When Kristina got her job as the secretary to the CEO of Black’s textiles, the last thing she expected was to end up in his bed, while he was married to her sister. **** “We need to stop doing this,” Kristina muttered silently to the beautiful man lying next to her. He chuckled silently as he dabbed her cheek with his finger. “You're having so much fun with this,” he teased, She closed her eyes, savoring the moment. As much as she hated admitting it, it was indeed true. She wasn't supposed to be happy nor satisfied in this situation with her in-law. She was betraying her only sister. Her only sane family. She needed to break up with him. She would break up with him, she decided. But as soon as she opened her eyes, the words disappeared from her tongue. “Well, one last time.” She agreed to his pleading eyes. Only that, deep down she knew it wasn't one last time. This unending desire for her in-law would consume her.

He goes on one knee. My heart skips a beat. “Will you marry me?” He asks, I turn around in confusion, unable to speak. My heart is plummeting in my chest, and my head starts to bang. I clutch onto my chest, unable to breathe. His eyes are widened, and he is smiling brightly, but I cannot bring myself to speak. My lips part, but the words will not croak. “No…” I whisper in my head, “No,” This cannot be happening. He cannot be proposing right now. This needs to end now. Right on cue, more lights switch on, and a larger banner reads “Will you marry me?” I gasp, silently, covering my mouth with my palms. I can't even speak. This is so wrong. This cannot be happening. I can feel the tears already at the brim of my eyes. When Callum doesn't get a response in minutes, the chants of “say yes!” begins to reduce. I wipe the tears from my eyes, walking into the shadows. “Yes. Of course, I will marry you!” She exclaims, and my heart breaks into tiny bits. I cannot believe it. She agreed to marry him. I blink back the tears, watching as he places the ring on her finger, gets to his feet, and places his lips on hers. I wipe my eyes softly, trying to stop the mirage of tears. My sister just said yes to a billionaire. My sister just said yes to my boss. My sister just said yes to the love of my life. I gently place my fingers on the tip of the chair, trying to stabilize my balance. Lori, with her long, blonde hair, and the face of a supermodel, flashes a bright smile at the camera, showing off her fingers. Deep down, I know she is excited, and not shoving her engagement in my face, but I can't help it as my heart clenches harder, bleeding from pain. I wipe my eyes fruitlessly. I drop my book on the table, and am about to walk out when all the lights flash towards me. I stop in my tracks, unable to move. The entire world just caught me weeping because my only sister got engaged. “Kristy!!” Lori's voice pulls me from my thoughts as she runs towards me. She envelops me in a large hug, nearly squishing my intestines out. “I'm crying too,” she mutters as tears flow from her eyes. She wipes the tears from my eyes, “oh my god. This is such an emotional moment for both of us! It's what you've always said would happen!” Realizing what she means, I melt into character. “Yes. I can't believe he actually proposed. He actually did!” I squirm in a voice meant to sound excited, only that I truly mean my words. “I know right? It's so amazing! And look!” She stretches out her fingers, “it's pure diamond.” “It's amazing,” I stare in awe, and envy. I eventually force myself to look at Callum. He also has a smile plastered on his face, but one only I can tell is nervous. His lips quiver at the edges. “Congratulations,” I say to both of them. “Thank you, sister!” She gushes, wrapping one arm around me, and another on her fiance. Ugh. That word feels so bitter on my tongue. The cameras flash, and a picture is taken. I force a smile on my face for the rest of the night. Soon enough, we leave the restaurant. Lori drives with her fiance, and I, with no one at the backseat. “Goodnight, baby. I'll see you tomorrow!” She gushes at my window before running off to her car. “Goodnight.” I force another smile on my face. Hopefully, the last one for the night. The drive begins, and in no time, I arrive at my apartment. I am welcomed by the silence of the building. Gratefully, I walk in, taking off my shoes right by the door. Without another thought, I head straight to the cellar, and pull out a bottle of wine. I pour it into a glass, and then raise a toast to the air. “Cheers to me! Forever the other woman!” I whisper in silence. Why does it hurt so bad? I rejected him. He asked me to court him, and I refused. When he asked me to marry him, I blatantly laughed in his face. I deserve this. Everything I feel right now is a hundred percent deserved by me. He has fallen in love with another, a woman that actually deserves him. I smile to myself as I walk to my couch. Karma does have a way to be a fucking bitch. I hiss as I turn on the TV, searching for what to watch. Every channel is talking about Callum, and Lori's engagement. On one, I see myself, riddled with tears, and looking horrible. With a hiss, I switch off the television, and pick up my phone. The first post I see is me with smeared mascara, crying myself out. I groan as I scroll to the comment section. “Is she the bride, or the sister?” One comment asks. “Ugh, why is she crying so much? It's giving the main character energy!” I roll my eyes immediately. Fuck her. “I mean, if I were the one to be the sister-in-law of a billionaire, I'd be in fucking tears! It's a life changing story! Go girl! Get that money!” I smile at that comment. It's the first thing to go right this evening. I continue scrolling through posts, and my sour mood wears off. I am engrossed in my phone when I eventually hear a knock on the door. Finally! What I've been waiting for. I get to my feet, and walk to the door. As soon as I pull it open, the wisp of his perfume fills my nose. I close my eyes gently, savoring his presence. “Did you miss me that bad?” He jokes, I open my eyes, smiling gently. “Come in,” He walks in gently, and my smile fades. “You smell like her,” “I was around her all day. I pro-” “It's alright.” I cut him short, “I get it.” He pulls me in, wrapping his hands around my