Samantha finished scrubbing the bathroom until every trace of blood was gone. The ruined shirt went on top of the hamper—she’d burn it later. No way was she tossing anything in the trash that could drag her deeper into whatever this was. She was done thinking about it. Right now, all she wanted was her bath and then sleep.

She filled the tub, dumped in bath salts, got the water just the right kind of warm. Samantha stripped and slid in, letting the water wrap around her like a hug she desperately needed.

She tried to relax, but her mind wouldn’t let go of the man. The whole night felt like some bad movie. Her life used to be quiet—bills to pay, a messy love life, nothing she couldn’t handle. Now she’d stumbled into something that made money problems and heartbreak look like a joke.

What really gnawed at her was the mafia thing. It was too much. If she kept replaying it, she was going to lose her mind.

She sank under the water for a few seconds, wishing the noise in her head would just

  • Unexpected Encounter   Heating Things Up

The door clicked shut, and Adam pinned Samantha against it. The kisses turned hotter, more urgent. Ever since he’d watched her tend to him that night, he’d wanted to taste those lips. He’d almost done it in the hospital, but here, now, he could finally explore every inch of them.Samantha felt his arousal—hard and insistent against her as he pressed closer. Adam untied the robe’s belt with one tug, sliding it off her shoulders without breaking the kiss. His hands found her waist again, guiding her backward until the bed hit the back of her knees. He eased her down onto the mattress. He pulled back just long enough to look at her—spread out on his bed, chest rising fast with every breath, thick thighs bare, slim waist accentuated by the silk nightgown riding up.The sight of her like that was pure fire.Samantha gazed at him with pure lust. It was thrilling to see that raw desire in his eyes. It felt good—damn good—to know someone could want her this badly. She could see the obvious bu

  • Unexpected Encounter   First Kiss

Samantha swallowed hard at the tease. It had definitely landed, but she wasn’t about to let him see how much she wanted him—even as the question flashed through her mind: was it mutual?“I wasn’t staring at you. I was looking at the kitchen. It’s really nice,” she blurted, the only excuse her brain could cough up.Adam’s lips curved into a knowing smile. He didn’t push. He could read people like open books, and right then he knew she was lying. The truth was all over her: his closeness, his words—they’d lit her up.“Fair enough. Look all you want. And feel free to explore it anytime,” he said, the grin downright wicked. She grabbed the plate in front of her and took a bite of the sandwich, mostly to hide behind it.Adam turned back to the fridge, putting things away, then pulled out a carton of milk and two glasses.Adam warmed the two glasses of milk in the microwave until they were nice and cozy. He set one in front of Samantha and the other next to his plate, then slid onto the sto

  • Unexpected Encounter   Midnight Snack

Adam left Samantha’s room and went straight to his own. He poured himself a glass of whiskey from the side table and walked to the window. Standing there, his mind drifted back to that night—her hands carefully cleaning the blood from his stomach. He could still picture her face up close: the way she’d blush and get flustered whenever he pushed a little too far. A smile tugged at his lips before he could stop it.He closed his eyes and shook his head, trying to shut it down. He was scared of falling for Samantha. And honestly, it wouldn’t take much. But the fear of getting burned again was louder. He remembered meeting Sabrina—how sweet and shy she’d seemed at first, only to turn into someone completely different. He didn’t think he could handle another disappointment like that. His love life had never been great. There was always someone on his arm, but never for *him*—just for who he was and what he could give them. In the end, keeping anyone real close with the life he led wasn’t e

  • Unexpected Encounter   Approved

The doctor had arrived, and Sophia led him straight to Samantha’s room. She waited outside while he stitched her up.The second the door opened, Sophia jumped in.“Is she okay?”“Yeah, the arm needed a few stitches, but nothing serious. I left a mild sedative in case she can’t sleep. She seemed pretty shaken and scared—just trying not to show it,” the doctor said.“Got it, Doc. I’ll talk to her. Maybe she needs to vent. But I’ll walk you out.”“No need, sweetheart. I know this house like the back of my hand. Stay with her. I can find the door,” Carlos said with a warm smile.Sophia smiled back and said goodbye. She knocked lightly on the bedroom door and slipped inside.Samantha was sitting on the edge of the bed, staring at the floor.“So… everything good?” Sophia asked, easing into the conversation as she sat beside her.“Yeah. He prescribed anti-inflammatory and painkillers. It’ll heal fast.” Samantha paused, then added, “There’s something I’ve been wondering about, but I keep forg

  • Unexpected Encounter   Feeling Special

Adam paced back and forth, restless. The thought of Samantha getting hurt because of him was eating him alive. Worst of all, the guilt—he knew it was his fault. If he hadn’t flagged her down that night and forced his way into her car, none of this would be happening. But then another thought slipped in: if it hadn’t been for that exact mess, he never would’ve met her.“Calm down, Adam. You’re gonna give yourself a heart attack,” Sophia said.“They should be here any minute, and Doc Carlos too. I called him like you asked,” Caio added.Adam went to the window again, staring out like he could will the car to appear. Caio and Sophia exchanged a quick glance. He looked away fast. Every time their eyes met, he felt exposed. She was beautiful, and being secretly in love with her made him terrified he’d give something away—and she’d tell Adam.Caio stepped back and dropped into a chair. Standing there stressing wasn’t going to make them arrive any faster. The irony? The people waiting anxiou

  • Unexpected Encounter   Gathering Information

Sabrina stormed into Oliver’s apartment, already fuming. He hadn’t come to pick her up himself—just sent his goons.“How could you not come get me from that clinic, Oliver? You sent your lackeys? Is that how you’re gonna treat me now?” she snapped, voice loud and sharp.Oliver shot up from his chair and clamped a hand around her throat in one fluid move.“Who the hell do you think you are, talking to me like that? Just because you spread your legs for me doesn’t mean you get to mouth off whenever you feel like it. Don’t kid yourself thinking you’re anything special. I put you in my bed—I can kick you out just as fast.”He let go. Red marks bloomed where his fingers had been. She coughed hard, hand flying to her neck.“Now get out of my sight. Guest room tonight. I don’t want you anywhere near my bed,” he said, dropping back into his seat like nothing had happened. She stormed into the guest room just like he’d ordered, still clutching her throat where the red marks lingered. Oliver wa
