Chapter 10

Jaxson’s POV

I couldn't believe it when I saw her walking away from me, her back turned, and an uncompromising stride in her step. My heart sank, and I quickly realized that Jane had no intention of stopping to talk to me.

"Jane!" I called out once again with my voice carrying a sense of urgency. But she didn't respond, didn't even glance back.

I watched her for a moment, frustration building inside me. I didn't want to cause a scene in the middle of the office, especially not to cost her her job.

With a heavy sigh, I turned and walked away, heading back to my friend's office. It wasn't the way I had hoped our first meeting would go after all these years of not seeing each other, but I couldn't understand her reluctance to engage with me.

As I entered my friend's office, I couldn't help but replay the encounter in my mind.

Jane's anger and coldness stung, but I couldn't blame her for feeling that way. After all, we never spoke after that heated night.
