POV: EVE

Eve woke to sunlight streaming through floor-to-ceiling windows and the immediate, brutal awareness that something was very, very wrong.

Her body ached. Not the pleasant soreness of a good workout, but something deeper...intimate. Her thighs trembled when she tried to move. Her core felt tender, used, claimed in ways she'd never experienced.

And she was naked.

Completely, utterly naked in a bed that wasn't hers, wrapped in sheets that smelled like expensive cologne and sex and something darker she couldn't name.

Dimitri.

The memory crashed over her like ice water: The bar. The whiskey. Climbing into his lap. Begging....oh God, she'd begged him to touch her. His fingers inside her. His mouth on her. Coming so hard she'd screamed his name.

And then... nothing. Blackness. Had they...?

She sat up too fast, and her head spun with the remnants of alcohol and pleasure and regret. The room came into focus slowly....masculine, massive, expensive. Dark wood and leather furniture. A door that probably led to a bathroom. Another that must lead out.

Out.

She needed to get out.

Eve swung her legs over the edge of the bed, hissing at the soreness, and stood on shaky legs. Her dress from last night lay in a crumpled heap on the floor. Her shoes were nowhere to be seen. Her purse...where was her purse?

She grabbed the dress, started to pull it on, and that's when she saw it.

A folder on the nightstand. Cream-colored, expensive-looking, with her name written across the front in elegant script.

Eve Thorne

Her hands shook as she picked it up, opened it, and started to read.

AGREEMENT OF OWNERSHIP

This contract, entered into on [last night's date], between Dimitri Valentino (hereafter "Owner") and Eve Thorne (hereafter "Property")...

Property.

The word made her stomach drop.

She kept reading, each line worse than the last:

Duration: Six (6) months from date of signing

Terms: - Property's body, time, and choices belong exclusively to Owner - Property will make herself available at Owner's beck and call - Property will obey all instructions given by Owner - Property will not engage in sexual or romantic contact with any other person - Property's location, schedule, and activities require Owner's approval - Owner reserves the right to punish Property for disobedience

Compensation: - Owner will provide financial support, protection, and pleasure - Owner will ensure Property's safety and well-being

Termination Clause: - Either party may terminate this agreement before the six-month period - Party initiating early termination must pay the other party $50,000,000 (fifty million dollars) for emotional damages

And there, at the bottom, in handwriting that was definitely hers but that she had zero memory of producing:

Eve Thorne

She'd signed it.

She'd signed away six months of her life to Dimitri Valentino.

Fifty million dollars. Fifty. Million. Dollars.

She didn't have fifty million dollars. She didn't have five million dollars. Her company was successful but not that successful. Her divorce wasn't even finalized. Her assets were tied up. She was, for all intents and purposes, broke compared to that number.

Which meant...

She couldn't leave.

She couldn't afford to leave.

She was trapped.

"No," she whispered, her voice cracking. "No, no, no, no, no."

She had to get out. Had to think. Had to find a way to fix this before....

Before what? Before Dimitri woke up and expected her to honor this insane contract?

Yes. Exactly that.

Eve pulled her dress on with shaking hands, not bothering with her bra or panties....wherever those had ended up. She grabbed her purse from a chair in the corner, checked for her phone (dead, of course), her wallet (still there), her keys.

She could leave. She could go to her apartment, charge her phone, call a lawyer, figure out how to break this contract. There had to be a way. Contracts signed while intoxicated weren't legally binding, were they?

She moved toward the door on silent feet, her heart hammering so hard she could hear it in her ears.

The bedroom door opened soundlessly. She stepped into a hallway....tastefully decorated, more expensive art on the walls, thick carpet that muffled her footsteps.

She could hear... nothing. No sounds of movement. No indication that anyone else was awake.

Good.

"The odds of failure would be high with anyone," Dante said. "But with you leading, the odds of success become acceptable. That's why you're the only person I trust with this.""Boss....""I'm not asking," Dante interrupted, his voice dropping to something lethal. "I'm telling you. You lead the extraction team. You get Eve out. And you get out clean. Can you do that?"Luca studied him for a long moment. Then: "Yeah. I can do it.""Good," Dante said. "Because this is the move that changes everything. Once we have Eve, Dimitri will do anything to get her back. And when he does, he'll be vulnerable in ways he's never been before."***The target date was set.Three days away. That gave them time to finalize logistics, position assets, brief the extraction team, and prepare contingency plans for every scenario Dante's tactical mind could imagine.Dante sat in his office within the safe house, reviewing aerial photography of the building exterior, the surrounding streets, the exit routes.

