“I don't have to explain myself to you!” Pecan snarled, pointing her index finger, Zara arched a brow, without flinching.

“Is that so?” She asked, amusement glinting in her eyes, crossing her arms she leaned into the door frame, getting comfortable. Pecan hissed, moving to leave but Zara followed blocking her part, “I just think it's funny you know?” she trailed off tapping her chin

Pecan waited for a few moments before getting impatient with the red-headed girl, clenching her fist, “What's funny? What's so funny you won't get out of my way?”

Zara doesn't take offense at her words, instead, her smirk blooms into a smile, her eyes narrowing on her prey, “I just think it's funny how Ella happened to enter the pack so easily you know? As fortified as our gates and all, she a lone female wolf with barely any power just somehow managed to waltz in without anyone being the wiser until it was too late.”

Pecan ground her teeth, her palms were sweaty, and she didn't reply to Zara

CHAPTER 1 - THE PAINFUL BETRAYAL Celene's POV The cold splash of water on my skin jolted me awake. I sat up with a gasp, my heart racing, as I frantically wiped the cold droplets from my face. And that's when I saw her, Ella, standing over me with a wicked grin, the empty glass still clutched in her hand. "What do you think you're doing?" I hollered angrily. She sneered in derision. "It's quite irrational to scream like a lunatic so early in the morning. Don't you think so?" I exhaled slowly. "Get out of my room, now!" She raised an eyebrow. "Your room?" She said this as she moved closer to me. "Okay, let's see how cocky you can get when you get wheeled out of the pack today!" Suddenly, I caught a whiff of her musky scent. Only it wasn't her usual scent. I sniffed again, and this time, the scent was more pronounced. In the whole Violet pack, only one person had this scent. My boyfriend, Christoph! Why did my bitchy stepsister have his scent all over her? My gaze darkened a

My sister!" I choked back another anguished sob, hating how weak and pitiful I sounded. I hated that he had brought me to these depths of humiliation after all the lonely, hopeful months I had waited for his return."I was going to tell you, but..." he trailed off, biting into his lips."But you didn't." My voice broke out as I wiped the corners of my eyes. "You sneaked into the pack to bang my sister; how could you do this to me? You promised to never hurt me!"He conceded with his fist. "Listen, Celene. I promise it will never repeat itself." He reached out to touch me."Don't yo

Chapter 3 Celene's POV They dragged me into the judgement hall, and I realised a couple of pack members, the judgement council, and Dad Valerie were already gathered there. They all had accusatory and judging expressions as they cast sidelong glances at me. The guards asked me to kneel. "Dad, what's going on?" I yelled, frustration getting the best part of me. He didn't even bother answering me as he faced the people present. "Today, I lost my second daughter, Ella!" I let out a gasp. "What? How's that even possible!?" The judgement room sprang into life with whisperings and chatter. A needle-like pain was stabbing at my knees, and I felt like every ounce of strength in my body was being snapped out. "We are trying to find out who..." "She did it!" Leslie cut him off coldly, pointing accusing fingers at me. "This cold-blooded runt killed my daughter in the woods. We have all the evidence on her, and now she has to pay with her life!" Her words held so much weight that they

Valerie stuttered. He sneered. "You know, for some moment, I almost assumed you tried to kill your own daughter!" He paused as everyone gasped in shock, and a scowl appeared on Valerie's face."I was just kidding!" He laughed, low and husky. "She was caught in the trap your pack warriors set out for rogues. I saved her."Valerie gritted her teeth as she managed a tight smile. "Thank you so much. Uhm... We are sorry for putting you through so much trouble. The judgement is hereby cancelled." She announced.Mondrian suddenly held his hand up. "No!" He shook his head. "That wasn't exactly the way I imagined you would say it. You should apologi

The drive home is more annoying than it seems with Alex on the drivers side chirping away with unhinged excitement at my plight. After filling him in on what had happened in the Violet pack. “So you’re saying that you think her own mother probably tried to kill her daughter??” Alex’s hands raise high to the roof of the car as he shuts the top windows as the slow drizzle of the rain revolves around us. My hands find their way into the gentle strands of hair that've been pulled back with the rubber band I’ve become accustomed to carrying around. Releasing my hair from their bonded terror, I don’t give a verbal response but Alex doesn’t even wait for a response before coming to an answer of his own.“That doesn’t make any sense man.” “I didn’t say she did it. I said..there’s a probability that she’s the one who sent those assassins. There’s something fishy going on and that’s not even the most of my problems at the

114BeckyI walked out of the pack house with my head held high and my luggage rolling by my side. Zara stood by my side with a solemn expression.“Cheer up, Zara it's not like anybody died” I laughed, trying to cheer her up.“You are right. This is much more worse.” The laugh is been meaning to laugh turns into a dry chuckle before dying down into a sigh. She turned to me, “What happens next? Where will you go?”I shrugged at her words, looking away and into the horizon, “I'll make something up. I'm sure it will work out in the end.”“You can't put all your hope on fate Celene, “ she chastised, looking at me with anxiousness, “There is so much danger out there. You have to have a plan.”I chuckled, patting her shoulders, “It's okay I'm aware. I'll find a place to stay. I'm an adult I can take care of myself.”She hesitated, before heaving out a huge sigh, “Fine. She can't leave, we need—”“Okay!” Zara cut through whatever he had planned to say, and from his eyes, I knew he wasn't pleased by her interruption as she continued, “It looks like you both have a lot to talk about.” She gave me a pointed stare and I was grateful

Expressing a deep breath, he finally spoke, “Princess Celene I need to talk to you.”If there's anything you have to say, you can do it here. I have nothing to hide.” She answered folding away a piece of clothing, Alex's brows rose, his teeth gritting.“It's about the Alpha.” Celene's arms froze midway, and she slowly turned towards him, her voice cold and firm, “Then I have nothing to say to you. I've heard all I need to about Mondrian. I don't need you to tell me anymore.”Alex gritted his teeth, taking a step into the room, “You don't understand, Celene. This is important. 111 Celene My legs moved on their own accord taking me farther away from the crowd and into the west gardens, a place I’d passed through a few times to get away from the bustle of the pack. In its way, it was a haven, and the goddess knew I needed it now. I heard Mondrian call for me but I didn't answer, I cannot. Tears fall freely down my cheeks as thoughts of the past months flit through my mind like some horror movie. If everything Ella had said to be true then I truly had been betrayed by everyone I knew, my father, my friends, and now Mondrian. At the thought of him, my heart twinged with pain, and along with it came an anger that almost seemed to consume me, and I screamed, punching a tree trunk, “That bastard! He used me! He did this to me!” The more I shouted the more rage I felt, I had never felt this way for another person not for Violet Ella, or even my father, their betrayal I had always expected, but not from Mondrian. Not him. Why him? “Celene, calm down, let'

You come to my pack and accuse people. How dare you?” Her eyes widened in shock at the attack, Ella had never seen me get angry or use force, “it's true I'd never lie!” She shouted struggling against the guards “You have to listen to me Celene, Your so-called Alpha is the devil. He sent me after—” “Shut up!” Mondrian ordered shocking us both, confused I turned to find him glaring at Ella, “If you know what's good for you, then you better keep your mouth shut.” Ella laughed at his words, “or else what? You'll kill me? Maim me. Celene can't you see, he's threatening me to protect his image.” Confused I looked over at Mondrian, his eyes refusing to meet mine, but the trust I had for him was overwhelming scoffing I stepped away from Ella, “It's good to know that the leopard never changes its s
