Kale's POV

I was sitting in lecture hall, but honestly my body was the only part of me that was there, because my brain was still stuck backstage from yesterday, replaying the way Jace Monroe had looked at me.

God. I dropped my pen for the third time in five minutes, and the sound it made when it hit the floor felt way too loud in the quiet classroom.

“Boy.” The word came with a hard smack to my shoulder that made me jump in my seat.

“Ow, what the hell?” I said, turning to look at who hit me.

Molly was leaning into my space with her eyes wide open and a huge grin on her face like she had just won the lottery.

“You were fire yesterday,” she whispered, but her whisper was so loud that half the class could probably hear her.

“Like actual fire. I saw everything on TV. Those riffs and runs? Those high notes? You killed it.”

“Yeah,” I muttered while rubbing my shoulder where she hit me. “Thanks.”

“Don’t you ‘yeah’ me,” she snapped back at me right away. “You’re famous now. You need to act like it.”

I snorted because she was being dramatic. “Relax, Molly. It was just one audition, not like I won a Grammy or something.”

“FYI,” she said, completely ignoring what I just said like she always does, “the entire music class is talking about you right now.”

I groaned and put my head in my hands. “Please don’t tell me that.”

“Oh, I definitely will,” she said in this sweet voice. “Even Noah is talking about you.”

I froze in my seat. “…Noah?” I repeated slowly.

Molly’s grin turned evil. “The Noah,” she said.

Oh God... My face got hot really fast. Because yeah, Noah was the hottest straight guy in our whole level, and I had been crushing on him in complete silence since the first day of college.

Molly stopped talking and narrowed her eyes at me. “…What’s that in your hand?” she asked.

I blinked at her. “What?”

“That,” she said, pointing at my hand. “That black thing. You’ve been holding it like it’s your life savings or something.”

I looked down at my hand. Oh, shit, it was the card. Shit! Shit! Shit! “It’s nothing,” I said really quickly, trying to hide it. “It’s not a big deal.”

“You’re lying,” she said. “Your cheeks are red,” she pointed out.

“They are not.”

“You’re blushing like a virgin in a romance movie. Give it to me.”

“Molly...”

Before I could hide it, she grabbed it right out of my hand. “Molly, I swear to God."

Her eyes dropped to the card in her hand, and then everything went quiet. One second. Two seconds.

Three... “OH. MY. GOD.”

I lunged across the desk. “Shut up!”

“This is... THIS IS...” she squealed, and she grabbed my arm so hard. “This is Jace Monroe’s card?!”

I winced. “Keep your voice down! People are watching us.”

“Jace Monroe?!” She whispered. “The Jace? Like, hot, untouchable, and music industry menace Jace?!”

“You’re being dramatic,” I told her, trying to stay calm.

More people were looking now. “Molly,” I hissed at her, “sit down before I disown you as my friend.”

She dropped into her seat and leaned so close to me that our heads almost knocked together. “How did you get this?"

I hesitated for a second, and that was my first mistake. Her eyes got really wide. “Wait,” she gasped. “Did you steal it?”

“Hell no!” I said.

“Then how?"

“He gave it to me,” I snapped.

There was silence again. Then... “Ohhhhhh,” she dragged out the word, and her voice was getting louder again, “he gave it to you."

I slapped my hand over her mouth so fast. “Shut... Up." I slowly took my hand away from her mouth.

“He gave it to you?” she whispered.

“…Yeah,” I admitted.

Molly’s whole face tightened like she was trying really hard not to scream. “Oh my God,” she breathed out. “Do you know what this means?”

“That you’re about to embarrass me in front of everyone?”

“I’m coming with you.”

“What?”

“I’m following you. I need to see this man in real life.”

“No Molly...”

“I’m going to admire him,” she kept going, completely ignoring me like usual. “Maybe touch his arms, kiss him... or suck his dick.”

“EW—MOLLY!”

She laughed really loud. “You’re going, right?” she asked with a serious face.

“Of course I am,” I muttered.

Her grin came back instantly. “TGIF, baby!” she said, and she slapped my hand for a high five. “We’re about to make terrible decisions.”

“You’re about to make terrible decisions,” I corrected her. Before I could say anything else, someone else spoke from behind me.

“You sang yesterday, right?”

My whole body went stiff. I knew that voice. I turned around too fast and almost tripped over my feet. Noah was standing there looking all sexy.

“Yeah,” I said, and my voice immediately betrayed me by sounding nervous. “I mean, yes. That was me.”

He nodded once. “It was good,” he said. “I recognized your voice.”

Ooouu, he recognized my voice. “Th—thank you,” I stammered.

He gave a small nod, then he just… walked past me. I stood there blinking like I had just been hit by a truck.

“You’re going to make him uncomfortable if you keep blushing like that,” Molly whispered to me.

“Shut up,” I muttered, but my voice was weak.

I dropped back in my chair. This day was already too much for me, and it wasn’t even noon yet. Then my phone buzzed in my pocket. I frowned. Unknown number, probably just spam. I almost ignored it, but then I opened the message.

"Hey. You have a great voice. I’d like to meet you tonight at the studio. You have my card. Jace."

I stared at the screen. “…How the fuck did he get my number?”

