Chapter 4

Author: Watermelon
Harvey grew more and more agitated as he cursed, spittle flying everywhere. That crazed, unhinged display of his showed exactly what kind of ugly, pathetic man he really was.

I looked at him calmly and replied, "Since you're being so heartless, I'll pack my things right away and stop being an eyesore."

After picking up my resignation letter, I turned and walked away.

Just as I reached the door, Harvey suddenly rushed forward and grabbed my arm.

"Dana, you're still young and quite pretty, so why not just stick with me? I'll buy you designer bags, luxury cars, and have you live in a big villa."

A wave of revulsion washed over me. Before I knew it, I had grabbed the freshly brewed coffee from the desk and thrown it right at his face.

The scalding coffee streamed down his hair and suit, leaving him looking utterly pathetic and miserable.

With nothing but disgust in my eyes, I said icily, "Harvey, I used to think you had it out for me just because you were jealous of my abilities. I never imagined you harbored such filthy intentions. Wipe that perverted look off your face. I'd rather starve to death than sink to your level!"

Harvey was shaking with rage. He jabbed his finger at me viciously, spewing one vile curse after another.

I ignored his tantrum and walked briskly back to my desk to pack up my things.

My colleagues all stopped what they were doing and looked over with shock.

Bruce was the first to snap out of it. He sidled up to my workstation and said sarcastically, "Oh my, did Mr. Vance fire you? What a shame. I was just thinking that after I land the major deal, I'd treat you to a whole year's worth of instant noodles."

I couldn't be bothered to respond. After all, I was about to be free, so there was no point getting angry at such a petty person.

Seeing that I was ignoring him, Bruce plopped his butt down on my desk and looked down on me condescendingly.

"Let me make one thing clear—you're not walking out of here without doing a proper handover, or you'll live to regret it."

I opened a drawer and took out a stack of documents I had prepared in advance, tossing them at him. Inside was nothing but publicly available information one could find online and some empty, high-sounding jargon.

Meanwhile, I had already quietly taken with me the critical data such as the client contact details, Mr. Garner's personal preferences, and the specific requirements for the deal.

After flipping through the documents casually, Bruce nodded in satisfaction and sneered.

"At least you know what's good for you. But too bad you won't get the chance to ride in the new car Mr. Garner is giving me."

With that, he strutted off haughtily with the documents in his hand.

I continued packing up my personal belongings, the murmur of my colleagues' gossip an unending noise around me.

"Dana was way too impulsive. Going head-to-head with Mr. Vance never ends well."

"Yeah, I mean, even if all she got was instant noodles for her year-end bonus, she should've just sucked it up. After all, it's so hard to find a job these days."

"Honestly, she's just throwing her career away. The dividend on that 500-million-dollar deal would've been huge. Walking away from that is just plain stupid."

Paying no attention to any of it, I shoved the ten cups of instant noodles to the far edge of my desk and left them there. I wasn't about to bring that garbage home.

Once I'd packed up everything, I carried the cardboard box out into the hallway and dialed Mr. Steele's number.

"Mr. Steele, I've already resigned from Cumulus Tech, so I can officially start work tomorrow."

"That's wonderful, Dana," Mr. Stelle replied excitedly. "Your office is all set up already. It's got a great open view and comes fully equipped. Your offer letter is waiting for you too. I'll be at the office personally tomorrow to welcome you."

"Thank you, Mr. Steele." I paused, then added, "But I have one more thing to ask of you. Cumulus Tech will be holding a signing ceremony with Garner Group in three days. I'd like you to arrange for the legal and PR teams to come along. Let's head over there and give them a nice little surprise."

Mr. Steele agreed readily. "No problem. Leave everything to us. We'll make sure you make one hell of an entrance."

I hung up the phone and walked out of the Cumulus Tech building with the cardboard box in my arms. The sunlight spilled over me, warm and empowering.

I glanced back coldly at the building where I'd wasted three years of my life. As for Harvey and Bruce, I'd settle the score with them at the signing ceremony.

