I almost fainted.

What the hell was wrong with my mother? Why did she think one of my boyfriend’s birthday parties was the place to announce that she was having a baby, with my old babysitter no less!

“Well thank you for that announcement…Mom!” I said through gritted teeth. “Um, why don’t you all…mingle and we’ll get the cake ready!”

I grabbed Mom’s arm and pulled her into the kitchen.

“What is wrong with you?” I demanded.

“What do you mean?”

“Why would you do that? Today is not about you, it’s about Grayson!”

“But I gave him a gift! You could at least say congratulations, you know?” Mom huffed. “You’re getting a new sibling!”

“Yeah, congrats, why did you hijack Grayson’s birthday party? Why would you do that?!”

“I tried to talk to you about it all week!”

“So you should have still waited! Not announce it like that. Mom, how are you so oblivious to everything all the time? How don’t you realize that what you just did was selfish and insane?” I asked. “Do you think of anyone but yours
