Chapter 5

Sunday night, I laid in my bed as Beth finished unpacking her things in her room. I had thankfully finished rearranging Sebastian's schedule with the help of Darcy, and made sure they all fit well with each other. All that was on my mind was sleeping, as I knew tomorrow would be yet another busy day.

Before I closed my eyes, my phone vibrated on the bed side table.

"Sebastian?" I said to myself, looking at the screen. My heart leaped in my chest, though I tried my best to contain my odd excitement since it wasn't any use.

"Sorry to bother you so late. Was just wondering if you had finished rearranging the schedule." The text read.

"Yes, I did everything the instructions said, as well as called the-" I shook my head as I deleted the text and started over. I wanted to be forward, yet informative. Ever since our showdown last Monday it has been a little tense around the work place.

"Yes, as well as followed the instructions below."

I cringed. Too...boring? No, too informative. I deleted it and tried again.

"Yes, the schedule is set." I typed. I sent it, waiting anxiously for his response.

Five minutes later, he replied: "Great. Thank you." It read.

Should I reply? No. This is the end of the conversation. Or maybe I could just reply with you're welcome since he knows I read it now?

Get it together! My sub-conscience yelled.

I sighed, deciding to leave the conversation at that. Before I locked my phone, I saw a previous text from almost a month ago when my thumb accidentally slid up:

"Exactly, which is why you should ice skate." The text message read.

"No. I'm not embarrassing myself. Today is all about you." stated my reply.

Sebastian then sent a photo of the infamous "confused black girl meme," with her holding her palm up, wearing an irritated look on her face. I smiled to myself, remembering how hard I laughed when he sent me that.

"You're an idiot, Sebastian."

"A gorgeous one, though." the next text read.

"Goodnight, Sebastian."

I contemplated looking through other messages, wondering if it would be wise to remember those times so greatly. Even though it wasn't a great idea, I proceeded on anyway. I scrolled upwards until I found the conversation between Sebastian and I after the lake incident:

SEBASTIAN: Hey Leslie. How you doin'?

ME: What do you want?

SEBASTIAN: Woah, fiesty!

ME: lol no im not its just youre being random again.

SEBASTIAN: AGAIN? That lake water must have gotten to your head somehow.

LESLIE: thats right, you ass. I dont understand why you thought that was funny

SEBASTIAN: Because it just was. I laughed so hard I cried.

ME: Yeah, I know.

SEBASTIAN: are you mad?

ME: no.

SEBASTIAN: Yeah you are.

ME: What do you expect? I got all wet

SEBASTIAN: There's nothing wrong with getting wet.

ME: OMG stop

SEBASTIAN: What?

SEBASTIAN: ...Ooooh hahaha!

SEBASTIAN: You're the one with a dirty mind

ME: stop lying you know what you meant.

SEBASTIAN: nooooooo you thought about it that way not me. I am pure.

ME: if you're pure why are we here?

SEBASTIAN: .....

ME: Lmao!!

SEBASTIAN: Leslie are you sleep

ME: No why?

SEBASTIAN: Are you alone?

ME: lol wow stop playing

SEBASTIAN: What are you wearing? ;)

ME: Khaki's

SEBASTIAN: :/ Khaki's?

SEBASTIAN: ...Wow ctfu!

ME: XD

The next morning, I met with Darcy as usual in the elevator lobby. With Sebastian's schedule in hand, we were both ready to start the day off, hopefully with no problems.

"I swear that schedule was hell to go over. I need to get off on sales and make sure the meeting with Sebastian and Donovan is still going on next week, right?"

I nodded "That would really be helpful. Just text me what he says."

The doors opened for the fifth floor "Alrighty." Darcy said, before exiting.

When I made it to the top floor, I was welcomed to unpleasant screaming.

"Who the fuck signed this without telling me?!" Sebastian's voice echoed.

Shit.

I inched closer to the hallway to get a better listen.

"Well, all Mr. Dravis needed was a representative signature in order for her to transfer." Lucinda said.

"Bullshit. Henry you know you were supposed to go over this with me before you just give Sarah the damn paper."

"I'm sorry, Mr. Harrison, but you were busy and I figured it would be fine-"

"Who...signed the paper?" Sebastian asked.

The sound of Lucinda ruffling through her papers attached to her clip board substituted the yelling.

"It...it..."

"Who?" Sebastian asked again.

That was it. I didn't want to stay for the aftermath. I walked carefully towards the elevator as quietly as I could, praying I would make it before Lucinda said my name.

"Um, maybe I should-"

"Who, signed the damn document?" He asked again more assertively.

I quickened my pace, making it to the elevator and pressing for the lower floors, any at this point. Maybe I would hide out in Finance with Beth.

"...Leslie. Leslie King signed the transfer document." Lucinda mumbled.

Silence.

"...Where is she?" Sebastian questioned.

I pressed the button repeatedly, so fast my thumb was hurting.

"8th floor...9th floor..."

"C'mon, c'mon!" I whispered.

Finally, the doors opened, bringing along a hallelujah church choir along with it. I darted inside as fast as I could and pressed for the 6th floor. I sighed in relief. Even though I would have to deal with Sebastian later, I knew that dealing with him now wouldn't be good for anyone.

Suddenly, right before the doors touched to a closed, a masculine hand intercepted the two, causing them to part and reveal an angry Sebastian standing in front of me. He entered the elevator and pressed all of the buttons in order, watching them light up. I cursed under my breath, wanting to jump out now but realizing my plan was forfeit when the doors closed, leaving us both alone.

"Nice try." Sebastian said, his arms across his chest.
