CHAPTER 4 – Brynn

“Aurora?”

Moira called out when she came back to her room and couldn’t find or smell her daughter. Her belongings were still in the room, even her phone; calling her was impossible.

Moira panicked a bit; her daughter, amid werewolves, was unsettling for her, but she had allowed Aurora to come over because she thought she could protect her…at least. But now, she couldn’t find her daughter, and fear began to creep in.

“Where could she be?”  No one in the house except her, the compound guard, and the assigned maid who led Aurora knew that her daughter was coming over to the mansion.

Moira couldn’t go around to start asking about her daughter’s whereabouts, even if she wanted to; Aurora’s visit isn’t something the entire family expected, and it could be dire for Moira.

Just as Moira stood still, trying to figure out what to do next, she perceived a familiar and powerful smell; the Alpha had returned from his meeting with the council. This was trouble.

“Call me Luke and Moira, and get me a glass of orange juice,” Brynn said, waving off a servant who had helped him carry his bag into the study room.

“Yes, master.”

Moira, on getting the message that she was called by the alpha, felt her heart beat faster.

Did he already know? She thought to herself, at the same time, it was deadly to keep the alpha waiting. She put herself in order because showing fear before the alpha would be dangerous for her, as he could smell her fear.

Moira walked in on Luke reporting an intruder to Brynn. She composed herself as she stepped into the study room and stood by the side of Brynn. Knowing how it was a dangerous act to interrupt the alpha’s discussion, she patiently waited with her head bowed, daring not to meet the alpha’s eyes.

“Have you found out what the intruder was doing in the young master’s bedroom?” Brynn drank from his glass, dropped it on the table, rested back on his sofa, and closed his eyes. His glasses were on the table; seeing him in this position meant that he had a long day and was unwinding.

“Not yet, master,” Luke answered, his eyes not meeting Brynn’s. “The young master asked to let her have fun in the prison, after she made threats.”

‘She?’ Moira thought to herself, it couldn’t be her daughter, right?

“Threats?” Brynn asked, his eyes slightly opened, but his expression remained unhinged.

“Yes, master.”

Brynn took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He didn’t want to make decisions in the presence of Moira because, as an omega that she was, she wasn’t supposed to be involved in the decision-making of the pack in any way. Her obligations remained only to follow orders and nothing more.

“Prepare an early dinner, Moira, I don’t think I can wait for the usual time today,” Brynn said,

“Yes, master,” Moira answered. She was about to go, but she couldn’t. Her daughter was still missing, and she needed to know where she was.

“Is there something I can help you with?” Brynn’s eyes still closed, Luke turned his eyes to Moira.

“Yes, master,” She knelt immediately, bowed, so that her hands were stretched forward on the floor, and her forehead touched the glittering floor.

“My daughter came to visit me, master. Please forgive my misdeed. I am nothing but a mother, desperate to behold the face of the child she had not seen for years. I let my desperation get the best of me, and I plead for your forgiveness.”

“And?” Brynn asked, unhinged.

“I had left her in my room before leaving, but when I came back, she was nowhere to be found, master.” Her head was still pressed on the well-polished floor of the study room, sweating profusely as the alpha could be dangerously unpredictable, and her fate seemed to be dire.

Brynn took another breath and stretched his hand, and Luke handed Brynn the iPad he held. The iPad was connected to all the CCTVs in the mansion.

Brynn opened his eyes as soon as the iPad touched his hand. He gently scrolled and touched the screen. “Blue jeans, white shirt, dark brown hair, is she the one?”

“Yes. Yes, master. She is my child.” Moira shivered; she was in for it big time, but her daughter mattered to her more.

After what felt like an eternity to her, Brynn finally spoke, “This is no way to treat family, Luke.” He handed the iPad back to Luke. “Get her out of there immediately and bring her back to her mother.”

“Yes, master.” Luke bowed and rushed out of the study room.

Moira, still in her position, couldn’t believe her ears. The alpha wasn’t rash towards her; he called her daughter family. Or does he have a dangerous plan in mind, and this was just a decoy?

She stayed there, sweating uncontrollably, not knowing what to believe as different thoughts crossed her mind. She felt that he had sat up this time rather than resting on his chair like he initially did.

“This is the first time your daughter has come to visit, and she’s taken to the mansion’s prison,” Brynn said, sounding disappointed, but still with a dreadful tone. “That’s not nice, Moira.”

“Forgive me, master,” her voice shook, “I was scared and desperate all at once, please forgive my stupidity.” Sweat trickled down her face as she was still on the floor, her forehead and hands touching the shining floor.

“Let her join the family for dinner.” He spoke; his voice was strong, and the sound alone commanded respect.

Moira, shocked and surprised all at once, “What?” She lifted her head but still didn’t dare to meet Brynn’s eyes.

“She should join us for dinner,” He said, “I would like to do a proper introduction to the family, obviously, you aren’t good with that. Also, I would love to get to know her.”

Moira was quiet.

“Or you don’t want any of that?”

“I never said so, master. Although I am her mother, I will never forget that she is alive today only because of you.” She went back to pressing her forehead on the floor. “Thank you, master, for your priceless kindness, and if this is your will, then it shall be done.”

“Thank you, now off you go.”

