INICIAR SESIÓN“But you’ll come back, right?”
“No.”
“Why? That’s what you were talking to Leonard about.”
She sighs.
“Yes. You could come with me, but the fear that you might be unsafe is too much for me to risk. Unfortunately, I can’t afford to take time off or keep missing work. And I don’t want to let you down.”
She pauses.
“Leonard assured me he’d take care of you and promised that, if you didn’t want him here, nurses and maids would come and nothing would be lacking. It will always be your choice.”
She looks at me seriously.
“We’ll come here once a week, probably on Friday, and stay until Sunday morning. At least until we’re sure you’re really safe. Besides, the police want to talk to you. They’re coming on Monday.”
She looks at me sadly and uncertainly.
“Blair, I trust him. And you trust me. I don’t know what’s going on between you two, but he cares about you. You’re safer here than the president himself!”
I smile and nod.
She’s right.
Leonard won’t hurt me.
He might be a lot of things, but he’s no rapist.
“He can stay.”
“Mmm…”
She gives me that crooked smile of hers, the one belonging to someone who sees more than she should.
“I know… You’ve got a little crush on him!”
“Shut up! I don’t have anything!”
“Yeah, right!”
I slap her arm, and she runs toward the door, laughing.nShe turns back, kisses me on the forehead, then pulls me into a hug before leaving.
Maybe I do have a little crush on him.
Just a tiny one.
I take the pill the doctor left on the nightstand and lie down.
I need to sleep.
I wake up with a start from another nightmare.
I’m sweaty, and my heart is racing. I try to control my breathing and calm myself as the nightlight comes on. I look around.
I’m alone.
But I don’t want to be alone.
I get up and leave the room. The only sounds I hear are coming from outside.
I look down a long, dimly lit hallway, illuminated by ambient lights along the walls. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the vineyards. On the opposite side, I notice three more doors.
I remember Claire saying she was right next door, so I take a chance and open the first door.
Empty.
It’s smaller than my room, decorated in shades of beige with hints of green. I realize Claire has already left and close the door. I take a few more steps and stop between the last two doors.
Which one is his room?
He must be asleep.
I turn to go back to my room, but stop. I don’t want to be alone, and I don’t feel like sleeping So I summon the courage to find him behind one of these doors.
I place my hand on the doorknob of the second-to-last door and slowly open it. It isn’t an old door, so it doesn’t creak, but my heart insists on pounding in my ears.
I’m nervous.
I peek inside, but all I see is darkness, so I don’t even dare to enter.
I close the door and move on to the next one.
The night is going to be long, I can tell. On impulse, I place my hand on the doorknob and slowly open it. As I push the door, I see light—the same soft ambient lighting as in my room. I push it open a little further.
And I’m completely mesmerized by what I see.
Leonard is lying on the bed shirtless, wearing only black sweatpants.
His laptop is open, and his phone is still in his hand. It looks like he fell asleep while working.
He looks like a God.
A perfectly defined body. A silver chain with a cross hangs around his neck, resting against the hair on his chest.
Now I understand perfectly why they call him Heartbreaker.
This man is gorgeous from head to toe.
Even when he’s asleep. I decide he deserves some rest and turn away.
“Blair!”
I look back and see him getting up.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“What’s going on? Is everything okay? What do you need?”
Now I feel like a complete idiot.
I can see the concern in his eyes.
“Nothing. Seriously, everything’s fine.”
I smile at him.
He stops almost right next to me, but doesn’t force the closeness.
However, his eyes give him away.
He looks me up and down, lingering for too long on my chest. I completely forgot to put on my robe. And now I realize I’m standing in front of him wearing a long black silk nightgown, laced at the bust.
Way too sexy given the situation.
He realizes he’s been silent for too long and clears his throat.
“Tell me what you need, please. You didn’t come looking for me for nothing.”
“Mmm… Well, I had a nightmare and woke up alone and…”
“You need company.”
I nod.
I never thought I’d reach a point in my life where I’d rather be with someone than alone.
His smile is sweet. Who would have thought I’d ever see a smile like that on my boss’s face?
He extends his hand toward me.
I hesitate.
He senses my insecurity, and just as he’s about to lower his hand, I grab it.
I have to trust him.
