without finding their mates. The witch handed the ancient directories over to King Anton who used them to find his mate and end the war. Centuries later, the practice was banned and the scrolls were destroyed but nobody knew why.Archer was brought out of his reading by his mother's voice."All books written about the sacred binding were destroyed and the smaller pages in other books were torn out. I believe the son of King Anton kept the last book but it was said that he gave it to his lover, a Wolf of mixed blood."The only clue of her whereabouts is in the castle and is supposedly in the library," Queen Mother Celia explained, staring pointedly at him.Archer let the information sink in till he had only one thought racing through his mind; hope. For the first time in a while, Archer was hopeful. But his hope was short-lived as he realized that he would have to step into the library, a place he vowed he would never step his feet into."When are you going to get over it? I know it is tough but it has been five decades since-""No! Do not speak of that day, Mother. You never bore witness to what I saw." Archer snapped, storming out and slamming the door behind him.He marched to his room, seething with rage. The palace guards and servants scampered out of the way, detecting the fury coming off their king in waves. Before entering his room, Archer called out to a servant."Get me the Butler!" He ordered and entered his room as the servant scrambled off to do the King's bidding.Archer sat on his huge king-sized bed. The vibrant royal red covers contrasted his mood at that moment. He had tried so hard to forget or at least ignore it. He ensured that it was never spoken of and everything linked to it was destroyed just so he could move on. It was working or at least he thought it was. But then his mother had to go right ahead to mention it.Just then, a knock sounded on the door, and Archer grunted a response. The door was pushed open and a man stepped in."Alpha," the man greeted, as he bowed.Archer gestured for him to sit down but he refused, opting to stand, causing Archer to frown."How many times will I have to tell you that you do not have to be so formal with me?"The man chuckled, the small fine lines of wrinkles on his face squeezing together."The Alpha King deserves respect from everyone no matter who.""Not this again, Ben. You have been with my family for centuries and you practically raised me. I find it hurtful that you treat me just like everyone else does. I mean, you are like a second father to me," Archer complained with an annoyed frown."I know and I appreciate the opportunity your family gave to me, but I do not deserve the title of anything close to the royal family, much less the Alpha King's father," Benjamin responded to which Archer shook his head disappointed."Have you spoken to my mother today? I know she tells you everything," Archer said, looking up at the man he considered his father.Benjamin Lincaster was an older Wolf who ran to the royal wolf pack for safety after his pack was attacked. He immediately found favour with King Edward and was assigned as the royal butler. Besides Noriel, he was the only one Archer could talk to."I guess the Queen Mother has already told you about the scrolls," Benjamin stated with his hands folded behind him as usual.Archer sighed, leaning back against the brown mahogany headboard. He could feel a headache forming behind his eyes.He resisted the urge to massage his head because the last thing he wanted was for Benjamin to bring the pack doctor to his room once again. It was bad enough that his people knew he was dying. But if wind got out that the Alpha King was weak, then his enemies would use that against him, and that was something Archer would not stand for."And what do you think of the scrolls?" Archer questioned with clenched fists.Benjamin glanced down at the King's hands before looking back up again. It was times like this that made Archer hate how observant Benjamin was. Thankfully, Benjamin said nothing about his clenched fists."The question, Alpha, is not what I think but what do you think of them? My thoughts on the matter have no weight as long as you have yours," Benjamin answered back.Archer nodded. It was as he expected. Benjamin would never give a direct answer, knowing that his response could easily change Archer's mind."Why now? Why did those scrolls suddenly appear now? My father's things have been in his room for decades but no one has gone through them, not even my mother."So why did she suddenly decide to go through them and find the... so-called scrolls? I…" Archer paused and took a deep breath to calm himself. He continued, "I feel like someone is playing a dirty trick on me and… I do not like it."Benjamin was silent for a few seconds as he studied the Alpha King's expression. After a while he said,"Perhaps it is not the sudden appearance of the scrolls but the location of the remaining pieces that bothers you, Alpha."When Archer did not respond, Benjamin took it as his cue to continue."It has been over five decades, Alpha. Don't you think it is time to face it? No one said it will be easy but if you take it one step at a time, you will find it getting easier with each step."Still, you can only decide for yourself; do you wish to let go of the burden or will you let it continue to weigh you down?"ARCHERSHUTTING HIS EYES, Archer took a deep breath before releasing it and opening his eyes. He then looked at Benjamin."What if I can't?"Fear was not a strange word to Archer and neither was uncertainty. One thing Archer would never admit is the fact he was scared. Not just unsure or worried. He was afraid of the darkness he knew was inside him. The darkness was slowly turning him feral. He did not want to feed it even more and he knew that stepping into that library would be the tip that would push him over the edge.Archer suddenly chuckled but it was without humour."You know, I used to see my father as the strongest Wolf in the land. I thought he was invincible and unable to get hurt."However, seeing him in a lifeless state made me realize that even the strongest of persons can feel fear," he said then paused and took another deep breath before continuing."I can never forget the scared look on his face. It seemed like he knew what was coming but could do nothing about it. Fea