The room went quiet."That's extremely dangerous," Luca said carefully. "Recruiting current staff members means they know what we're planning. They become loose ends.""Only if we need to tie them off," Dante replied coldly. "And they only need to be loose ends if they pose a threat. Which they won't, because they'll understand that cooperation is in their best interest.""How do we convince them of that?" Carmine asked."Money," Dante said simply. "Fear. Leverage. Some combination of the three. People are motivated by wants and needs. Find out what the staff members want and need. Exploit it."Luca nodded slowly, understanding the logic even as his expression suggested he didn't love it."I'll have detailed dossiers on all current penthouse staff by tomorrow," Carmine said. "Financials, family connections, criminal records, vices. Everything we need to find leverage.""Good," Dante said. "And I need real-time intelligence on Dimitri's movements. Where he goes. Who he meets with. His

By day 18, Dante was off the crutches. Not completely functional. Still moving slowly, still favoring his good leg, still limited in what he could do. But mobile in a way that felt like freedom compared to the immobility of the past two weeks."I need to see the intelligence reports," Dante said, settling into a chair in the operations room.Luca hesitated. "You're not ready for operational planning. You need more recovery time.""I've had enough recovery time," Dante said flatly. "I need to know what we're doing. I need to understand the scope of what we're planning. And I need to start making decisions."Luca studied him for a long moment. Then, seeing the absolute resolve in Dante's expression, he nodded."Alright. I'll bring you everything we have on the penthouse security, Eve's routine, and the extraction plans."***Three weeks into recovery, and Dante was standing without support. The physical therapist, a woman Luca had brought in from the outside, someone completely loyal an

The days blurred together.Therapy in the morning. Medication every four hours. Nightmares every time Dante closed his eyes despite the sedatives. Rage boiling underneath every interaction. The medications created a strange chemical environment. The painkillers made him numb. The anti-inflammatories made him spacey. The sedatives for sleep made him groggy when he woke. Combined, they created a fog where Dante couldn't quite access the full force of his rage, which was probably the point."Your body's going through a lot," Luca explained on Day 5, checking the wound for infection. "The medications are necessary to keep you functional and to prevent sepsis. But they do have cognitive side effects. You might feel slower. Might have trouble concentrating. Might feel emotional in ways you're not used to.""I feel nothing," Dante said flatly."You feel everything," Luca corrected gently. "You're just too medicated to fully process it right now. That's okay. Let yourself exist in that space

  • UNDRESSED BY THE MAFIA LORD   Chapter 308: Dante's Recovery

POV: DANTEDAY 1The pain was a living thing. It had texture and temperature and weight. It sat on his chest like a predator, breathing into his face, reminding him with every breath that he was wounded.Dante lay on the surgical table in the safe house's medical room, his leg immobilized in a compression cast, his ribs wrapped so tight he could barely breathe. The IV in his arm delivered a steady stream of medications...painkillers, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories. The combination created a strange cocktail of numbness and heightened awareness, like his body was underwater but his mind was screaming."How are you feeling?" Luca asked from somewhere beyond the fog.Dante wanted to laugh. Wanted to scream. Wanted to burn down the entire building and everyone in it because the answer was: like absolute hell.Instead, he said nothing. The silence stretched between them. Luca didn't push. One of the things Dante appreciated about him was that he understood when words were a waste of ener

Dante's blood or Dimitri's blood or Isabella's blood. Maybe all three."I'll make the preparations," Luca said."Good," Dante said. "And Luca?""Yes, boss?""Thank you for getting me out of there. For saving my life."Luca nodded. "Always."Because that was what he did. He saved Dante's life. He kept him breathing. He stood by him through wars and betrayals and obsessions that consumed everything in their path.Because Dante was his Don. His leader. His reason for existing in this world. And Luca would follow him into hell and come out the other side, no matter the cost.Even if the cost was the end of them both.***POV: LUCALater that night, after Dante was heavily medicated and sleeping, Luca stood on the roof of the safe house and looked out at Jersey City spread below him.Twelve years.Twelve years he'd been at Dante's side. Twelve years of loyalty, of sacrifice, of putting Dante's needs before his own.And in those twelve years, he'd learned to read Dante better than anyone el
