“You shouldn’t be here, you know?” Theodore finally broke out of his shock, “Who even let her out of prison? I preferred it when she climbed the bars like an animal.”

“So you saw me?” Aurora said, “You heard my threats and still didn’t show up like I asked.”

She put both elbows on the table and supported her chin with her interlocked fingers. “Hmmm, I wonder why.” Her heart began to beat fast, and she felt fear creeping in, but she didn’t show it one bit.

She pointed at him, “Don’t tell me that you were too chicken to show your face, scared of what this animal could do to you?”

She opened both hands in the air in demonstration, “‘The young master, beaten by a woman’ An embarrassing headline, don’t you agree?” She looked at him unshaken, barely touching her food. She wanted to put Theodore in his place first.

“Enough!” Bianca shouted. This was enough to cool down the boiling heat.

The servants who were beginning to feel scared for Aurora wished they would just disappear, rather than witness this scene before them.

“You despicable human, you come in here and run your mouth like you own the place.” Bianca was boiling with anger. Aurora bowed her head a little. “Didn’t your mother teach you not to talk back at people way superior to you?”

Theodore’s wolf growled silently, and he secretly rubbed his chest to soothe his fast-beating heart.

“I’m sorry about that. I didn’t mean to.” Aurora apologized.

“You are not welcome here, leave.” Bianca said, she looked at Brynn, “And you sit here and entertain this? I beg to take my leave; I can’t stand this nonsense.” She stood up with a loud screeching sound and stumped out of the dining room.

There was silence in the room, and the only thing that could be heard was Brynn’s cutlery softly clashing with the ceramic plate.

A few seconds later, Brynn looked at Theodore, his cutlery ready to cut into the meat on his plate. “So tell us,” he said. “Were you too chicken to show your face?” He cut into his food, and Theodore gave his father an unbelievable look.

“Were you scared?” he added. “Tell me, I would love to know.” Holding back his laughter.

“I can’t believe this,” Theodore mouthed out, “I’m out of here.” He stood up and left.

“I’m so sorry about all this, master.” Aurora apologized, bowing her head, “You have been nothing but kind to me, but I repay you with this instead. Please forgive my stupidity.”

“Stupidity?” He asked, “I call it bravery, for all I know, you gave him a taste of his own medicine. I admire that.” He looked at Aurora.

Aurora, surprised, looked at Brynn and quickly lowered her head,

“You don’t have to be scared, child, look at me. It’s high time we get a little change around here. Been a long time since I laughed like that.” He said, “Sorry about Theodore, he usually isn’t like this, he is just having a bad day.”

Aurora didn’t say anything,

“How long are you here for?” Brynn asked,

“A wee…” Aurora paused, “You know what? I will stay for a month.” She gave a sinister smile in secret.

“Okay then, hoping to catch up and get to know you, if you don’t mind,” Brynn said.

“It would be an honour, master.”

Theodore stormed into his room and barged through the door,

“Aargh!” He screamed in frustration, “She insulted me. She doesn’t know what she is getting into.”

He paced forth and back in his room, “She is stupidly ignorant.” He stopped, “She should fear and respect me. I should’ve given her a glimpse of what I can do.”

His wolf growled, “And you, shut up.” He screamed, “All you did was growl and make me uncomfortable when I was around her.”

He stood in front of the mirror, “Don’t tell me you are scared of her,” he said, staring at his reflection, “Because I know that I am not. Humans should cower at our feet, and not the other way around.”

“So how was it?” Moira, who looked very worried as she paced about in her room, only stopped when she saw Aurora enter the room.

“Don’t tell me you’ve been getting yourself all worked up since then.” Aurora said, sitting down, “Relax, the meal went well, the master was surprisingly nice, he asked to know more about me.”

“And the wife and young master?” Moira’s head tilted slightly, and her brows lifted.

“They’re okay.” Aurora lifted and dropped her shoulders. “I changed my mind, I will be staying for a month instead of a week.”

Surprised, “A month?” Moira asked, “Why?”

“I just need a little more time; there’s something I need to deal with here.”

“Are you sure?” Moira asked.

“Yeah,” Aurora answered,

“You should be very careful in this house, child; everything isn’t as it seems.”

“Okay, mum.” She answered. “Now come sit,” tapping the bed lightly, “let me tell you about Lucius.” She smiled.

Bianca was in bed in her room, fuming hard, when Brynn entered,

“How could you?”

He remained calm as he changed his dress,

“A low-life human insults your son, your heir, and you sit there and do nothing?”

“Insult?” Brynn looked at Bianca, “I think the right words are ‘putting him in his place.’” He went to the mirror stand.

“She was kind of right; you know?” He dropped his watch on the table. “Since your son started hanging out often with Ingrid, he’s changed.” He turned around, “He really has fallen far from the tree.” Brynn chuckled.

Then he started to head towards the bed,

“Is that so?” Bianca gave him an unbelievable look.

“I like her, she’s brave,” Brynn climbed his bed, “Besides, she is family.”

“Says who?”

“Me,” Brynn answered.

“She can never be a part of this family,” Bianca's voice was raised, “she is human.”

“Woman!” Brynn shouted, his voice echoed in the room, “She is family because I say so.” His face expressionless as he stared at Bianca, who looked shocked at his sudden tone.

