MasukJessica’s POV
I nervously followed behind Sir Nick. My sister, Andrea, saw me. I'm in trouble. I thought she was in Europe for a business meeting. Dad doesn’t even know that I’m working for George, let alone for Nicholas. Our family and Nick’s family are in the same line of business. Yes, I am not a typical secretary. I am the daughter of Elmer Laviste and Matilda Laviste, the owners of Laviste Land Inc. My sister, Andrea Laviste, is a sharp businesswoman and the reason our company has grown even more. They never let me handle our company because they want me to focus on painting and the arts. To them, I am weak and not good at business, so they entrusted it all to my sister, Andrea. What they don’t know is that I’ve been working for George for almost a year now. I wanted to surprise them. I wanted to prove that I also have value in business, that I can help them, and that they can rely on me. I paced back and forth inside my room. I couldn’t stay still. What should I do? Dad might find out and send me home. That can’t happen. I still have so much to prove. And I can’t leave Sir Nicholas. I am a professional, and I don’t abandon my work. “I need to talk to my sister Andrea. Yes, I need to talk to her.” I hurried out of my room and went straight to the reception. I needed to find my sister’s room. Good thing Sir Nick wasn’t around. he was at the gym. "Hello, Miss, can I ask for the room number of Miss Andrea Laviste?" I quickly asked the receptionist. "Sorry, Ma’am, we are not allowed to disclose our.." "I am her sister," I interrupted before she could finish. "One moment, ma’am," she said, then made a call. "What is your name, ma’am?" she asked. "Jessica Laviste," I answered. "Room 205, ma’am, third floor," she replied. "Thank you!" I rushed into the elevator. After just one ring, my sister opened the door. "Get inside! What are you doing here?" she asked angrily. "Does Dad know you’re here? And why are you with Nicholas? Is he your boyfriend?" Her voice burned with fury. "Sis, no! He’s not my boyfriend." I saw her visibly relax when I said that. "So why are you with him?" she asked, her tone slightly calmer. "I’m his temporary secretary," I admitted. "What?! Secretary? Impossible! Nick never hires female secretaries because he despises them!" Her voice was so loud it nearly deafened me. "How did you become his secretary? Don’t tell me you’re one of his… fucking buddies’?" she asked, both angry and jealous. "Sis!, of course not!" I protested. "George recommended me to Nick. It’s only for four days, and then I won’t be his secretary anymore," I explained in detail. "Oh! So you and George are in on this together? That damn man. Why did he recommend you? Wait, you were supposed to be in London. Why are you here?" "It’s a long story. I work for George now. It’s complicated," I stammered, unsure where to start. "Go home. Right now!" she ordered authoritatively. "I can’t, Sis! Please, just two more days," I pleaded. She stared at me for a long time before sighing. It took her a while to speak again. "Okay, two days. Then you go home and admit everything to Dad, or else… you know what will happen." I happily hugged her and thanked her. I was about to leave when she suddenly said something. "Wait, can you save your paintings here? I have a friend who’s interested in your work. I want it now. Save it and bring it to me." "Yes!" I answered quickly, flustered. Excitedly, I grabbed the USB and rushed back to my room with Sir Nick. Luckily, he wasn’t back yet, so I was able to d******d pictures of my paintings from iCloud onto the USB. I hurried back to my sister’s room and gave it to her. When I returned to my room, I was surprised to see Sir Nick there, sweating as he drank water. He looked like he was in a commercial. I stared at him, mesmerized. "Where have you been?" His voice snapped me out of my thoughts. "With my sister… I mean, I got a blister," I blurted out. He stared at me, confused. Wait what? What did I say? "Excuse me, sir," I muttered before rushing to my room, clutching my chest. Shet, did he notice? Was it obvious that I was nervous? I took a deep breath and exhaled, still holding my chest. I grabbed my phone and called George. It rang twice before he picked up. "Hello, Jes! How are you?" he greeted cheerfully. "George, my sister is here. She saw me," I reported anxiously. "What? I thought she was in Europe! That’s why I was confident in letting you work for Nick," he said worriedly. "She’s here. Sorry, I accidentally mentioned your name to her. I was so confused. I didn’t know how to explain everything." "It’s okay. I’ll handle your sister. But did she make you go home?" he asked. "She told me to, right now. But I begged her for two more days. I explained everything, and she agreed." "Strange… that she agreed. Hmm… but you have to be careful," he warned. I didn’t understand why they were all warning me about my sister. Earlier, Sir Nick said the same thing. I said goodbye to George when I heard Sir Nick calling from outside. I opened the door and saw him fresh from a shower. "Let’s have dinner. We need to discuss tomorrow’s plans," he said before turning away. I hurriedly followed behind him.Audrey’s POV “Jess… thank you, thank you for visiting us, and your father,” Mommy Matilda said, her voice trembling, on the verge of tears.I stood there silently, forcing myself to keep the emotions threatening to spill under control. After I told Nick that I wanted to visit them, he was the one who set the date. He wanted to come with me, but I stopped him. I wanted to do this alone. Since he was worried because I’m pregnant, he asked Manong to accompany me instead. My eyes met Daddy’s. I could see the restraint in him, so many things he wanted to say, yet he remained silent. He was still in a wheelchair.“Good morning, Mom… Dad,” I greeted softly, almost in a whisper, my voice barely coming out.Mommy immediately pulled me inside and hugged me tightly, as if afraid I might disappear again. “Come, sit down,” she said, wiping her own tears.“Elsa, prepare some snacks for Jessica.”As I looked around, it felt as if the past came rushing back to me. Almost nothing had changed in the