Moira would be fine, wouldn’t she? But Aurora... He felt a great deal of comfort with her. He couldn’t walk away from this moment. He wasn’t sure when he’d gotten so attached, but one thing was clear, and that was, he couldn’t leave her now.He texted back, telling them he would be there by the next day. After the text, he went ahead to carry Aurora in his arms and headed back into the mansion. Where Theodore found solace in the fleeting moment with Aurora, far away at Moonridge pack, Ingrid sat on her bed, staring at her phone beside her, while biting her lip.“Why do you think he hasn’t called, Rhea?” Ingrid asked Rhea, who was kneeling on the broken glass of a flower vase.Earlier on, Rhea had mistakenly broken a glass flower vase when she fell on the table after Ingrid had slapped her hard.Rhea sniffed silently, watching her knees bleed from the deep cuts. She had been in that position for hours, and by this time, she was already feeling weak.“I… I don’t know…. My Lady.” Rhea

Brynn’s eyes widened in shock.Luke’s brows furrowed in disbelief.“You’re lying,” Brynn shouted. The man cowered, horrified at Brynn’s action. He had never seen Brynn in this light and regretted being the reason for his fiery mood.“I’m not lying, master,” His voice shook, “Simone told me clearly that the man’s name is Alejandro Phillip.”Brynn hesitated, breathing heavily, “If you see this man, would you be able to identify him?”“N… no master,” His voice cracked, “The first and only time I had come in contact with him, he was fully covered, so I couldn’t see his face.”Brynn growled violently.“But,” The man fearfully shouted, “I can recognize his voice if I hear him speak.”“Are you sure?” Brynn slowly asked.“Yes, master.” The man was already soaked with the sweat from his body.“So you’re saying this Phillip is responsible for the crime we’re investigating?” Brynn asked.“I’m not sure, but he gave us the fake materials we used to carry out the test.”Brynn sighed, retracting his

The man’s question fell on deaf ears as he continuously heard the heavy and slow footsteps grow louder and louder.“Please,” He swallowed in fear, “I beg of you, don’t kill me.”And just when he didn’t expect it, the footsteps stopped. His breathing became heavy; he didn’t know what was happening, but could only pray that he wasn’t killed.“This man is human.” The man jerked at the sound of Brynn’s fierce voice.“It appears so, master,” Luke said.“He doesn’t look like one who could wield a knife to arm,” Brynn crossed his arms backwards, watching the man shiver in fear.“I didn’t arm anyone, sir, I swear.” The man begged.Brynn sighed, “I know. I apologize for the ill treatment.”Brynn turned to Luke, “See to it that the man gets back safely, and enough compensation for the damages.”“Yes, master.”The man became surprised; he wasn’t physically beaten, and he was about to get compensation? He kept quiet, not knowing whether to thank the kidnapper or not.“I have been played,” Brynn a

“Have them all taken in for questioning.” Phil sounded as if the crowd seemed to be thrown into a frenzy. Some of the affected parties began to fear for their lives, as they contemplated begging him, knowing that he wasn’t going to change his mind.“Master,” Aurora’s earlier challenger cried out, falling on his knees. “I… I can explain.”“Do that to the authorities.” Phil shot coldly, turning against him and facing Aurora.“Please, I beg of you.” The man lay on the ground, while other affected parties joined. It started to become rowdy and noisy, which wasn’t fit for a work environment.Phil, annoyed by the noise, turned sharply to the secretary, “Get the guards to bundle everyone of them before the police arrive.”“Yes, master.”Aurora watched in shock as the knight in shining armour she knew looked so cold and so different in her sight right now.She had never seen him in this light before, and before she knew it, men stormed the boardroom, mercilessly taking the people out, in twos

“Take a good look at the sheets in your hand,” Aurora’s voice rang clear. “These are the documents you’ve given us. Now compare them to what’s on the screen. You’ll notice,” she pointed at the screen, “that these red marks show the discrepancies in your submission. What you see doesn’t match what’s in the paper you’re holding.”The room was silent for a moment, but the opponents began murmuring among themselves. One man who seemed clearly flustered stood up, attempting to challenge her.“This is absurd,” he snapped, waving his sheet of paper. “These errors could just be... formatting issues. You can’t seriously expect us to believe this is deliberate.”Elena slowly sat upright, wanting to take over from Aurora, but Aurora wasn’t going to make Elena feel she wasn’t good enough to handle it.She did the findings and had mastered the backing of her claims and evidence when she was preparing to bring them to Elena. So, explaining wasn’t an issue for her.Aurora’s eyes narrowed as she rais

Aurora paced about nervously in the restroom. She blew into her sweaty palms as she stood and stared into the standing mirror. She had taken a big decision without even thinking about it.‘I know I can do this.’ She thought. But doubt crept in, “Can I?” She asked, but her reflection stared back at her in response. What was she even thinking? That such a job would come without any risks?Even though she really wanted it, it still shouldn’t be at the detriment of her safety. She hesitated. At that moment, she heard something,‘Do you know what’s worse?’Her voice, sounding very low, came upon her as a reminder as she looked at her reflection.“The feeling of regret.” She said with assurance. And that was all she needed to put herself together. She smiled, “Yes, I can do this.” Adjusted her clothes and stepped out, ready to face the world.Aurora swallowed nervously behind Elena as the door to the boardroom opened. The room before her was grand, with a large TV on one wall, a round table
