Chapter 3

Author: Emerald Gains
Helen arrived sooner than I expected. When she saw me lying on the floor, bruised and disheveled, she paled.

"Yasmine!" She cried out in shock and rushed to my side.

Carefully, she helped me up. "Oh, my goodness. Who did this to you?"

Her eyes turned red. Her voice was filled with rage and pain.

Leaning on her, I felt comforted. I shook my head, indicating that I was fine.

Without another word, I grabbed the debit card Helen handed to me and threw it at Wendy's feet. The metal card clattered against the floor.

"The password is 777777. There are five million dollars in it. After you take this, you'd better pray that the rest of your life will still be peaceful."

Saying that, I limped out with Helen's help without sparing Wendy another glance. Behind me, Wendy and the store clerks whispered amongst themselves excitedly.

After walking out of that disgusting boutique, I took a deep breath of the fresh air outside and felt revitalized. Upon entering Helen's spacious van, I called Lucas Larson, the chief assistant of my company.

"Withdraw all our funding from Wendy Boutique. I want this boutique to disappear from this city in three days."

On the other end of the line, Lucas didn't ask anything. He simply replied, "Alright, Ms. Miller. I'll handle it right away."

After ending the call, I said to Helen without hesitation, "Helen, send me to the nearest police station."

Ordering the driver to turn around, Helen looked at me worriedly. "Yasmine, with your wounds… Shouldn't you go to the hospital first?"

I shook my head. My eyes were cold and determined.

"I'll go to the hospital after I report them to the police. I want to file a case and get a forensic medical evaluation as soon as possible."

At the police station, I described everything to the police officer. The police officer started to look at me differently when I mentioned that five million dollars was involved.

After leaving the police station, we headed straight for the hospital. The doctor examined me thoroughly. With the transaction history, witnesses, and the forensic medical evaluation, I had all the proof I needed to accuse Wendy.

Lucas called me again, "Ms. Miller, I found it. Mr. Sanders is currently having a meeting with several department managers in the conference room on the highest floor of the company."

I went to the company with my driver and the bodyguards I just hired. The door to the conference room was left slightly ajar. I ordered my bodyguards to wait outside and walked up to the door quietly.

Wendy was sobbing inside. "Cole, I'm scared…

"That old hag was terrifying. Not only did she refuse to pay yesterday, but she also threatened me with her men. She even said she was going to put my boutique out of business…

"I'm just a normal girl who likes designing clothes. What did I do wrong? Why do I have to be bullied by some rich customer?"

She twisted the truth and made herself sound like a pitiful artist who had been abused by a powerful customer. Then, I heard Cole say angrily, "Don't be scared, Wendy.

"I'm here. I won't forgive her if she lays a finger on you!

"So what if she's rich? It means nothing!

"Don't worry. I'll order someone to hunt her down and make her kneel and apologize to you!"

He hugged her and gently comforted her in front of the company's department managers, promising her everything.

The conference room was dead silent. No one had the guts to speak up.

They had worked for me for years. I guessed that their current expressions must be a very interesting sight to behold.

The son that I had raised for over 20 years vowed to make his mother kneel before a deceitful woman. He even turned an important company meeting into a private rendezvous with his girlfriend to comfort her.

I couldn't bear to listen to him anymore. Raising a hand, I gestured to the bodyguards behind me. The bodyguards immediately caught on and kicked the thick door without hesitation.

The door opened with a loud bang. Everyone stood up in shock at the sudden turn of events. They looked at the door, stunned.

I swept my gaze across the room and looked at Wendy and Cole, who were in each other's arms.

"No need to hunt me down. I'm right here. I heard that you were going to teach your mother a lesson, Cole."