waist. “Are you jealous?” “No,” I shake my head, “But you were crying so bad tonight.” “Just shut up, and kiss me.” With no resistance, he obeys. His lips melt into mine, and my legs weaken immediately. His hands reach into my dress, and he unclasps my bra. “Fuck it,” I mutter silently. After all these years, I can't believe I am still that girl fucking her sister's fiance.KRISIt's quite embarrassing actually. The way, I'm prepping my best suit just because my brother-in-law will be at the board's meeting. It's nothing special, I know.I have been invited to a number of impromptu board meetings, and from experience, I can say, it's either someone is leaving, or someone is about to be added to fill an empty space on board, or both.I shrug my shoulders. It doesn't involve me. I pick out my navy blue suit jacket, and throw it over my shoulders. In compliance, I equally pick out my black set of Versace shoes. As soon as I'm done dressing up, I pick up my bag, and head to the Uber already waiting for me.It takes less than twenty minutes to maneuver through traffic, and end up at my office. As I walk in, I notice how quiet the environment is. You can easily tell when Callum's presence abodes, it breeds silence.I walk up to my office, drop my bag, and pick up my notebook.Right before walking out, I remain fixed in one position as I inhale a fresh breath
KRISHe has no right to be angry. Truly, he doesn't. He's sitting across the table with his hands over my sister, and they're both wearing their wedding rings. He's taken. He's not mine, and I will never be his. I have no reason to feel bad for wanting my own person.“Good evening,” Sergei says to my father, and the sound of his voice pulls me from my thoughts.I can see the surprise on my father's face, but it's absolutely impossible to tell if he's surprised I have someone or if it's the Russian accent rolling off Sergei's tongue.Nevertheless, my father grabs his hand, and they hold a tight handshake.“Good evening. Who are you?” He asks,“Pardon my late entry, I am Sergei Rachmaninoff, and I have a current interest in your daughter.” He says with a smile,“Lori?” He asks with a raised brow.I close my eyes, absorbing the embarrassment.Sergei simply laughs it off, “Of course not. She's married to a wonderful man.” He takes my hand, then turns to me, “darling, you've never told y
KRISI pick out my hand bag, and by the time I get to the Sergei is already waiting for me with flowers in hand.“What are the flowers for?” I ask, stunned.“I'm sure your father wouldn't want you with a man that doesn't get you flowers for every date.” He says, giving them to me.There's no ounce of romance in what he has done, but it's still nice. I haven't received flowers as a random gesture in months, and while it is a change, but I don't let him know.“Thank you,” I thank him, “I love roses.”“Let's get going, shall we?” I nod.He opens the door, and leads me out of the apartment. As soon as we get into the car, I drop the bouquet on the car seat, creating a spacing between us. He respects it, and the drive is silent. We finally arrive at the restaurant just ten minutes after nine.Sergei, and I are about to step down when he receives a call.“Give me a minute,” he whispers,I remain seated, clacking my fingers on my bag. It is one thing for my father to meet Sergei, but it's
KRISHe pushes open the door gently, and walks in.My eyes fall on his finger immediately. He's wearing his wedding ring.“Good morning,” he says,As soon as he notices where my attention is at, he places his hand into the pocket of his joggers.“Good morning,” I respond, facing the papers immediately. My heart is steadily drumming against my chest, and I don't even think I can bear seeing his face for one more minute.“How are you?” He asks,This time he isn't the proud, arrogant boss I've grown to know. He is soft, and careful, trying not to cross the line.“I'm fine. How was your wedding night?” He doesn't respond.I look up to find him watching me. “How was it?” I push further,“Let's not talk about that,” he says, taking a seat.He has returned to his original self.“Yes, you're right.” I agree, closing the file. “Let's talk about the pile of work we have left,”“No, not that.”“Okay. Then let's talk about why after I cleared your schedule for two weeks straight, you went ahead
KRISI spent the entire night coddled between the sheets in my cold room. For the first time in a long while, I noticed the silence, and loneliness that came with living alone. The queen sized bed felt too big for just me, and it lacked the warmth of another human.I occasionally turned over in bed, wondering what it was Callum would be doing with Lori. Would they be consummating their marriage? Or would they be having a long, non-ending dinner with his family? I mean, she had never truly spoken to them, and although they never questioned Callum's decision to get married so soon, I knew they'd be curious about her.I had spent so many weekends at their place to know how the entire Black family thought.I push the covers off me, and I get off the bed, ready to start my day. I can't slouch forever, or even for long. I have a busy life. It's a Sunday, and although it isn't an actual working day, I know I have tons of work that I've slept on over the past two weeks. Planning Lori's weddi
KRISTYI wipe the tears pouring profusely from my eyes.God.Why did I let such a memory come on such an important day? I am supposed to be elated, and joyful.I tighten my chest, and my fist. No more crying. Today is supposed to be the happiest day of my sister's life, and I will not ruin it with my own trauma.I take a deep breath, and take another look at the mirror. In all honesty, it is the first time I have looked at myself in a full mirror in a while. I chew on my bottom lip as I stare at my face. While the tears seem to have dried up, my face looks mushy now. My mascara is smeared, and my eyes are red, and hot.Anyone with working eyes will be able to see that I just cried. As I keep thinking of a way to leave the wedding silently, I hear a soft knock on the door.I quickly straighten my spine, turning around. My zipper is still halfway on my back, and I can only hope it's a woman on the other side of the door.I walk to the door, and gently pull it open.I am met with Serge