I woke up to a very discreet maid informing me that lunch was ready and served. When I arrived downstairs, I discovered I would be having lunch alone. The food was divine.Baked salmon with potatoes and asparagus.Something light. After lunch, I decided to take another walk through the vineyards. I greeted the people already working among the vines and even dipped my feet into the pool before heading back inside. Then I returned to my room.I was alone. And incredibly bored. The house was completely silent. The clock was already approaching five in the afternoon, and Leonard still hadn’t left his office.I gathered my courage and made my way there.I reconsidered knocking about ten times before finally forcing myself to do it.“Mmm… Can I come in?”No answer. After a few seconds, I realized I had been completely ignored and turned around to
“What issue do you need me to sort out?”I’m so embarrassed that I can’t find the words to answer him. He doesn’t seem to have caught on to the topic of our conversation. But please, Fate, give me a break! The breeze feels pleasant, and the sunlight reflecting off the back of this hunk takes my breath away.“What’s the matter, Blair?”I come back down to earth and hurry to tell him it was nothing, that Lina was just joking. He raises an eyebrow but doesn’t press the issue. We stand in silence for a few seconds until the tension becomes palpable. My heart starts racing again.“Do you have any food allergies?”“Mmm… not that I know of.”“Is there anything you don’t like? Broccoli or something?”His tone is bored, and he turns back to his phone.“I like almost everything, except for… well, livers and stuff like that.”“Mm. Great. I’ll let my chef know about that.”“Leonard, we need to talk.”He finally looks up at me, waiting.“I know you feel guilty about what happened and you’re trying
The fresh air hits my face, filling my lungs. It feels so good to breathe such pure air and the view is wonderful. We walk down the first few flights of stairs toward a large deck with a huge pool and lounge chairs nearby. We sit in a couple of chairs with a table between us and a beach umbrella overhead. The entire property blends seamlessly into the landscape. It’s undoubtedly something unique.“Blair, I’m so sorry about what happened.”Lina breaks the pleasant silence and pulls me out of my thoughts.“Thank you, Lina.”I give her a reassuring smile.I can tell she genuinely feels bad about what happened to me.“You know, my brother has never brought anyone here.” She pauses. “I mean, no woman has ever set foot in here besides me.”She flashes a mischievous smile.I don’t understand where she’s going with this.“I find that hard to believe,” I say, laughing. “Your brother’s love life is splashed all over the magazine covers.”“Yeah, you’re right. He attracts women and was quite the
The three of us are sitting at the table, with Leonard in the middle.Lina is spreading butter on a piece of bread, while I stir my coffee and eat some cookies.“So… Blair, do you work with my brother?”The sudden break in the silence and the question make Leonard sigh in exasperation at his sister. She ignores him.“Not with your… your brother, but for him.”“And how long have you been working for him?”“Lina, I’m here.”“Shh! I’m talking to Blair!”Leonard grunts but keeps quiet.“I’ve been working for two years.”“Mmm… Tell us more about yourself, Blair! Do you live with your parents or…”“Lina, that’s too personal.”“No, never mind.”I answer before she can continue.“I live alone. My mother passed away, a
“Sorry. I wanted to explain that she wasn’t my wife, but my sister, but you didn’t even let me speak.”Leonard’s expression is stern.Lina, on the other hand, looks amused.“My dear brother, what are you doing? I thought you didn’t mix business with pleasure.”She laughs loudly and turns toward him. Neither of us finds it funny. But he has the nerve to roll his eyes at her and tell her to leave.I stay where I am.Lina turns back to me.“Sorry.”She whispers it before leaving. Now we’re alone.Leonard maintains his stern, irritated expression.“I didn’t know your opinion of me was that I was a traitor and a pig.”I look down at my feet, suddenly embarrassed.I didn’t want him to have heard that.“And a liar…”I say quietly. He gives me a mocking smile.“Did you really think Lina was my wife?”He raises an eyebrow.I feel a pang of jealous
Leonard quickly backs away from me, positioning himself in front of me.His movements are too quick. His protective stance puts all my senses on high alert. Fear engulfs me, and I’m overcome by paralysis. The door swings open, and a woman walks in carrying several bags.Leonard tenses. And I realize he hasn’t canceled his plans.Shit.The woman is beautiful; long, wavy honey-colored hair, tall and slender, brown eyes and full lips, high cheekbones, manicured nails painted light pink. Nothing is out of place. This is exactly how I would imagine Aphrodite.“Lina!”Leonard’s surprised voice confirms that I really shouldn’t be here.Jealousy and insecurity are immediately replaced by fear and panic. And now, instead of being glued to the floor, I start backing away, trying to escape this embarrassing situation.“Leo! Oh! You… you have company.”Leo.There’s intimacy in the way she says it.Is she his girlfriend? The mystery woman has surprise written all over her perfect face. She stands