After I withdrew the funding from Wendy's unique yet superficial boutique, it quickly went bankrupt. With the talented employees I head-hunted and the resources I had, I started a new high-end clothing brand.I named it "Intent" to remind myself of the original intent I had when I started the business. It was also to remind myself to read others' intent. After the brand was launched, it quickly went viral in the industry for its intricate craftsmanship and unique designs. It was a huge success.A year passed in the blink of an eye. My business was growing day after day, and my life was peaceful.I would think about Cole from time to time. However, my heart no longer ached like it had been back then. All that was left was indifference. It was as if he were the only failed investment I had made in my long, long life. Cutting my losses was the best decision I could've made.On one sunny afternoon, much later after the event, I was having coffee with Helen on the highest balcony of m

I easily handled everything that happened after that. The evidence for Wendy's crime was solid. With witnesses, physical evidence, and the elite legal team I hired, she didn't stand a chance. The judge sentenced her to five years of imprisonment for extortion and assault. I heard that she passed out when the sentence was announced in court. For a young lady who called herself an artist, spending five years of her youth in prison must be worse than being on death row. Cole, on the other hand, finally realized how cruel the world was after I kicked him out. After the security guards kicked him out of the Sanders residence, he was penniless. He tried to ask his so-called friends for help, but all of them shut the door on him.In the past, they kissed up to him just to curry favor with me. Now that he had lost his status, who would bother dealing with him? Cole tried to find a job, but everyone in the industry knew that he had offended me, so no one dared to hire him. When all of hi

My words were a bombshell that exploded in the quiet conference room. Cole turned boneless and fell to the floor. His face was ashen. Shock and devastation filled his eyes. The surrounding employees fell silent at the shocking reveal. Their gazes on Cole changed from jealousy and respect to pity and condescension. He looked at me in a daze and muttered, "I-Impossible… You're lying… You must be lying to me. You must've fabricated this lie to punish me because you're angry…"I couldn't be bothered to talk to him anymore. In front of everyone, I called Lucas and put him on speaker. "Lucas.""How can I help you, Ms. Miller?"I calmly and emotionlessly gave him my orders, one by one. "Firstly, reclaim the villa in Grandview Heights and the three condominiums in the city center that are under Cole's name. Reclaim all of the sports cars in his garage as well."Secondly, freeze all of the bank cards under his name, as well as the prestige black card."Thirdly, start an emergency meetin

Cole was still worried about embarrassing himself at a time like this. His mother was almost beaten to death, yet he wanted his mother to defend the culprit so he wouldn't be embarrassed. My heart froze. I looked at him coldly and saw his panicked expression. Then, I said to the police officer, "Officers, it's not a misunderstanding. Please handle this according to the law."My insistence was like a slap to Cole's face. He watched Wendy cry as the police cuffed her. She struggled as the police dragged her away. When her silhouette vanished from the doorway, he returned to his senses and turned around. Then, he yelled at me, "Yasmine! How could you do that?"She's your future daughter-in-law! How could you get her arrested?"Do you hate her that much? How could you be so cruel?"His eyes were bloodshot. He was so angry that he couldn't think straight. Pointing at me, he accused me of being cruel. The surrounding department managers kept their mouths shut. They were trying very

The air inside the conference room froze. More than ten pairs of eyes were fixed on me. They were all filled with shock, confusion, and fear.Cole turned as pale as a sheet when he saw me. He reflexively let go of Wendy and stuttered, unable to speak.Upon seeing me, Wendy flared up. She broke out of Cole's embrace, pointed at me, and screamed, "That's her, Cole!"The old hag! She's Yasmine, the one you mentioned to me before!" As if grasping onto a lifeline, she accused me, "Look at how shameless she is to come to us! She even brought her men to my boutique to beat me up and steal my money!"Everyone fell silent at her words. Their eyes flitted between my disheveled appearance and the pitiful look on her face. Their gazes were skeptical and condescending.Cole had always been afraid of me. His legs were starting to give out. Perhaps because his girlfriend was present, or perhaps because he was in front of so many employees, he managed to muster up the courage to talk me down.
