Leona stepped out of her father’s room, closing the heavy door behind her with a soft click. The quiet hallway smelled faintly of his cologne, and for a moment she just stood there, letting the tension in her shoulders ease. She slipped her hand into her pocket and felt the vibration of her phone.

Pulling it out, she saw Adrian’s name flashing on the screen. Her lips curved slightly as she answered.

“Hello?”

“Leona,” Adrian’s deep voice came through the line. “Are you busy this evening?”

She glanced at the clock on the wall, it was still morning. “Not really. Why?”

“I’d like to meet up. There’s something I need to talk to you about. Somewhere quiet.”

A small crease formed between her brows. “Is it urgent?”

“Not the kind of thing to say over the phone,” he replied. “Meet me at La Brise at seven. It’s the weekend, so you can relax a little.”

She let out a soft breath. “Alright. I’ll see you then.”

“Good. And Leona?”

“Yes?”

“Don’t be late.”

A tiny smirk tugged at her lips as she ended th

The next morning, soft rays of sunlight slipped through the thin curtains of the hotel room. Leona blinked awake, her eyes still heavy from sleep. The faint smell of coffee lingered in the air.Adrian was already up, sitting on the couch by the window with his phone in hand. A tray of breakfast sat on the table, scrambled eggs, toast, fruit, and two mugs of steaming coffee.“Good morning,” she murmured, rubbing her eyes as she sat up.He glanced up, a smile tugging at his lips. “Morning. You must be hungry. I didn’t know if you’d want coffee or tea, so I ordered both.”Leona chuckled softly. “Coffee will do. Thanks.” She stood, padding over to the table in bare feet. Her fingers wrapped around the warm mug, the heat seeping into her palms. She took a slow sip and let out a sigh. “That’s perfect.”Adrian leaned back on the couch, studying her for a moment. “I had some clothes sent up. They should fit.”She froze mid-sip, tilting her head at him. “Clothes? For me?”“Yeah,” he said casua

Adrian held the car door open for her, his hand lightly resting against the frame.“Careful,” he said softly, eyes meeting hers for a second.Leona slid into the seat, her dress brushing against the leather. “Thank you,” she murmured, clutching her purse close to her chest. The door shut with a muted thud, and Adrian walked around to the driver’s side. He got in, started the engine, and pulled out of the parking lot.For a while, silence filled the car. The city lights flickered outside the window, streaks of yellow and white blending with the dark. Leona leaned her elbow against the door, resting her cheek on her palm. Her eyes followed the passing houses and quiet streets. She stole a glance at Adrian. His profile was sharp, focused on the road, jaw tight like he was deep in thought.Leona looked away quickly. Her chest felt strange, like butterflies she didn’t invite. Then, something cold tapped against the glass. She blinked, staring at the window.A raindrop.Soon another, and an

The music shifted, heavy bass thumping through the walls and shaking the ground under their feet. Lights flashed across the crowd in streaks of purple and red, catching on the glass walls behind the DJ booth.Leona laughed as Melissa and herself swayed their hips to the beat of Wine Pon You by Doja Cat. The song throbbed through the room, bodies grinding, arms raised in the air. Melissa threw her head back, dark curls bouncing, and spun around with wild energy.Leona followed her, her own body giving in to the rhythm. For the first time that night, she felt lighter, almost free. Her arms moved above her head as she let herself get lost in the crowd. Then a guy with a confident grin and broad shoulders slid into their space, leaning toward Melissa with a look that was anything but shy. He bent close to say something in her ear, and Melissa laughed, brushing a strand of hair off her face.Melissa caught Leona’s eye and gave her a quick wink, mouthing, I’ll be fine. Then she nodded towar

TWENTY MINUTES LATER Melissa’s voice rang clear over the mic, still a little breathless from the excitement of the night. The bright stage lights caught the glitter on her dress as she smiled out at the crowd.“Thank you, everyone, for coming tonight,” she said warmly, her eyes sweeping across the sea of faces. “I’m so grateful for all your support. I’m happy to say most of the dresses from tonight’s walk have already been pre-booked. And a special thank you…” Her gaze softened as she turned toward the front row. “To my best friend, Leona, for being here.”Leona smiled from her seat, her chest swelling with pride. She clapped along with the rest of the room as Melissa gave a little wave and stepped down from the stage. The buzz of voices and the sound of cameras clicking filled the air while guests began to mingle again.Leona made her way toward the backstage area, weaving through racks of shimmering gowns and makeup artists busy packing away their kits.“Melissa!” she called, her h

The lights dimmed to almost nothing. For a heartbeat, the room gets swallowed in darkness. Then...They flare to life, not in gold this time, but in pure, blinding white. The runway glows under the brightness, like fresh snow under a winter sun.Leona felt the air shift. It was subtle, but real. The kind of change that makes people sit up straighter without knowing why. A murmur runs through the crowd, low but charged, like a wave rolling across the shore before it breaks.Beside her, Melissa leans in, her perfume warm and sweet in the cool air. “Finale,” she whispers, her voice almost lost in the hush. The music starts, not slow and sultry like before, but sharp, alive, pulsing with a beat that seems to thump in Leona’s chest. It’s not a song that waits for you; it drags you with it.Then, from behind the velvet curtain, the final model appears.Leona’s first thought is that she looks like night itself come to life. She’s wearing a gown so dark it seems to drink in the light, yet the

The lights dimmed until the whole room was wrapped in shadows, leaving the long stretch of the runway glowing gold like a path only the bold could walk. The crowd seemed to sense it, voices softened, clinking glasses were set down, and even the restless shifting of bodies stilled. Then came the music. It started low, the kind of beat that curled under your skin, slow and heavy, pulling everyone into its rhythm. From behind the velvet curtain, the first model appeared. She was tall, her steps sharp and sure, the click of her heels falling in time with the beat. The silk gown she wore shimmered under the warm lights, the gold fabric moving like sunlight had melted and poured over her body.Leona leaned forward slightly, her elbows resting on the edge of the table. Her eyes followed every sway, every calculated step.“Wow…” she whispered, almost to herself.Melissa smirked, her eyes glinting. “And this is just the first look.” She said. The model’s chin was high, her gaze fixed straight