Audrey’s POV I couldn’t help but squeal inside at the outfits of George, Carly, and Aiah. Aiah, oh my gosh, she was absolutely adorable. Her skirt was so cute, she looked like a little runway model.“Audrey!” Carly shouted as she ran toward me and wrapped me in a tight hug.“Ow, I love your shirt! You guys look so cute!” she said, pointing at our printed shirts.“Hehe, thank you! But I can’t compete with your outfits, you clearly planned everything,” I joked.George made a teasing gesture, a faint smile on his lips as he shrugged with his palms open, looking completely innocent. His expression practically said, Of course, who else?I laughed.“Hello, Audrey,” George greeted me with a kiss on the cheek. Nick just shook his head and smiled as he watched us.“Parents, visitors, guardians, and children, thank you all for coming today! In a minute, the program will begin,” the host announced on stage. We quickly fixed our seats and got ready for the start of Family Day.After the program,
Nick’s POVThe whole place is buzzing with noise. Colorful buntings hang from every corner of the school, and you can really feel the excitement and happiness in the air. I find myself smiling as I watch children running around, laughing freely.Today is Dylan’s Family Day. Audrey, Dylan, and I are about to enter the gym where the program will be held. We’re wearing matching navy blue t-shirts, khaki shorts, and white sneakers. There’s a printed picture on our shirts, a drawing made by Audrey herself. She also painted it, which gives it a truly personal touch. The moment we entered the school grounds, we were greeted by a photo booth at the entrance. We were about to head inside when an organizer holding a camera approached us.“Excuse me, sir, may I take a family picture of you? At the end of the event, we’ll be having a contest for Best Family Costume. Your t-shirts look amazing, the painting is beautiful,” she said with a smile.I looked at Audrey. She smiled back and nodded. “Of
Scarlett’s POVIf I had seen a scene like this before, I probably would have run immediately, without waiting for any explanation from George. But it’s different now.Even though my chest was screaming with pain and jealousy, I stayed there, standing. I chose to watch, to wait and see what would happen. So I almost breathed a sigh of relief when I saw George push the woman away from him. And when she spoke, all my anger toward him suddenly vanished, especially when I realized it was Denise. My eyes blazed. “This woman is really shameless,” I whispered sharply.I saw George’s shock and nervousness when he noticed me standing at the door. He approached, but I pretended to be angry. Yes, I was angry, but not at him. I was angry at Denise. My anger flared even more when I heard the words that woman had uttered. Yes, they hurt. They hurt because some of it was true. Because leaving George had been the biggest mistake of my life. But she had no right to rub it in my face.George was right.
George’s POVWe had already been in the meeting room for almost two hours. There was a lot that needed focus and attention.“How’s the progress on our project in the Visayas?” I asked.“Sir, the report about the hotel we’re building there just arrived. So far, no major damage to the building, even though it was hit by a 6.7-magnitude earthquake. There are still some aftershocks, but the hotel structure is holding up well.”I let out a sigh of relief at the report. I hadn’t slept all night after yesterday’s earthquake news. I immediately ordered an inspection for any possible major damages to the hotel, which is now 60% complete.“Good. Anything else?” I added.“That’s all for the agenda, Sir,” one of them replied. I nodded.“Then this meeting is adjourned.”I walked back to my office quickly. I noticed my secretary frowning.“Sir, I need to go down. I just have to pick up an important client,” she said nervously.I frowned, but since I didn’t need her at the moment, I just nodded.Whe
Scarlett’s POVOur gallery was closed today for the holiday, so I thought I’d surprise George. He said he had an urgent meeting, so he still came in. Even though I’m not really that good at cooking, I insisted on preparing something myself, I wanted him to feel special.I walked into the building with a smile, carrying a bag full of food. I was wearing my favorite long dress, simple yet elegant. I could feel a few pairs of eyes watching me as I walked straight to the receptionist.I left a message for George, I didn’t want to disturb his meeting with a call. When I reached the reception, I approached the front desk.“Good morning, I’m here to visit Mr. George David.”The receptionist smiled.“Your name, please?” “Scarlett Carlson.”He suddenly looked at the monitor, then back at me.“Ma’am, you don’t have an appointment. You’re not on the list.”I smiled, trying to stay calm. “Ah, okay. Can you contact his secretary for me? Kindly inform him that I’m here.”He nodded. “Sure, ma’am.
