Kristoff’s POV

The moment the safe clicked open, my breath stalled.

I hadn’t touched this thing in weeks. Maybe months. Not since the last time I reorganized everything inside, lining documents in the neat order I always preferred—clean, precise, untampered.

But now… something felt wrong.

A thin, sharp energy crawled up my neck as I pulled the first file out.

My real birth certificate sat at the top.

I froze.

I hadn’t seen this document in years. I kept it tucked deep, not because I needed it but because I hated what it represented… my father’s rejection, the name I was never allowed to claim, the identity I had to build myself without anyone’s help.

Why was it here?

On top?

Who moved it?

I flipped quickly through the other sheets beneath it. Everything looked familiar, yet the arrangement felt… off. Someone had touched it. Someone had gone through my things.

Rissa?

For a heartbeat, my jaw locked. She was the only one who knew the passcode. But I had changed it after the last time she

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 252: Almost the Taste of Freedom

Rissa’s POVThe room smelled like damp concrete and metal.I didn’t notice it at first. My body was too busy hurting. My head throbbed in slow, brutal pulses, each one reminding me of the vase… the floor… the blood. My wrists burned where the cuffs bit into my skin, chained to the side of the bed like I was some kind of animal.I lay still. Not because I wanted to.Because I had learned something in the last few hours… panic wasted energy, and energy was the only thing I had left.Kristoff hadn’t come back. That was the first blessing. The second was the silence. No voices. No footsteps. Just the low hum of something mechanical somewhere above me. A generator, maybe. Or a vent.Basement.That thought settled in my chest like a stone.I tested the cuffs again, slower this time. Metal against metal. Solid. No give. The bed frame was bolted to the floor. Of course it was.He hadn’t just snapped. He had planned. The door creaked. My breath caught instantly, every muscle locking.I closed

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 251: Hidden in plain sight

Alex’s POVBy the third time I rang the bell, my patience was already shredded. The Quinn crest gleamed on the gate like a mockery, polished and proud, while the house behind it sat too quiet. Too still. No movement behind the tall windows. No signs of life. Just silence.“She should be here,” my mother said beside me, her voice tight with restraint. “Rissa doesn’t disappear without telling someone.”“I know,” I muttered, pressing the bell again…longer this time. Harder.Still nothing.A bad feeling curled low in my gut, heavy and sharp. The kind that didn’t come from fear alone, but instinct. The kind that told you something had already gone wrong.Just as I was about to knock, the door finally opened.Kristoff stood there.Perfectly composed. Shirt crisp. Expression mildly inconvenienced, like we were interrupting his afternoon tea instead of standing at his doorstep demanding answers.“Alex,” he said smoothly. “Mrs. Quinn. This is unexpected.”“Where is my sister?” I asked immediat

Kristoff’s POVWe stared at each other. No shouting. No movement. Just silence stretching thin between us like a wire pulled too tight.Rissa’s eyes were open now…fully awake, fully aware and what stared back at me wasn’t fear. Not yet.It was hate.Pure, unfiltered hatred burned where love once lived. I recognized it instantly, not because I’d seen it before, but because I’d spent my entire life provoking it. From men who thought they were stronger. From women who thought they were smarter. From people who realized too late that they had underestimated me.Rissa’s hatred should have moved something in me.It didn’t.She lay restrained on the bed, one wrist cuffed to the metal rail, the other free but useless. A thin bandage wrapped her head where the vase had connected. Dried blood darkened the edge of the gauze. Her breathing was shallow, controlled…she was trying not to give me the satisfaction of panic.I admired that.I stepped closer, slow and deliberate, until I stood beside th

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 249: “Ohh… Fuck”

Kristoff’s POVThe car door slammed harder than it needed to.I was already halfway out before the echo died, my feet hitting the gravel as if I could outrun the tension clinging to my skin. The drive back had been unbearable…too quiet, too heavy. Rissa hadn’t said a word, and that silence had gnawed at me worse than any accusation.I headed straight for the steps. If I could just get inside, get upstairs, shut a door between us…“Kristoff.”Her voice cut through me.I froze. For a second, I considered pretending I hadn’t heard her. But that would only confirm whatever suspicions were already circling in her head. Slowly, I turned around. She stood a few feet behind me, arms folded tightly over her chest. Her face wasn’t angry. It was worse…confused, wounded, searching.“What were you doing at the hospital?” she asked. “And don’t lie to me.”I forced a smile onto my face, the familiar one. The one that had always worked. “Rissa, now’s not the time. I had business to settle…”“With my

Mrs. Quinn’s POVI stood where I was long after Kristoff’s car disappeared from the hospital driveway. The wind brushed past me, but it did nothing to cool the heat crawling beneath my skin. I watched the empty road, my nails digging into my palm as one truth settled heavily in my chest.Kristoff Hale was up to something.I had sensed it the moment he walked out of my husband’s room with that file tucked so confidently under his arm. Too calm. Too prepared. And that nurse…there was no way she had just happened to be there.I had thought Kristoff would be manageable. Another ambitious man dazzled by power, easily guided as long as he felt included. We had given him access, protection, even influence. In return, he was supposed to help us deal with Anna. Not turn the game around on us.I exhaled slowly and turned back toward the hospital. If Kristoff was making moves, then I needed answers…fast. And the first person who could give them to me was that nurse.Inside, I headed straight for

Kristoff’s POVI intercepted Nurse Bianca near the elevator bank before she could slip away. She flinched when she saw me, her steps slowing, then stopping altogether. Her eyes darted to the corridor, to the nurses’ station, to the security camera mounted high on the wall.“Relax,” I said quietly. “We’re done here.”Her shoulders sagged, but the tension didn’t leave her face. “Mrs. Quinn came back,” she whispered. “She asked me questions. About why I was in the room. About the documents.”I smiled, slow and measured. “And?”“I told her I was assisting with routine observation. She didn’t believe me.”“She doesn’t have to,” I replied. “She just needs to stop digging.”Bianca swallowed. “So what happens now?”I stepped closer, lowering my voice. “Now you take a leave. Effective immediately.”Her brows knitted together. “A leave?”“Yes. Medical. Family emergency. Emotional exhaustion. Pick whatever excuse sounds most convincing.” I met her eyes. “You stay away until Mr. Quinn is discharg