“I didn’t expect such behavior from you; if not for anything, you should relate to her better than any of us in this family.” Bianca looked away, “Now don’t go giving her a hard time, I know you.”

“Goodnight.” He lay down on the bed.

Waiting for the order to be given.“Come, child,” Brynn called out to her.Aurora gently headed towards Brynn’s stretched hand, her face lit up, not because she was happy, but because she felt fatherly love from someone she least expected, and never knew how much she needed it, until now.Brynn had a look on his face, one that showed that he didn’t want Aurora to leave just yet. She hadn’t gone, but he already missed her.Aurora, on the other hand, didn’t want to leave this newly found love just yet, but her stay in the mansion had been a bittersweet memory, as she had enjoyed the love Brynn showered upon her, just as she had endured the rejection both Theodore and the madam showed to her.Brynn held her hand tightly as soon as it touched his.“Luke would personally ensure your safe return.” He said.Aurora glanced at the car, “Isn’t this too much, Father?” She looked at Brynn, “I would have preferred going back the way I came, by public transport.”“You might have come to the mansion

Bianca barged into Theodore’s room, with Ingrid following behind, while Theodore covered his wounds with a bandage.“Oh my child,” Bianca walked with speed towards Theodore, who was sitting on the bed. “Why not have the doctor check you out and treat your wounds? You shouldn’t be doing this yourself.”“I’m fine, mum. Besides, it’s just a scratch, and don’t forget that we heal faster than normal,” Theodore looked at Ingrid, who was now standing close to him, with a worried look. “Why do you look like you are the one who fought? You’re such a mess.”Ingrid playfully hit his hand,“Ow!”“Sorry about that,” She looked at him, “I thought I was going to lose you, your mother, and I were so worried about you.”“She’s right, son. We were all worried.” Bianca said.“Including dad?” Theodore asked, “I bet he wasn’t. He was probably bothered about me not being able to prove myself, rather than my well-being.”“Don’t say that about your father; he loves you very much,” Bianca said.“Congratulatio

“Chicken!”Aurora’s voice came upon him, beclouding his sense of reasoning.Theodore blinked. He began to remember her taunting face, how she’d teased him in the hallway. The glint in her eyes when she challenged him, calling him a chicken.“This apple has fallen far from the tree.”“Scared of what this animal could do to you?”“What’s stopping you?”“I definitely thought you were going to do some real damage.”“Chicken!”The voices inside his head made him angry, as they challenged him even further.‘I am not a chicken.’ He thought to himself.Lucius’s clawed hands came down to the horror of the audience, and unexpectedly, when they all thought that was the end, Theodore held both hands before they landed.A deep, low growl came out from his chest as he rose slowly, his eyes burning like someone who had had enough and was ready to come out of his shackles.Bianca’s knees gave out as she fell on the chair, breathing heavily in relief, her son survived… for now.Brynn and Ingrid, on he

“The two candidates stand before the council of elders,” Brynn’s voice sounded cold. Both candidates stood before the council of elders, their families seated beside the elders.“Now I’m scared, mother,” Ingrid said, looking at Bianca, “This man is a psychopath, he kills for fun.”“How could Brynn allow this?” Bianca asked, with a worried look, while she clenched her fists.“Before you start, I must state the rules: Candidates must fight in their fully shifted werewolf form. No external weapons of any kind, no use of any form of magic or magical objects. No external interference of any kind, and most importantly, no deathblows. The goal is incapacitation or submission, not death. The trial ends only when one of the candidates physically submits, or is rendered fully incapacitated and can no longer continue.” Brynn said.Theodore and Lucius looked at each other, and Lucius gave a death smirk. He looked desperate to win, even if it meant breaking the rules.“Now listen to this essentia

Moira quickly went in and checked on her daughter. She saw that she was asleep, then noticed the empty glass of milk on the table, and felt relieved.Guests had started to arrive at the mansion, with the grand arena gradually filling up with people. It was already past 4 pm, and the council of elders had taken their seats. The hall was gigantic and tall, with a row of seats in the front of the arena, strictly reserved for the council of elders. There were specifically designed chairs for alphas and their betas, in another row, next to the council of elders, and then the other seats were for wolves of lower status. The Trial arena was a little bit lower down; those who sat looked down at the arena floor.Luke stood by the hall’s entrance to receive guests, while Brynn discussed with people he had not seen for a long time because of uncontrolled circumstances.“Master Graham,” Lucius bowed, “You are most welcome.”“Same as always, Luke, kudos to your skincare routine,” Graham said in sa

“Don’t tell me you haven’t missed this.” He grinned, hips moving in a slow tease under the fabric.Bianca smiled in amusement, “I think I miss you more.” She said. The following day, Moira stood by Brynn’s side in the study room, where she had been summoned.“It must be given within 3 to 3:30 pm tomorrow, no more than that. We can’t risk her stumbling into the trial.” Brynn said, handing a wrapped object to Moira,“We need her late enough to last the night, and early enough to wake up in time for her departure. No mistakes.”“Yes, master,” Moira said, her eyes furrowed in curiosity.“I would’ve done it myself, but she trusts you more.” He said, “You don’t have to worry, it would be over before she even begins to suspect.”It was now past 3 pm, and Moira had started to panic a bit. She had poured the whole contents of the bottle that Brynn had given her into Aurora’s glass of milk, only for Aurora to tell her that she wasn’t going to take milk until early in the morning. She had served