  • Under His Control    The Weight After

Kale’s POV beThe hot water from the bathroom sink was running over my hands but it wasn’t helping.I kept scrubbing with rough paper towels until my skin felt raw, like if I went hard enough I could take whatever was sitting under it off too. It didn’t work. The mess was gone but the guilt stayed, thick and sour in my stomach, sitting there like I’d swallowed something I couldn’t digest.I pulled my sweatpants up with shaking fingers. Fixed my shirt and looked up at the mirror because I had to see what I looked like.My bloodshot eyes, flushed cheeks, and faint red marks on my wrists that hadn’t been there this morning. If Molly saw me like this she’d know immediately. She’d call me a mess, a fuck-up, maybe worse. And she wouldn’t be wrong to. The thought of her face twisting in disgust made my throat close up.I bit down on the inside of my cheek and forced the tears back. Breathed in, out, until my hands stopped shaking so much. Then I unlocked the door and stepped into the hall.E

  • Under His Control    The Price of Silence

Kale’sPOVHis lips were hot and hard against mine. I froze as Noah deepened the kiss, forcing his tongue past my teeth without asking. My head was spinning. If Jace found out about the search file, I was dead. My career would be buried. The strange, toxic love I was starting to feel for Jace would burn to ashes.Tears gathered at the corners of my eyes, hot and stinging. If I ever told Molly about this, she would think I was a complete whore and a fuck boy.She would look at me with so much disgust.I hated myself. I hated how trapped I was, and I hated the sick truth that my body was responding to Noah's broad frame.Noah pulled his mouth back an inch, his heavy breath fanning across my wet lips. "Decision time, star boy," he whispered, his grip on my neck tightening until I whimpered. "Do I walk out that door to Jace, or do you stay here and take what you want?"A tear escaped, sliding down my cheek and hitting his thumb. "Don't tell him," I choked out, my voice breaking into a desp

  • Under His Control    Noah’s Leverage

Kale’s POV"What??"The word tore out of my mouth before my brain could even process what he had just said."What do you mean, you? Are you out of your mind or crazy, huh?"Noah didn't answer right away. He just stood there with that same dark, infuriating smirk plastered across his face. He slowly let go of the door handle and took a step back toward me. His shoes made a quiet, heavy sound against the floorboards as he closed the distance between us."I mean exactly what I said, Kale," Noah murmured softly. His voice was smooth and completely unbothered. "It’s the only way this search history stays between us."My back was flat against the cold edge of the desk, and I felt completely trapped as he kept coming toward me. As he stepped in closer, a sudden, unwanted memory flashed through my mind like a violent shock.I remembered that afternoon in the campus stalls—watching Noah pressed up against someone else, hearing his deep gasps and seeing how broad and flawless his body looked un

  • Under His Control    Caught in security

Kale’s POvI turned around. My back hit the smooth edge of the desk. Standing right there in the doorway, framed by the low amber lights of the hall, was Noah.I froze. The air left my lungs all at once. I hadn't seen him around the studio floor all morning, and seeing him pop up out of nowhere sent a sharp jolt of panic straight down my spine. He was dressed in a neat corporate shirt, looking completely put together, but the expression on his face was stone cold."What are you doing in here, Kale?" Noah asked. His voice dropped into a quiet, heavy tone as he stepped inside. He shut the door behind him with a soft click. "And what are you looking for on this computer?"I swallowed hard, trying to force my face into something neutral while my chest slammed against my ribs.I shifted my weight, trying to block his view of the monitor. My fingers crept behind my back, searching for the mouse to close the page."It's none of your business," I said. I tried to make my voice sound steady, t

  • Under His Control    Keep Off

Kale's POVI had to get out. My chest felt too tight. My brain was running laps and my phone was still burning a hole in my pocket with that fucking message. "you’re already getting comfortable. That’s his way to seduce you and I’m sure he has already claimed you."Claimed. Like I was a goddamn jacket. Jace was still talking with Peter and Bri about drum layers and release dates like nothing was wrong. Like I wasn’t sitting here spiraling. “Toilet,” I muttered, pushing back from the desk. Jace glanced up. “You good?” “Yeah,” I lied. “Just… piss. I'll be back shortly.” He nodded once, not suspicious. Not yet. The second I was out the door I exhaled. The hall was quieter. Air conditioning humming, lights too white, posters of JMC artists lining the walls like they were in a museum. My own face wasn’t on any of them. Not yet. I wasn’t actually going to the toilet. I was scared, and curious. That message didn’t come from nowhere. Someone in this building knew something. S

  • Under His Control    The Sovereign Trajectory

Kale's POVMy phone was screaming, vibrating off the nightstand. I blinked against the light, brain still foggy, body still warm, and reached for it without thinking. MOLLY. What the hell. Molly? It was 9:02. "Fuck." “Pick it up,” Jace said beside me, voice low and unbothered. He was already sitting up, bare shoulders, sheets pooled at his waist. “You look like you’re about to have a panic attack. Answer it.”I stared at the screen. Three missed calls. Two texts. WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU LECTURER DID A TEST YOU DUMBASS “I can’t,” I muttered. “She’s gonna lose her shit...”“Answer it,” he repeated. Not mean, just final. I swiped. “KALE!” Molly exploded before I could even say hello. “Are you fucking serious right now? Do you have any idea what time it is? FYI... you missed the test. Again. Mr. Ralph literally asked if you’d been kidnapped. I said yeah, probably by your own stupidity.”I sat up too fast and regretted it. My head spun and my waist ached. “I’m... I overslep
