Kristina

Oh God. My breath hangs in my throat as he walks towards the podium.

At this point, everyone has their eyes on him. As soon as he gets to me, he smiles broadly.

“Could you make way, darling? That's my seat.” He says,

Oh-

I scoot, giving him space to move in.

He takes his seat, and the officiating minister continues.

Soon enough, the holy matrimony is over.

My sister is officially married.

My heart tugs again, but I wave it off.

I am about to get off my seat when I hear Sergei’s voice.

“You did a good job with the event.”

I turn to him, “Is your compliment supposed to make my entire day?”

“No, it's supposed to wet that little spot between your legs.”

“Very funny,”

With a hiss, I get off my seat, and walk away.

We have thirty minutes before the reception begins. I walk up to Lori's room. She is immediately switching into her party dress.

“Hey pretty,” I say to her with a wide smile.

She beams as soon as she sees me. “Hi! The wedding is going so perfectly!”

“I know, I made sure of it.”

She wraps her arms around me, “thank you! Thank you so much!”

“It's alright.” I reply, patting her back.

“Who was that man?” She asks with a frown, “the one that nearly disrupted our wedding.”

“Who?” I ask, pretending not to know.

“The one that came in during the vows, and nearly ruined everything.”

“Oh- He's just a guest with the wrong timing. It's nothing to worry about.”

Only that it was indeed something to be worried about. How Sergei got not only an invite but a seat at the front row behind my back was still news to me.

“Callum said he wants to speak to you though, something about cancelling an event or so,” she says, pulling me out of my trance.

“Um, I'll go see him now.” I respond, wavering out of the room.

As soon as I get to Cal's door, I can hear him barking orders at the workers.

I knock gently.

“Come in,”

His eyes brighten up as soon as he sees me.

“Hi,” I whisper,

“Everyone get out of the room.” He barks at them.

Without a word, they scoot out of the room.

He closes the gap between us.

“My baby…”he says, taking my hand.

I smile gently.

He places a gentle kiss on both my knuckles.

“We can't keep doing this…”I whisper, feeling the tears drop down to my cheeks.

He wipes my face with his palms.

“There's no need to cry, baby.” He says,

His voice is so soft, and comforting that all I want is to melt in his arms.

“I can't stop it.” I respond, taking my hand off his, and wiping my face. “Lori is out there so joyous, having the perfect wedding, and I am-I-I-”

He breaks my train of thoughts as he places his lips on mine.

At first, I stiffen trying to resist, but soon enough, I melt into the warmth of his soft lips.

“Does that make it any better?” He asks, touching my hair.

His eyes glisten as he stares at me. “Look, we might not officially be together, but believe me, I love you. With all of my heart, I do.”

I nod.

“Thank you,”

“It's alright, baby. Anytime you need reassurance, just let me know. I know it's hard for you dealing with this today, but just know that this marriage is for two years only. After that, we can be together.”

I wipe my eyes gently. “It's alright. I need to head out anyway. It's almost time for the reception, and I've not gotten everything checked out.”

“Are you sure you don't want to stay here for a while?”

I shake my head, “I'd rather not.”

He lets go off my shoulders.

I am already at the door when I turn around to speak to him, “at the altar today, that should've been us,” I whisper one last time before I walk out.

As soon as I step out, I hurriedly walk down the hall with my chin up high. I stop in my tracks as soon as I see him.

“You!” I charge towards him, picking the bottom of my dress.

“Calm down,” he chuckles, crossing his arms over his chest.

“What's funny?!” I bark, “you nearly ruined that wedding!”

“Why are you so upset? Wouldn't that be your greatest dream?”

“Tone your voice down!”

“Fine,” he agrees, covering the distance between us.

He is standing so close to me that I can feel the intensity of his cologne.

He bends down until our nose nearly touches, “is this close enough for you, darling?”

I pause, unable to breathe or think properly.

With a deep chuckle, he takes a deep breath. “You should get going, I'm sure someone's wedding depends on you.”

I narrow my eyes on him, feeling the anger rising again.

“Run along,” he says, demonstrating with his fingers.

Without another word, I stomp away.

As soon as I am out of sight, I touch my neck slightly.

How did I let him get such control over me?

Sucking in my teeth, I walk towards the kitchen.

I am welcomed by the heavenly aroma.

This has to be good.

In no time, the reception begins.

I watch as the bride and groom take their first dance alone.

After that, a number of people begin to take the stage.

I stand by the side, monitoring the environment. So far, there has been no interruptions. This is good.

I look around one last time for any sign of Sergei, but there's none. Good. Very good.

I begin counting the number of guests, when I feel a cold presence behind me.

I turn around, and of course there's that giant, annoying man there.

“You came,”

“I heard you kept looking around, searching for me.”

I purposely roll my eyes, giving him the opportunity to see it.

“Don't pretend you're not weak in the knees by my presence,”

“If anything, I want to stab you with this pen.”

He holds my hand, and presses the pen on his chest.

“What are you doing?” I ask, trying to let my hand go.

“Let go of the pen,” he says,

I let go.

He shoves it in his pocket.

“Give me the notepad.”

“Why?”

“Because you wouldn't like to cause a scene, and ruin your sister's wedding.”

I hand it over.

He drops it by the nearest table.

“Would you do me the honor of dancing with me?” He asks,

“I'd rather be shot dead.”

“I have a gun here, we can test that theory.” He teases,

I want to call his bluff, but I know better than to be stupid enough to think he won't do it.

“Fine. One dance.”

A smile creeps up his devious face. “That's perfect.”

He takes me to the dance floor.

I can feel everyone's eyes on us as we dance. My body is pressed on his as we move in a patterned movement.

