ONE WEEK LATER

This morning felt brighter than usual. Leona stood in front of her dressing mirror, fixing the last button of her grey suit jacket. She tilted her head, adjusting the lapel, and smoothed the fabric down. Her reflection looked calm, but inside her chest there was a steady rhythm of nerves. Today’s meeting was important.

She picked up a silver chain from her drawer, clipped it around her neck, then brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. Dana’s voice came from the doorway, cheerful as always.

“You look powerful, ma’am. That suit was a great choice,” Dana said, holding a folder close to her chest.

Leona turned, a small smile pulling at her lips. “Do I? I feel like my stomach is twisting in knots.”

Dana shook her head quickly. “You’ve got this. Trust me. And besides…” She grinned, lowering her voice like she was sharing a secret. “You’ll impress them before you even open your mouth.”

That made Leona laugh softly. “Thank you, Dana. Let’s go before I change my mind and hide

Leona woke up the next morning with her head pounding as if tiny drums were beating inside her skull. She groaned and pressed her palm against her forehead, trying to block out the sunlight streaming through the curtains.“Oh no… what did I do last night?” she mumbled, her voice rough and dry.Her tongue felt like paper, and her throat burned for water. She sat up slowly, blinking as she looked around her room. Something felt off. The blanket was neatly tucked around her, her shoes were nowhere to be seen, and her jacket had been carefully placed over the chair by her vanity.Leona rubbed her temples, trying to remember. “Wait… I don’t remember walking in here by myself…”Her stomach twisted. She clearly recalled being at the karaoke bar with her staff. She remembered laughter, clapping hands, the microphone being passed around, and everyone singing in terrible but funny voices. Then… drinks. A lot of drinks. After that, her memory turned into fuzzy flashes. She frowned, staring at he

SAME NIGHTThe night was alive with noise and laughter. Leona sat with her staff in a small private room at a karaoke bar. Bright neon lights flickered outside the glass windows, casting colorful shadows across their table stacked with half-finished plates of food, bottles of beer, and untouched slices of cake.“Cheers to us!” Dana shouted, raising her glass of wine high.“To us!” the others echoed, their voices overlapping with the sound of someone butchering a love ballad on the stage.Leona lifted her glass with a smile. Her cheeks glowed faintly red from the drinks she’d already had. She wasn’t much of a drinker, but tonight was special. Tonight, their hard work had paid off.Her staff clinked glasses, voices ringing with joy. One of the younger designers leaned toward her, face flushed. “Boss, we did it. Everyone was talking about our designs. They couldn’t take their eyes off the work. We’re going to get so many calls after this.”Leona laughed softly, brushing a strand of hair

NEXT DAY: GOLDEN CIRCLE GALAThe evening lights of the ballroom glowed like melted gold, bouncing off crystal chandeliers that hung from the high ceiling. The business gala was already in full swing when Leona and her secretary, Dana, arrived. Men in tailored suits and women in sleek gowns filled the room with quiet chatter, laughter, and the clinking of glasses.Leona smoothed down the front of her fitted suit trousers as they walked in. She wasn’t one for flashy dresses tonight, she wanted to look sharp, focused, and professional. Her hair was tied neatly at the back, her makeup subtle but enough to highlight the confidence in her face. Dana, walking by her side, carried a small tablet tucked under her arm, always ready to take notes or handle details if needed.Their designs and décor work had already been noticed. Soft murmurs and glances followed them as they entered, whispers about her company, the same one many had once doubted would even survive.“Looks like we’re already th

  • Unbroken: His Ex Wife's Comeback    She's Different

Adrian sat back in his chair, staring blankly at the papers on his desk. His office was wide, the large glass windows pulling in the morning sun, yet his mind was not there. He leaned back, tapping his pen against the armrest, his eyes distant.Xavier was seated across from him, legs stretched out, talking with his usual flair. His hands moved as he spoke, full of excitement. But Adrian heard nothing. His thoughts had already slipped somewhere else, back to her.Leona.The way she smiled softly when she looked at him. The way her laughter had carried across the table at dinner. It stirred something inside him he hadn’t felt in years. His chest tightened just remembering the sparkle in her eyes, the faint blush on her cheeks when he teased her.Adrian’s jaw flexed slightly, the memory of the men at the restaurant sliding into his mind. Their stares had lingered far too long, and it had taken every ounce of control in him not to stand and snap at them. Instead, he’d sent them his sharpe

The night air was cool, the faint sound of traffic fading behind them as Adrian drove. Leona leaned her head against the window, her thoughts still circling Dorian and the bitter encounter from earlier. She wanted to scream, to break something, anything, but instead she just breathed, slow and heavy, watching the dark streets roll by.“Want to grab something sweet?” Adrian’s voice broke the silence, low but steady. She turned her head slightly, one brow lifting. “Sweet? At this hour?”He chuckled, his hands loose on the wheel. “There’s never a wrong hour for ice cream. Trust me, it helps.”Her lips curved into the smallest smile. “Ice cream?”“Yeah. Unless you’re too grown up for that?” he teased, cutting his eyes toward her for a second.Leona rolled her eyes but laughed softly, the tension in her chest easing just a little. “Fine. But only because I don’t have the energy to argue.”“Good enough for me.”They stopped at a small corner shop that was still open. The neon lights flicker