After Cumulus Tech went under, Harvey's hair turned white overnight, and the confidence and swagger he once carried vanished completely. He tried to leverage connections for a comeback, only to find that everyone was avoiding him like the plague. After all, no one wanted to do business with a man who had neither integrity nor scruples. He could only scrape by with odd jobs. The luxury cars and mansions of his past had all faded into fleeting memories. The name Cumulus Tech was ultimately reduced to a cautionary tale in the industry, and no one ever spoke of it again. As for me, I thrived in my position as Deputy CEO at Harbor Tech.Through my own skills and networks, I led the team from one big win to the next, and Harbor Tech's profile and influence grew with every deal. The employee support initiative I championed had helped countless talented young people who, like my former self, lacked only opportunity. It garnered unanimous praise both inside and outside the industry.I al

"What do you have to say about the fact that multiple business partners have pulled out of their partnership with you?"Harvey was completely surrounded by reporters, his face ashen. All he could do was mutter over and over, "It's not like that. This is all a misunderstanding."Bruce had already collapsed to the floor, murmuring to himself, "Impossible. This isn't really happening."Standing below the stage, Penny was shaking with fear all over. She tried to slip away but was blocked by Mr. Steele's team.I looked at her coldly and said, "Penny, don't be in such a hurry to leave. Why aren't you charging into battle for Harvey now?"Penny turned pale in the face. Her legs buckled beneath her, and she nearly crumpled to the floor."I-I didn't mean anything by it. It was all Mr. Vance—he was the one who made me do it.""You're lying!" Harvey bellowed, beside himself with rage. "You were the one who stirred everything up just to get on my good side, and now you're trying to pin it a

"Ms. Marsh was the top salesperson, yet this was the treatment she got? This company is unbelievably stingy!""It's not just stingy, is it? This is outright humiliation! How much good faith could a company this harsh to its own employees have possibly toward its clients?"The murmur of discussion rose and fell, and the expressions on the faces of the partners below all changed. Quite a few exchanged glances, their faces full of disappointment and wariness.Harvey's face flushed crimson with fury as he jabbed a finger at me and roared, "Dana, what the hell are you talking about? Your year-end bonus was docked because you repeatedly failed to clock out, which was in line with company policy."I was kind enough to buy you those instant noodles as a gesture of goodwill. And yet, you had the audacity to twist the facts now?"I chuckled coldly and took out my phone from my bag. Then, I tapped to play a recording I had prepared in advance."Everyone, take a listen for yourselves. This i

Harvey grew more and more impassioned as he spoke."Of course, none of this would have been possible without my keen eye for talent. It was precisely because I made the decisive move to reassign the project lead that things turned around, ultimately securing this great honor for Cumulus Tech."A scattering of applause rippled through the room, and many in the audience wore perfunctory smiles.Harvey, however, didn't care at all and gestured for Bruce to come onto the stage."And now, let's give our warmest round of applause to welcome Bruce onto the stage as we join Mr. Garner from Garner Group for this historic signing."Bruce walked onto the stage with his head held high and his chest puffed out. Just as he was about to speak, the ballroom doors suddenly swung open, and the sound of orderly footsteps echoed through the room.Mr. Steele strode in with Harbor Tech's legal and PR teams, flanking Mr. Garner as they made their entrance. In an instant, all eyes were drawn to them, a

Three days later, Cumulus Tech held the signing ceremony at the most luxurious hotel in the city center, the Adonis Hotel. The event was staged with enormous fanfare.Harvey had booked the largest ballroom. The place was decked out with a red carpet, overflowing with fresh flowers and lush greenery, and he had even hired a band for a live performance. Not only had he invited trade media and key clients from all over the city, but he also brought in relevant officials from the district. It was clear he intended to use this 500-million-dollar mega deal to thoroughly establish his authority in the industry and boost the company's profile. With flawless makeup and a tailored black suit dress, I walked calmly into the ballroom.Just then, Harvey's voice came from nearby."Well, well, if it isn't our former employee, Dana Marsh?"He deliberately raised his volume, drawing the attention of the other guests to me."What's the matter?
