(n.) Utter Nonsense

***

'Keeping the pure radiance of the moon as the witness, the heir of the Rakh Clan, and the firstborn female of the Paristo family are to be bound by marriage.'

That was what stated in the letter Rosalind got a while ago. As she dragged her tired body into her house she thought, ‘What the hell?!

Her whole life has been a mess. Working as a personal assistant for the CEO of a famous multi-international company might seem tempting, and it really is, but with the heavy burden of liability on her shoulders and the responsibility of providing her siblings with quality education, doesn’t make it so. She worked from 8 am to midnight, spending all her money on daily necessities, bills, and other stuff.

Today she felt elated as she paid the last installment for the house and loan of her family. She shouldered the responsibility of taking care of her siblings. Although the insurance money was quite hefty, it was exactly the amount of loan money she had to pay back. Her job was arranged by uncle Matthew, her father’s best friend, it was the only thing he could do to help her.

Everything was going as she had wanted, but her world seemed to crumble down when some strangers in black suits came onto her doorstep with a mysterious letter.

"Okay, this is not funny. Are you playing some kind of prank game? Is this a TV show?" Rosalind asked incredulously.

'Is this some kind of joke? It must be right?'

"This is neither a joke nor a TV show, Ms.Paristo. This is a promise, a vow that was made by the former head of our clan and your great grandfather." The solemn voice of a middle-aged man sounded. He carried an undeniably oppressive aura, the people in black suits immediately kneeled and bowed their heads, with their faces covered by their forearm.

The man continued, “Your great grandfather and our former master were close friends. They dreamt of turning their friendship into a lifelong relationship. Unfortunately, his descendants were all male until you came along.”

“You cannot make me marry someone I don't know, just because of some pledge made by the great whatsoever father. I don’t even know him.” Rosalind burst into anger. Her parents never told her about any promise made by her ancestors. And how could they make such a decision for her? Marriage is an important event in life for a person. How could anyone just make a vow related to her without even asking her? She won’t accept it. She would never accept such bullshit.

“Contain your anger, Miss Rosalind. Your great grandfather was a great man with an immense sense of responsibility. If he took the decision, it must be because he knew that the heirs of the Rakh clan have extraordinary qualities. I'm sure he made this decision with your best interest in mind.” The man spoke in a calm timbre as if he hadn’t noticed Rosalind’s breakdown.

“I have never heard of him all my life. I don’t know him and I don’t know the heir of the, I don’t know what clan. Listen to me Mr. Black Suit, I don’t know anything about it. My great grandfather had long been buried and even if he was still alive, he can't make such a decision for me. My best interest is my own business.” Rosalind refused to give in. All her life till now she had worked like a horse. Everything was finally coming together, she was going to have her own leisure time to breath, finally, she could attend her sibling’s guardian meeting, finally, she could have some time for herself, maybe she could date someone.

“Well, Miss Paristo why don’t you consider it carefully. We are not in haste. You could let us know your decision in..." The man pulled his cuffed sleeves just much to peek out a golden watch, "30 minutes. Till then, we will make ourselves feel at home.” The man said as he showed his sly smile and curved eyes. The oppressive aura was gone as soon as he said it. The men scattered inside Rosalind's apartment, some went into the kitchen, some to the bathroom, and some were sitting on the sofa watching TV while an NBA match was going on.

“You are very shameless for an old man. You just wait! I will call the police right now.” Rosalind’s string of patience finally broke. She jumped toward the telephone and dialed the police number only to find it engaged. Then she saw a person with the scissors in his hand and the fragile wire on his other hand.

“Hey, what are you doing?” Rosalind was only a foot away from scratching the man on the face. When the old man growled followed by a flattering tone once again. “Miss Paristo, if you behave like this we would have no other option than to resort to force.”

“First you captivate me in my own house, now you are going to kidnap me too?” Rosalind couldn’t get any angry.

“Well, not a bad idea Miss Paristo,” he said as he turned toward the others and shouted, “Boys, Please escort our upcoming young mistress gently.” Then he turned towards the door to exit.

“Hey, what are you doing?! Leave me. I am f***ing going to kill you all!” Rosalind's scream faded as they thrust her into a van.

In another car, the butler’s cell phone lit up, the Young master was written on the screen,

 “Yes, young master.”

“....”

“Well, she was so delighted that she was jumping and shouting (like a cat). She is more than eager to meet you, young master.”

“...!”

“How could this lowly servant lie to you. She is coming to meet you now.”

“...”

“Very well young master.” who would believe this was the alpha male of the clan, who had never smiled. The male was surely two-faced. Like father like son.

‘Sigh~ he would know the truth later anyway. Let him be this way for now.’
