Nina's POV

Liam’s grip on my upper arms was unyielding as my small world spiraled out of control because of how close we were standing.

"Nina?" he breathed deeply. He looked just as startled as I was as his deep blue eyes scanned my face, which I knew was all red and puffy from all the crying, coupled with my messed-up hair. "What are you doing out here? Are you—"

"Liam!"

A sharp voice rang out, shattering the little moment we shared.

I flinched as Anya appeared from the exit doors as her eyes locked onto Liam’s hands still resting on my arms, and her expression twisted into pure rage. Wasting no time, she marched over and forcefully shoved my shoulder to break his grip on me, causing me to stumble back.

"What the hell do you think you're doing, Nina?" Anya snapped, her voice dripping with venom as she glared at me like I was evil. "I leave him alone for five minutes, and you're out here trying to throw yourself at my fiancé? Are you seriously trying to seduce him the night before our engagement party? Do you have no dignity over your loose body at all?"

"Anya, stop," Liam growled, stepping between us, as his jaws clenched. "She was falling and I just caught her, what are you talking about?"

"Oh, please! Look at her, Liam!" Anya sneered, gesturing toward me with absolute disgust. "She’s pathetic and she’s been desperate for attention ever since Father announced the wedding, can you not see it? Stay away from him, Nina. You are nothing but an embarrassment to this family, and you will not ruin my life."

With a possessive yank, Anya grabbed Liam’s arm, pulling him tightly against her side as she pulled him away from me. Liam didn't say another word, though his eyes lingered on me for a fraction of a second longer than necessary before Anya dragged him toward their car.

I just stood frozen in my steps as a fresh wave of humiliation washed over me. She had always been mean to me and I thought she couldn't hurt me anymore, but seeing her talk down on me right in front of Liam shattered me in ways I didn’t think were even possible, given my already broken heart.

"Nina! Oh my god, there you are!"

Frida burst through the exit doors, looking around frantically until her eyes landed on me and then, she rushed to my side when she noticed how I was trembling.

"I saw Anya and Liam walking out. Did they see you? Did something happen?"

"Please, Frida," I whispered, my voice breaking as I tried not to burst into tears again. "Just take me home. Please."

Frida didn't ask any more questions as she seemed to understand exactly what had happened. Letting out a sigh, she wrapped her arm around me before guiding me to her car.

That night, I barely got any sleep and even then, morning came too quickly, which simply meant my nightmare was far from over.

The Beckett estate was in full swing, because they were having an official engagement party downstairs since the wedding was the next day and once again, I couldn’t escape it.

I remained locked in my room all day and only got out of bed when I knew it was time. I put on a simple, dark dress, did my best to mask my swollen eyes with heavy concealer, brushed my hair and then, descended the stairs.

The ballroom was crowded with wealthy socialites, who were majority here because of how famous Liam was. As I joined them, I made sure to remain in corners as I actively avoided any contact with my father, Anya, or even worse, Liam as I hoped I would go unnoticed.

Every time I caught a glimpse of Liam looking effortlessly perfect in his tuxedo and my dazzling sister who everyone was fawning over, my heart would ache so violently that I could barely breathe.

To numb the agonizing pain, I did the only thing I could think of. I drank.

I moved from waiter to waiter, swapping empty glasses for full ones while downing the liquid as fast as my body could take it because I wanted to forget everything and soon. I lost count after the fifth glass and my vision soon began to blur.

When I couldn’t seem to stand on my feet without stumbling anymore, I tried to head to my room but then, I staggered towards one of the hallways that was near the back of the estate with my vision barely helping me as my whole body felt numbed.

As I walked aimlessly, my legs soon began to tremble too much so, I leaned against the wall and tried to catch my bearings but then, my knees gave out and within seconds, I fell and passed out completely.

“Arggg,” I groaned as I peeled my eyes open the next morning. As my eyes adjusted to the brightness, I realized I was in an unfamiliar room.

Confused, I tried to move but realized there was a massive weight holding me down. My heart skipped when I looked down and realized a large, muscular arm was wrapped possessively around my waist, pulling my back flush against a broad, bare chest as an expensive cologne flooded my senses, instantly clearing the fog from my brain. I knew this scent. I knew this warmth.

My heartbeat slowly increased as I dared to turn my head but the moment my eyes settled on the person behind me, my eyes widened so much, they almost fell out of their sockets.

Liam.

He was fast asleep with his dark hair messy and his sharp features looking so good, they almost felt unreal as he remained completely naked under the silk sheets we shared.

Panic snapped me out of my thoughts pretty fast as I began to wonder what the hell was going on. How did I end up here?

Before I could even process the horror of the situation, the bedroom doors burst open, making me flinch in fear.

"Oh my god! No!"

A loud scream tore through the room. I snapped my eyes toward the door as terror filled me to see Anya standing by the door with shock on her face and right behind her, was my dad, who looked like he was about to murder me.

