Lamaze

Something was off about Skyler.

I mean even more so than usual. She was fidgety and her mind was clearly elsewhere. I think she was muttering to herself.

“Everything okay?” I asked.

“Yeah, of course, why wouldn’t it be?”

“You are like in a whole other world, girl.”

“It’s just…Avery is leaving.”

“Your marriage? It’s hasn't even been that long!”

“No, like the country…for a work trip and…I can’t go, unfortunately and I’m feeling really weird about being left alone.”

“Oh, I get you,” I sighed. “I’m sorry that must suck. How long is he going to be gone?”

“Like two weeks to a month. He’s gonna be all over the place, I think.” Skyler informed me. “I just wish he didn’t have to go.”

“He’ll be back before you know it,” I assured her. “And you and I will hang out while he’s gone. My hours at work have seriously reduced. I might as well be on maternity leave at this point.”
