Lisa was still in Ken's house, folding the last set of clothes she had washed the night before when her phone buzzed on the bed. She wiped her damp hands on the towel around her waist and reached for it, expecting a message from Ken. Instead, her eyes narrowed as she read the words on her screen.

“Lisa, we need to talk. Please come.”

It was from Faith.

Something about the short message unsettled her. Faith rarely wrote like that. Lisa read it again, her chest tightening. Whatever was going on, it wasn't small. She quickly rounded up with what she was doing, packed her things, and left.

She drove to her own place first, changed into something simple, retouched her face and then headed straight to Faith's apartment. The drive felt unusually long. Her thoughts kept drifting…was Faith sick? Did something happen to the baby? She prayed silently under her breath until she arrived.

Chapter Fourteen: The Urgent NewsLisa was still rubbing Bella’s mother’s back, trying to calm her, but the coughing wouldn’t stop. It grew harsher, deeper, like something was stuck in her chest. Lisa’s worry turned into full-blown panic.“Ma, please, what is happening to you?” Lisa asked, her voice trembling. The woman tried to respond, her lips moving, but before the words could form, her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed onto the couch.“Jesus!” Lisa screamed, leaping to her feet. Her heart pounded so hard it felt like it would burst out of her chest. She shook the older woman gently, but there was no response. Fear swept over her like a flood. She grabbed her phone and quickly dialed Bella, but the line didn’t connect. She tried again, and again…still nothing. “Oh, God! What do I do now?” Lisa muttered, panic rising in her chest. The woman’s house girl ran into the sitting room at the sound of Lisa’s cry. Together, they struggled to lift her limp body. Chapter Thirteen: A Mother’s BurdenWhen Lisa left Faith’s house that evening, her mind was still heavy with everything Faith had told her. She prayed quietly that the man would not do anything foolish. Around 8 o’clock, she picked up her phone and dialed Faith’s number just to check on her.“Hello, babe,” Lisa said as soon as Faith picked up. “How are you now? Hope you’re not still crying.”Faith’s voice was softer than it had been earlier, though still heavy. “I’m better, thanks to you. I’ve just been lying down.”Lisa smiled a little. “Good. You need to calm yourself. Don’t let stress affect the baby, okay? I don’t want my goddaughter to be angry with you.”Faith chuckled faintly. “You and this your goddaughter matter, ehn.”Lisa laughed along, happy to hear her friend at least smile through her voice. They talked for a while, Lisa trying her best to lighten her mood. Faith admitted she had eaten a little, and Lisa praised her like a child, which made her laugh again. After a pause,

Lisa left the pleasure park that evening with a smile tugging at her lips. The day had been long, yet there was something about knowing she was going to see Ken that gave her a strange excitement. They had promised to meet, and no matter how much she tried to downplay it in her mind, she always looked forward to their time together.By the time she got to his apartment and stepped into his setting room, she was ready to greet him properly, but before she could even settle in, Ken raised out from nowhere and grabbed her hand.“ Lisa, quick, come,” he whispered as though something dreadful had happened. She blinked at him in shock. “Ken, what is it?