ARCHERFOR A WHILE the room was left in silence as Ryan thought. Having drawn a blank, Ryan immediately shook his head, as Archer held himself back from palming his face."Nothing... nothing at all. He achieved nothing but decreased revenue, increased taxes and an increased rate of emigrated wolves."He even managed to do what no Alpha has ever done; how does someone even lose in a category which never even existed?" Archer asked in obvious disbelief.Ryan looked confused but amused. "What do you mean, Alpha?""He was rated the worst Alpha for thirty years. Thirty fucking years!" Archer exclaimed in awe."No one informed me that there was a category like that in the yearly pack leaders awards," Ryan thought aloud."That's because there was not. It was recently made up by wolves on the Wolfnet. He is the only nominee and the only winner. Even his own Pack wolves voted for him," Archer stated before putting down the file.Ryan was unable to help himself any longer and burst into laughter
ARCHERFOR WHAT SEEMED like an eternity, Archer stood by the double doors covering the entrance of the castle library. He was always taught to recognise danger and how to get away from dangerous situations. But even as he heard all the warning bells in his head go off, he still ventured into the library. After all, it is only by standing at the edge of the cliff that one can get to see the beautiful view from down below. The royal library contained ancient books, handwritten and typed. The shelves were built with strong centuries-old wood that could stand against termites and other natural elements.Even after five decades, it still looked the same but due to it not having been opened after so many years, the smell of old books was thick in the air, as well as the metallic scent of blood. It had been fifty years but the evidence was still there. The moment Archer entered, his eyes were drawn to the desk by the wall but Archer quickly took his eyes off the desk and walked toward the sh
ARCHERFOUR HOURS AND two minutes later, they were landing in an airport in New York City. Commander Samuel led Darius to another car, where they both sat at the back."Where was Elder Shanon last sighted?" Archer asked. "She lives in a small house nearby," Sam responded.Compared to the busy city of New York, Archer's Pack was quieter. Montana was given to the wolves by the government of the United States after the first peace treaty was drafted. The council of supernatural creatures had an agreement with the human leaders; the humans kept to themselves and the creatures would too. No one bothered each other. And besides the leaders, the humans had no idea of the existence of the creatures. It was safer that way as humans feared what they did not understand. Due to fear, the earliest humans tried to wage war against the creatures but were quickly defeated and the survivors agreed to keep the creatures' existence a secret from their offspring. When he was a lot younger, his mothe
ARCHER"I MIGHT NOT be aware of what made you completely lose faith in wolves but give me a chance to let you know that not all wolves are as power-hungry as you think. "I am willing to give everything up as long as I can find the other half of my soul," Archer said as sincerely as he could. Before she could say anything else, Archer added, "I am not asking you to believe in me or trust me, I ask that you give me a chance to prove myself and prove to you that not all wolves are as bad as you think."With that said, Archer stepped back. Without a doubt, finding his mate was the most important thing for him at the moment. No matter what it was, he was willing to give it up for her, as long as it would not hurt someone else. He had done all he could and if it still was not enough to convince the Elder, he should be going back to Montana that night. Somehow, he had already accepted his imminent death because it did not feel as frightening as it used to be. Perhaps dying might not be a
ARCHER HE CLOSED HIS eyes as he thought. He would not be able to take it if the search failed. His wolf barked a warning as its human counterpart no longer paid attention to it. Archer had no other choice but to watch the whole process. On getting Archer's attention, the Wolf concentrated on the mate bond. He focused all his spiritual energy on locating the person on the other side of the bond. Archer could feel his energy draining in huge amounts the more the wolf searched. His wolf gave into exhaustion first and shifted back into the human form. Archer lay naked on the floor, panting and drained. His eyes began to close as his energy seeped away. He was quickly losing consciousness. Archer's eye rolled to the back of his head and he lost consciousness, not before thinking aloud,"Hotel Aqua." *****Archer's green eyes shot open. He was greeted by white ceilings and a very unfamiliar room: a white room. He pulled the comforter off him to see that he was also dressed in formal
ARCHERHIS BREATH HITCHED as she began walking toward him. His eyes travelled from her eyes to her face. His jaw dropped as he took in her face. For a split second, his eyes drifted to her red pouty lips, but he quickly pulled his eyes away as he imagined locking his lips with them. His gaze travelled to her slender neck and forced himself to tear his eyes away. His fangs throbbed at the thought of sinking them into her neck and marking her as his. He cleared his throat and took his gaze back to her face to try and rid himself of sinful thoughts. She was so beautiful, the most beautiful being he had ever laid his eyes on. He was so close to snatching her into his arms and bringing her back with him to his kingdom, where he would keep her away from the eyes of other men forever. He couldn't fathom the thought of another man with his mate. She was his as much as he was hers alone. The mate he had been waiting almost a century for, was right in front of him. She was worth the wait,
CLARISSAIt is said that good things happen when they are least expected, and Clarissa could not believe her luck. Just when she thought she would die as an old lady with four cats, a handsome stranger came and swept her off her feet. His captivating green eyes drew her in and it took everything in her to stop herself from swooning. She did want to give him a chance but her fear of getting hurt overcame that want. She would rather admire him from afar than go close and get hurt in the end. She found it charming how confused and lost for words he was. And the way he stared at her, it was like she was the only woman in the world. His pointed gaze and blatant staring were enough to get her heart racing nervously. "Can you stop acting like a lovesick puppy and focus on your work?!" Stacy snapped, bringing Clarissa out of her daydreaming. "I'm sorry, I was just thinking." Clarissa blushed, mortified by her friend's outburst. Stacy rolled her eyes. "Don't you see it?" "See what?" A
