Dante

I reached for my gun the moment I noticed his hand move.

I didn’t think or hesitate.

I simply pulled the trigger.

The sound of the gunshot echoed through the room, and his body dropped instantly, the chair scraping loudly against the floor as he fell.

Silence.

No one moved or spoke.

My gaze never left Aria as she stood frozen beside Paolo’s dead body.

Something in me twisted and I saw red, not at what I did but for not doing it sooner and letting her be in the same space with a man like h

Aria“It’s not funny.”“Yes, it is,” Gemma said as she continued laughing like a crazy person.“Really, Aria?” Lola said. “You’ve been married for almost a month.”“Okay, so nothing at all? You haven’t even kissed?” Gemma asked, finally calming down.“Well…we showered together.” I raised my head to find both of them staring with shocked expressions, like I committed a crime or something.“So you saw all of that and didn’t want to jump his bones?” Gemma said slowly.I shrugged. “We both had a lot on our minds.”They both exchanged a look.It was Gemma’s day off, so we decided to hang by the pool. Alice, of course, expressed her displeasure but couldn’t do much about it, nor did Gemma care.“The Don’s probably suffering from blue balls right now,” Gemma muttered loudly.“You really think so?”“Yes, I do,” she exclaimed. “He doesn’t seem like the type to be unfaithful, so yes, Aria.”The thought of Dante with another woman made something twist in my chest. Which was ridiculous consideri

  • Under his protection    Chapter 31

AriaI paced the foyer while glancing at the door every few seconds, waiting for Lola. She should be here any minute now.It didn’t take much convincing for her to spend a couple of days here, which in itself was a relief. I missed her, and I was looking forward to spending time with her.And honestly, I needed the distraction. The doors opened and Victor, holding a suitcase, walked in first, with Lola trailing behind him with baby Mia strapped to her chest.Relief flooded through me.“You are here!” I rushed forward and hugged her, careful not to squeeze too close to the baby between us.“I hope your husband didn’t mind me dragging you away for a couple of days,” I added.Sadness flickered in her eyes for just a second, but she recovered quickly. Then I noticed it.The light bruise at the side of her face.“What happened to your face?” amusement leaving my voice.“Oh, it’s nothing,” she stuttered, brushing her hand over the spot. “I ran into a door while trying to pick up a crying Mi

DanteAria asked to come with me, but I insisted she didn’t. I needed to handle this myself.I got into the medical wing, and I could see most of the injured men had already been stitched up. They all bowed their heads out of respect as I walked to the end of the room. The doctor approached me, his face hard as ever, giving nothing away.“Don,” he bowed respectfully.“How is he?” I asked immediately, careful not to show too much emotion.“The bullet missed his heart by half an inch,” he replied. My jaw tightened. “But he’s fine?”A pause.“The surgery was successful,” the doctor said carefully, “but the next twenty-four hours are critical.”Anger settled in my chest.I stepped closer to the doctor.“It’s in your best interest that he survives this,” I said, my voice low so only he could hear. The doctor swallowed.“Because if he dies,” I continued quietly, “you die.”He nodded quickly and moved away.I entered the room where Adriano was currently unconscious. All the tubes connected t

AriaOn instinct, I ran toward Adriano.I didn’t know how, but I knew wanted to help. They had already surrounded him.Controlled chaos filled the space. There was nothing I could do.They rushed him past me, straight into the medical wing. The doors swung open and shut quickly behind them as the doctor barked orders, pushing everyone else back.“Out. Everyone out.”People obeyed.Everyone except Dante. He didn’t even slow down. He pushed past them and went in with Adriano.Several others were injured, some had minor cuts, others were limping, but Adriano seemed to be the one in the worst condition.I stood there, frozen, my heart pounding loudly in my ears. The hallway was packed with men waiting to hear news about Adriano's situation. But there was nothing.Minutes passed.Maybe longer. The doors opened.Dante.All eyes turned to him, expecting something, but his eyes scanned the hallway, sharp, searching for something. Then they found me.Everything else faded. He walked straight

Aria“No.” I shook my head, stepping back. “I can’t keep doing this.”My breath caught. He stepped closer.Too close.“You don’t get to run from me,” he said, his voice low, controlled and dangerous. “Not when you have no idea what you’re running into.”Anger flared through me despite the fear.“I can hide on my—”“Look how easy it was to find you,” he cut in. “You won’t last a minute without me.”“And you expect me to trust you?” I shot back. “After everything?”His eyes darkened further.“You don’t have to trust me,” he said.Another step.“You just have to stay alive.”Silence fell between us.“Why do you care?” I asked.“What?”“Yes, why do you care if I live or die?” My voice wavered, but Dante remained silent. “You barely look at me, you ignore me. You clearly don’t want me.”The words came out fast and unexpected.Maybe it was the adrenaline still running in my veins, but I felt bold.“Is that what you think?” Dante’s voice was low.He closed the distance between us completely.

  • Under his protection    Chapter 27

AriaI quickly placed the folder down, though not nearly as neatly as I had found it.“What are you doing here?” Dante said, walking towards the side of the desk where I stood. The air shifted. His gaze flickered briefly to his desk before returning to my face.He could tell something was wrong. It was important I played it smart.“I— I came to find you,” I stuttered, my voice almost betraying me.He didn’t respond immediately.Instead, he stepped closer and straightened out the folder.Of course he noticed. We were close now.Too close. It would be easy for him to read me like this, so I stepped to the other side of the desk, putting space between us.“What do you want, Aria?” His voice was calm. Flat. Unreadable.“I’m tired of staying in this house all day.”He looked at me for a moment, studying me.I struggled to remain still under his gaze, but it wasn’t casual, it was scrutinizing.“No.”The word landed harsh and final.I wasn’t having it.“What do you mean, no?”“I mean no,” he