I catch a glimpse of Lori, and to my surprise, she is beaming. She mouths wow to me, and I smile.

Cal has an obvious frown on his face, and his jaw is locked.

I turn back to Sergei, avoiding his gaze.

The song comes to an end, and just as I am about to peel myself off Sergei, he does the most ridiculous thing known to mankind.

He places his lips on mine.

I in turn follow his stupidity as I lean into his kiss, giving him way.

KRIS My heart swells at the sound of applause. Their hands clap and they smile gently. I stare at everyone, unable to believe it. Me. Corporate development manager. Who in the world would have thought it possible?I turn to Callum, and I can already feel the tears at the bottom of my eyes.“Thank you,” I whisper,“You deserve it,” he responds without a twitch of his jaw.I walk to the table, and for the first time, I take a seat.It feels surreal sitting at a table I never thought I'd be qualified for.“Now that we're done with that, I would also like to announce that Ms Kristina will be in charge of the strategies to combat our new opposition. I'd like to believe that no one knows a woman better than her fellow woman, hence the addition to this board.” He explains, then turns to me, “you won't disappoint me, will you?” He asksI shake my head immediately, “not at all. I'll step on it as soon as I can.”He nods in approval.I push the thoughts out of my head as he begins to speak.

  • Unholy Desires   A new vice

KRISIt's quite embarrassing actually. The way, I'm prepping my best suit just because my brother-in-law will be at the board's meeting. It's nothing special, I know.I have been invited to a number of impromptu board meetings, and from experience, I can say, it's either someone is leaving, or someone is about to be added to fill an empty space on board, or both.I shrug my shoulders. It doesn't involve me. I pick out my navy blue suit jacket, and throw it over my shoulders. In compliance, I equally pick out my black set of Versace shoes. As soon as I'm done dressing up, I pick up my bag, and head to the Uber already waiting for me.It takes less than twenty minutes to maneuver through traffic, and end up at my office. As I walk in, I notice how quiet the environment is. You can easily tell when Callum's presence abodes, it breeds silence.I walk up to my office, drop my bag, and pick up my notebook.Right before walking out, I remain fixed in one position as I inhale a fresh breath

  • Unholy Desires   A suspicion.

KRISHe has no right to be angry. Truly, he doesn't. He's sitting across the table with his hands over my sister, and they're both wearing their wedding rings. He's taken. He's not mine, and I will never be his. I have no reason to feel bad for wanting my own person.“Good evening,” Sergei says to my father, and the sound of his voice pulls me from my thoughts.I can see the surprise on my father's face, but it's absolutely impossible to tell if he's surprised I have someone or if it's the Russian accent rolling off Sergei's tongue.Nevertheless, my father grabs his hand, and they hold a tight handshake.“Good evening. Who are you?” He asks,“Pardon my late entry, I am Sergei Rachmaninoff, and I have a current interest in your daughter.” He says with a smile,“Lori?” He asks with a raised brow.I close my eyes, absorbing the embarrassment.Sergei simply laughs it off, “Of course not. She's married to a wonderful man.” He takes my hand, then turns to me, “darling, you've never told y

KRISI pick out my hand bag, and by the time I get to the Sergei is already waiting for me with flowers in hand.“What are the flowers for?” I ask, stunned.“I'm sure your father wouldn't want you with a man that doesn't get you flowers for every date.” He says, giving them to me.There's no ounce of romance in what he has done, but it's still nice. I haven't received flowers as a random gesture in months, and while it is a change, but I don't let him know.“Thank you,” I thank him, “I love roses.”“Let's get going, shall we?” I nod.He opens the door, and leads me out of the apartment. As soon as we get into the car, I drop the bouquet on the car seat, creating a spacing between us. He respects it, and the drive is silent. We finally arrive at the restaurant just ten minutes after nine.Sergei, and I are about to step down when he receives a call.“Give me a minute,” he whispers,I remain seated, clacking my fingers on my bag. It is one thing for my father to meet Sergei, but it's

  • Unholy Desires   You win.

KRISHe pushes open the door gently, and walks in.My eyes fall on his finger immediately. He's wearing his wedding ring.“Good morning,” he says,As soon as he notices where my attention is at, he places his hand into the pocket of his joggers.“Good morning,” I respond, facing the papers immediately. My heart is steadily drumming against my chest, and I don't even think I can bear seeing his face for one more minute.“How are you?” He asks,This time he isn't the proud, arrogant boss I've grown to know. He is soft, and careful, trying not to cross the line.“I'm fine. How was your wedding night?” He doesn't respond.I look up to find him watching me. “How was it?” I push further,“Let's not talk about that,” he says, taking a seat.He has returned to his original self.“Yes, you're right.” I agree, closing the file. “Let's talk about the pile of work we have left,”“No, not that.”“Okay. Then let's talk about why after I cleared your schedule for two weeks straight, you went ahead

  • Unholy Desires   Dear Lord

KRISI spent the entire night coddled between the sheets in my cold room. For the first time in a long while, I noticed the silence, and loneliness that came with living alone. The queen sized bed felt too big for just me, and it lacked the warmth of another human.I occasionally turned over in bed, wondering what it was Callum would be doing with Lori. Would they be consummating their marriage? Or would they be having a long, non-ending dinner with his family? I mean, she had never truly spoken to them, and although they never questioned Callum's decision to get married so soon, I knew they'd be curious about her.I had spent so many weekends at their place to know how the entire Black family thought.I push the covers off me, and I get off the bed, ready to start my day. I can't slouch forever, or even for long. I have a busy life. It's a Sunday, and although it isn't an actual working day, I know I have tons of work that I've slept on over the past two weeks. Planning Lori's weddi