Liam's POVDay 14. Two bloody weeks. I had to endure two weeks without her. Packing my bags for the contract merger sign in Italy was a hell of a trip and I wasn’t supposed to be at a restaurant. Gideon dragged me. “You haven’t eaten a real meal in a week. It'll be twenty minutes. I promise then we can go back.”So here I was. At Bastian’s. Corner table. Back to the wall. The way Dad taught me. I wasn’t eating. I was scanning. Every woman with long hair. Every exit. Every black SUV that slowed down outside. The city felt too big without her in it.“Mr. Hampton?” The waiter set down water I didn’t ask for. “Are you—”“Fine.” My phone buzzed. It was another regular PI. There were no leads on her. I shoved it face down. That’s when I saw her.Across the restaurant, near the window. She had the same full hair but red and it wasn't bright. It gave a hint of copper when it was touched by the late afternoon sun. And her curly hair fell past her shoulders. She was turned halfway, talki

Nina's POVThe kitchen smelled like lemon and bleach. I was wiping the same spot on the table for the third time when the front door clicked. It was Frida. She came in with two grocery bags in one hand and a small padded envelope in the other. Her eyes went straight to me, then to the envelope.“The mail came in and I got them out,” she said, setting the bags down. “This one’s for you.”My hands stilled on the cloth. For me? Nobody knew I was here. Except…I dried my hands on my sweatpants and took them. It was light. My name wasn’t on it. Just _N. Hale_. A safe house name we’d picked two weeks ago.I ripped it open. First was a small box with earrings, hoops, and simple fake gold studs and a note in Frida’s handwriting. “For doctor visits. You deserve something pretty.”The next gift was a card and I opened it to see it was a booked appointment. A card from St. Mary’s Women’s Clinic. Antenatal Appointment. July 30th. 10:30 AM. Dr. Alvarez.“Thank you,” I whispered while she smil

Liam's POV I raised one eyebrow making him more tense and he closed his eyes for a brief moment, recollected his composite and looked sideways in an awkward manner the second he met my eye. “I always was and still am. But today, I'll be your brother. And best friend if you will allow me.”“You might as well become my wife.” I teased. “Ha ha. Very funny, sir. But no. Unfortunately, that's too hard to handle. This secretary's work is already hard enough but you pay handsomely and I don't have plans of taking another. Besides, that position has already been taken care of by Mrs. Nina.” For a second I was happy then sad. Most of the emotions took me off to feelings I didn't understand. It was bittersweet to have lovely memories of her helping out and taking care of me, her coming to me but then the times I had wronged her never left me. God, I was an idiot. “I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that,” Gideon made me look back at him. “No. It's okay.” I rose from my seat and took off my j

  • Unintended Bride    Forty Four

Liam's POVIt was fate. They said, What fate? The pitiless bullshit people were told to to get stuck with whatever crap life gave them but I didn't want that. I was tired of hearing it constantly and somehow the universe kept shooting it my way. It was the most popular word I had seen and heard since Nina disappeared. The newspaper, the broadcasters, old men, the starbuck coffee note too. And what did I do? Nothing, at least not nothing but the results were nothing to me. So I relayed into it. Six days had gone by and I didn't have news of Nina. Everyday was a pain. I kept checking my phone screen every second for the investigator's response. The door opened and I didn't bother looking up from the reports. “Found anything?” “No sir,” Gideon said in a careful tone. It wasn't his fault but that response ticked me off in the worst way. I nodded to cover my temper and signed another acquisition, already tired the book five times in a row. I had every word memorized by heart. I bought

Liam’s POV Frank nodded then took out his phone. But after he dialed, I saw his expression falter. "She's changed lines."Disbelief, pain, and anger all flooded me. My phone rang in my pocket and I pulled it out. It was a message from my Dad. "Come back with a proper apology to your mom and I or you'll be thrown out of the company."I squeezed the phone hard. That was how he was going to play it. Fine, then I'll show him how bad I could play. I dialed Gideon. "Gather the board of directors for a meeting in the next hour.”~I walked into the Hampton Enterprise boardroom 47 minutes later. I had bandaged my wounds, dressed in the darkest Tom Ford suit I could find with no tie, my hair combed back with a gel and a fiery temper I planned to use to full will. The hospital clothes had been thrown into the trash can and I had my private investigator looking for Nina. I pushed the door open and walked in casually, taking my hand out of my pocket and taking my seat. Gideon placed the fil

Liam's POVThe lights flashed on my face, my eyes slowly opened and closed back, before fluttering again, adjusting to the light. Birds chirped and my vision closed in, the white ceiling coming into view, bolder. I turned my head and saw the IV line connected to my arm, looking downwards, my fingers flinched and a blonde hair rested next to it. That didn't add up. I lifted my body slowly upwards and immediately regretted it. She woke up. Anya's sleepy eyes met mine then grew wider. "Liam!" She cheered and moved her hand to touch me but my brows furrowed warning her not to dare. She paused but kept talking and I wished she would shut up. "Are you okay? I was here all night. You passed out..."I cut her short. "Where's Nina?" Anya's face turned into a scowl. I shouldn't have bothered and tugged at the IV as I stood up. Anya rushed to me. "You can't. The doctor said..."I shut her up again, didn't she get it, I didn't need her presence. "I asked you a question, where the fuck is N
