Alex’s POV

“I’m fine.”

Her voice was soft, but the lie wrapped around my throat like a vice. Her eyes didn’t match her words, the way they darted away from mine instantly, the small tremor in her lips. She wasn’t fine.

Especially after what happened last night. Not after I kissed her… not after I almost lost her.

Before I could say a word, Annalyn cleared her throat, her gaze flickering towards Nolan like a lifeline. “I should… I should check on something.” Her voice cracked slightly, and she didn’t wait for my response.

She left.

I wanted to stop her, that would mean forcing a conversation I wasn’t ready to have… but fear anchored me down. Not fear of her, fear of what I was becoming, Fear from what I felt when I was around her. Of these twisted, uncontrollable feelings that tangled themselves around my chest every time I looked at her.

The door clicked shut behind her, and I was alone with Nolan, who had curled into my side, his small arms wrapping around my torso. He s

Annalyn’s POVFor a week now, I had mastered the art of disappearing before Alex came into the room.If Nolan was with him, I always had the perfect excuse to run.. I’d drown myself in laundry, grocery run, some sudden errands here and there. Anything to avoid the way my chest still tightened every time I saw him… and especially to avoid the lingering image of Marlene’s lips on his. That memory had clawed itself so deeply into me I could feel it even when I closed my eyes.So I buried myself in safe routines: cooking, cleaning, and keeping Nolan busy.Today is no different. I’m standing in the kitchen, stirring the pot of soup for lunch while praying Alex would come take his meal when I’m out of the kitchen, I didn’t feel the need to complicate things. I needed my peace, but however, it was short-lived.“Mommyyyy!” Nolan’s small voice chirped before his little feet padded quickly into the kitchen. He was clutching a stack of papers, eyes bright like he had just discovered gold.“Whoa

Annalyn’s POVNolan’s soft breathing evened out as I tucked the blanket around his tiny shoulders. I sat on the edge of his bed, running my hand gently over his hair. My mind was a mess… Alex, that kiss, that woman but for this boy, I needed to hold myself together.“Mummy?”His voice pulled me back. I smiled, pushing the chaos in my chest down. “Yes, baby?”Nolan sat up halfway, rubbing his eyes. “Why is Grandma always being a meanie?”A soft laugh escaped me despite the knot in my throat. “Meanie? That’s a harsh word to use on Grandma, don’t you think?”But Nolan’s little nose scrunched up. “But she is.”I cupped his warm cheeks, forcing myself to stay calm for him. “You know, Grandma’s just… not happy with Mummy because Mummy put Daddy in a bad condition.”His brows furrowed. “Really?”“Yes.” I smiled sadly. “If Nolan was in trouble because of Daddy, Grandma would be angry at Daddy too, because she loves you so much. That’s how she feels about Daddy… and me. Okay?”He nodded slowly

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 55: Collateral Damage

Alex’s POVI turned toward the door, gripping my fork so hard that my knuckles turned white. Lo and behold there she was. My mother. Mrs. Hilda Quinn. The formidable Matriarch of the Quinn’s family, dressed in a white fur long dress. Her white leather gloves to match and blue Burkin purse to match. She stood at the door way like an angel with her face glowing in smiles. She took cautious steps down the mini stairs and right behind her… Marlene! My entire body tensed at the sight of her tall frame stepping through the threshold like she still belonged In my life. Like she hadn’t betrayed me Seven years ago.“Hi Lexy!” Marlene’s sugary voice grated against my eardrums. Her hand fluttered in the air in a ridiculous wave, those long, fake nails catching the light like claws.I gave her a stiff nod, more out of courtesy than desire. Then I turned back to my food. Knife to chicken. Focus.“My dear boy…” My mother’s voice was sickeningly sweet, the kind she reserved for her fleets of fake

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 54: “Welcome Home”

Alex’s POVFor the first time in weeks, I woke up without the weight of regret suffocating me. No rage clawing at my chest. No ghosts of decisions past rattling the walls of my mind. Just the quiet hum of hospital monitors and the faint scent of disinfectant. Peace which still felt fragile though, but present.Last night had moved something in me. Sitting on that rooftop with Annalyn under a sky full of stars, sharing casual talks void of tension and buried deep in healing silences, had felt like unlocking a part of myself I’d forgotten existed. Vulnerability had never been my comfort zone, but with her, I didn’t feel exposed. I felt seen. Now, sunlight spilled through the blinds as Annalyn moved around the room, folding the last of my clothes into a duffel. I watched her in silence, memorizing the ease of her movements, the calm on her face. She didn’t know I was watching or maybe she did and didn’t mind anymore. She turned, brushing her hands against her thighs. “We’re all set, sir

Annalyn’s POVThe mop swished softly beneath my feet as I pushed it across the tiled floor of Alex’s hospital room, the scent of antiseptic lingering in the air. I’d wiped every surface twice already, yet I couldn’t stop. Cleaning distracted me… or maybe I was just trying to silence my own mind. It had been over two hours since I wheeled Alex to the doctor’s office. Two. Whole. Hours. He should’ve been back by now.I paused, hands gripping the mop, eyes drifting toward the window where the sky had begun to change colors. My thoughts wandered, briefly ro the tensed moment with Alex earlier.. I had fallen into Alex’s body.It was an accident. I was just trying to help him into the wheelchair, but I completely lost balance and landed right on him. The warmth radiating from his body against mine was intense, I could hear his heart pounding into my ears… the slight intake of his breath was enough to send electricity zipping through every nerve in me. And then his eyes…Those green eyes…T

  • Falling For My Ex’s Brother-In-Law   Chapter 52: “The sparks”

Annalyn’s POVI sat on the cold hospital bench, head bowed, one hand over my forehead as my thoughts spiraled in painful loops. Was any of this even worth it? The slap still tingled on my cheek, but the sting ran deeper than skin. Shame. Helplessness. Rage. They all churned inside me. The hallway was quiet, but my heart pounded like war drums in my chest. The door creaked.I lifted my head quickly, wiping my face with the back of my hand. Clarissa stepped out.I shot to my feet immediately, unsure if I should say something, run, or just disappear altogether. But then… she smiled. A full, open, sincere smile as she walked toward me. She gestured toward the bench, and I sat slowly. She joined me, not saying anything at first… just sitting close enough for comfort but far enough to not smother me.“I’m really sorry for what happened earlier,” she said softly. “About my mother. That slap… she had no right.”I shook my head, eyes low. “No… I understand. No mother would be calm seeing her s
