AURORA

“So, the plan is to make them go bankrupt, right?” Dora asked, a mischievous smile spreading across her lips as she plopped down on the bed.

I nodded, unable to hide my own smile. “I am going to warm up to him on social media as Thelma Wells. Once I gain his trust, I will advise him to take whatever business advice Spencer gives him.”

Dora grinned from ear to ear, threw herself backward onto the bed and burst into a loud, almost witch-like laugh.

AURORA“So, the plan is to make them go bankrupt, right?” Dora asked, a mischievous smile spreading across her lips as she plopped down on the bed.I nodded, unable to hide my own smile. “I am going to warm up to him on social media as Thelma Wells. Once I gain his trust, I will advise him to take whatever business advice Spencer gives him.”Dora grinned from ear to ear, threw herself backward onto the bed and burst into a loud, almost witch-like laugh.“You have no idea how much I have dreamed of this day,” she said between laughs. “The day Jasper and Ethan finally face the karma they deserve for what they did to you.”Going after Jasper had never been part of my plan. I had been more than willing to leave the past where it belonged. But after what they had done to Dora… hell, I was pissed. They crossed a line.“And speaking of you,” I said, turning the conversation back to her, “I already spoke to Jonah. He found you a position as an assistant head chef.”Dora immediately sat uprigh

AURORAEventually, we made it to the apartment. And let me tell you, nothing about this place screamed budget.Absolutely nothing. The moment I stepped inside, I knew there was no way this apartment belonged anywhere near my price range. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered an insane view of Manhattan. The apartment itself was spacious, bright, and beautifully decorated. Everything looked expensive, from the furniture to the light fixtures and even the little decorations placed carefully around the rooms. And did I mention it came fully furnished? Not with cheap furniture, either.Everything looked like it had been picked from some ridiculously expensive showroom. You get my point now, right? There was no way I could afford this place.“Do you like the place?” Spencer asked.I turned around to find him watching me as I walked out of one of the bedrooms.Oh, and did I mention it was a two-bedroom apartment?“The place is lovely.”My eyes wandered around the living room again before set

AURORAThe flowers came again. This time, however, they came with a social media handle written beneath the message, along with a shameless invitation for me to reach out if I was curious about the identity of the person sending them. Apparently, if we clicked, he would be kind enough to give me his number. The shameless audacity. My phone vibrated against the surface of my desk, pulling my attention away from the documents Spencer passed down to me to read. Spencer looked up from the file in his hands, his eyes briefly flicking toward my phone before returning to the document.I swiped across the screen and placed the phone against my ear. “Did you find the place?”I had tasked Jonah with helping me find an apartment within my budget, and so far, he had found absolutely nothing.Honestly, I didn’t believe it was because there weren’t apartments within my price range. I suspected it had more to do with the fact that Jonah was being ridiculously picky about everything the realtors sho

AURORA We returned to the venue after a while, but neither of us made any effort to mingle with the other guests. It almost felt as though Spencer had made up his mind not to leave me alone. He stayed beside me the entire time, occasionally making small comments about the people around us or asking if I needed anything. “Mr. Spencer?” A familiar voice called from behind us.Spencer and I turned at the same time.Ethan stood there in a cream tuxedo jacket, a black tie, and perfectly tailored black trousers. Beside him stood Jasper, dressed in a three-piece black suit.Ethan’s gaze moved between Spencer and me.“You two know each other?” he asked.I shook my head and immediately took a small step away from Spencer. “Not everyone standing beside each other in this room knows each other,” I said dryly.Spencer raised an eyebrow but said nothing. His attention shifted to Ethan and then to Jasper.“And you two?” he asked. “Are you that close? First, JW Cosmetics recommends you for a job,

AURORA Stepping into the hall for the summit, I immediately spotted Jonas moving through the crowd. He was already doing what he did best, introducing himself, shaking hands, and talking about what I assumed was the new venture our father wanted to pursue.I stayed a few steps away and watched him.Jonas had always been good at this sort of thing. He knew how to smile at the right moment, how to make people feel important, and how to keep a conversation going without saying too much. I paid attention to the little things, the way he held eye contact, the questions he asked, even the way he smoothly moved from one person to another.I stored away whatever I could learn.I might need it someday. As Jonas continued networking, my eyes wandered across the crowded hall. Then I saw him.Spencer.I had been looking for him since I walked through those doors.I excused myself from the small group around me, picked up a glass of champagne from a passing waiter, and headed toward him.Spencer

AURORA“What are you doing here?” I hissed, making no effort to hide the hostility in my voice. If I hated him for the way he betrayed me, I now despised him even more for what he and Jasper had done to Dora.He stared at me for a moment. “Where have you been?”His eyes slowly moved over me, taking in everything from my hair to the clothes I wore before settling on my face.“You look good.”I let out a dry laugh. “As opposed to you thinking I would look like a hungry beggar on the street?”He shrugged and slipped his hands into his jacket pockets. “Don’t blame me for thinking so.”His gaze dropped to my wrist, lingering on the watch around it. “Is that Dolce and Gabbana rainbow watch?”I glanced down at the watch, then back at him. All I could do was scoff.“Wearing a fake designer watch is never going to make people take you seriously, Aurora. If anything, it is only going to make them lose respect for you.”“I beg your pardon? What makes you think it is fake?”“You can’t afford an o
