Chloe smiled at Elijah before getting into his car. Her smile was so genuine and captivating that, for some reason, it almost made Ruan fall to his knees.

He couldn’t stop staring at them until they finally drove away.

Ruan wanted to break something. He wanted to run after them and drag Chloe away from that man. He wanted to destroy him for making him furious, for standing next to his ex-wife.

“How long are you going to stand in the doorway?” Grace’s voice pulled him back. He hadn’t even noticed her arrival. “Please say goodbye to Christopher and leave.”

Ruan shifted his gaze to her, his mind clouded with anger and confusion.

“Is this how things will be between us from now on?”

“You destroyed my best friend—how did you expect me to react?”

“She doesn’t look destroyed.” He looked back at the empty spot where Chloe had stood minutes earlier, his mind boiling. “Chloe looked pretty happy next to another man.”

The guilt devoured him, even more when Grace mocked his words. Ruan wasn’t ready

  • Unexpected Marriage: The night that changed my life   Chapter 56

Ruan was on his way to work when he got a call from Grace that morning. He drove through the streets, irritated, his mind replaying Megan’s behavior. He had woken up, and she wasn’t home. The messy bed revealed the rough night they’d had. It felt strange to be beside the woman he loved without being able to touch her. They didn’t even kiss anymore or share the same bed.He called her several times, but Megan didn’t answer any of his calls. It was too early for her to be at work, and Ruan sensed something was wrong. Megan had never been temperamental, never violent like she’d been the night before. He pulled the car over to answer the call. When Grace’s voice echoed on the other end of the line, Ruan instantly knew something serious had happened to Chloe.“I’m taking Chris to school, but Chloe is badly hurt. You need to come to the hospital and see her.”Ending the call, Ruan turned the car around and sped toward the hospital. His chest burned as he imagined Chloe in danger. He didn’t

When Chloe looked at her hands, they were bleeding. She tried to ignore the bitter taste in her mouth as she put the phone to her ear to speak with the attendant.“I need to file a complaint.” Her eyes filled with tears as she looked at Josephine, who was still standing bravely in front of her. “I was assaulted inside my house. Please send a patrol car.”She heard Grace shouting while running toward her. Grace held her face with both hands, grimacing at what she saw. Her eyes fell on Josephine. Chloe was certain she had never seen Grace so furious at someone before.“You damn woman.” Grace closed her eyes, rehearsing a charge toward Josephine, but Chloe stopped her.“I already called the police,” she said, when Josephine’s eyes widened and she stumbled back, disappearing behind the door.Josephine had really believed Chloe would never have the courage to report her. At first, she thought Chloe was bluffing, but when she saw the confidence on Chloe’s face, Josephine feared the worst. S

Megan’s lips pressed into a thin, tight line as she left the house before sunrise. She had seen Ruan sleeping in the guest room before she walked out, and the remnants of last night’s fight still littered the dining room floor. She felt as if the world had closed in around her. Before everything happened, she had been the woman he loved most, and no one had ever come between them—until Chloe slept with Ruan on the eve of their wedding. He had never stopped loving her, not even during the six years they had been apart. But now, for the first time, things felt different. Someone had stepped between them, stealing all of Ruan’s love and attention. Megan felt she couldn’t bear it. When she returned to Phoenix, she had decided to fight for him and take back what Chloe had destroyed. On tiptoe, she slipped outside, waited for the car to pull up, and climbed in. Behind the wheel sat Josephine, her face bare of makeup, a sharp line of irritation etched into her forehead.“What was so time-sen

The heat in Phoenix was unbearable, but Chloe’s body trembled as if she stood in freezing weather below zero. Her hands sweated, and she couldn’t stop thinking about the surprise on Ruan’s face when he saw her with another man.“Why on earth was she thinking about Ruan?”Elijah sat across from her, reading the menu while she thought about her ex-husband. She needed to focus on that moment and live her life exactly as Ruan had done. She lifted her chin, wiped her hands on her dress, and picked up the menu to choose her dish. When she raised her eyes, she found Elijah staring at her in a way that made her cheeks burn with shame.“I hadn’t realized how beautiful you are,” he said with a smile before adding, “I should be choosing tonight’s meal, but I can’t stop looking at you.”Chloe’s lips trembled. No man had ever spoken such sincere words to her, and they made her heart sink in her chest, leaving her with no reaction at all.She didn’t even know how to respond.Chloe’s cheeks grew so

The sweaty hand ran through his messy hair. Beads of sweat glistened on Ruan’s face the moment his eyes fell on Chloe, standing right in front of him. In six years of marriage, he had never seen her so beautiful. She had never dressed up like this for him. Her full lips wore a bold layer of red lipstick. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes perfectly defined. The low-cut dress revealed far more than just her neck. His gaze dropped to her thick legs—the part of her body he loved the most. Now that they were exposed, his breath caught in his throat.“What are you doing here?” Chloe whispered, stepping forward and shutting the door firmly behind her.She faltered mid-step when she realized she had gotten too close to him. Chloe’s dark eyes now looked distant, and Ruan searched in silence for the woman who had once loved him madly. There was no trace of that love.“We need to talk.” Chloe’s eyes held no warmth as she focused on him.“I have nothing to talk about with you.” She acted as if he
