LOGINKealan looked at me briefly before turning back to his business partners. “My wife, Catherine.” A warm smile touched my lips. For the very first time in three years, I was being introduced as myself, as Catherine. While Kealan remained absorbed in his business discussion, he quietly ordered a slice of cheesecake for me. I ate it slowly, savoring every bite. It was the first time in three years I was eating something I actually liked in front of him. I had been forced to act like Valentina for so long that I’d almost forgotten the things I used to enjoy. When the meeting wrapped up, we headed outside together. “I need to stop by the company,” Kealan said, glancing at me before looking at the driver. “He’ll take you home.” I nodded quietly. By the time I arrived, the mansion was dead silent, except for the quiet clatter coming from the dining room. Several servants were busy clearing away an unusual amount of leftover food. “What’s going on here?” I asked, pausing as I saw the
“How dare you say that, you shameless woman!” Valentina snarled, violently shoving my hand away. “You will pack your bags and get the hell out of here right now!” The commotion brought several servants rushing into the hallway. They hovered nervously, their eyes darting between us, clearly trying to figure out who was the real lady of the house. Seeing Valentina dressed in the exact style I used to wear, they naturally assumed she was their madam. “Madam, what’s wrong?” one of them asked cautiously. Valentina flashed me a triumphant, mocking smile. “Get this imposter out of my house. Now!” She pointed a trembling, furious finger at me. “I’m not doing this with you,” I said, letting out a lazy yawn and covering my mouth with my hand. “I’m going back to my room.” The servants’ eyes widened in shock the second I spoke. They recognized my voice instantly. Two of the younger servants stepped around Valentina and rushed over to my side. “Madam, we’re so sorry,” one whispered quickly.
“I said we have a deal, then.” He went silent for a moment. The only thing I could hear was the ticking of the clock in the quiet room before he spoke again. “Okay, Valentina...” he said in a mocking tone. “Oh, I mean Catherine. You’ve got a great brain on you.” I knew he said that just to piss me off. “I don’t—” I was about to talk back when my phone started vibrating. “My brother is calling. Can hang up.” “Once you’re ready to start, get back to me immediately. We can’t waste any time.” “Sure, I will.” The line cut off. I let out a breath I didn’t realize I had been holding. I reached for the clip in my hair, I pulled the clip from my hair and ran my fingers through it, letting the strands fall messy and loose around my face. I stared at the caller ID before answering. “Hello, Catherine! How are you doing? You know I miss you so much and I hate it here. Are you doing okay? How is my brother-in-law? Are you at home right now?” I laughed, my eyes welling up with tears just he
“Kealan, I want a divorce.” I slammed the papers on the desk to get his attention. Kealan looked up at me for a second and then continued working on his computer. “Kealan, I said I want a divorce.” This time my voice was firm. I tried to stand straight to keep my legs from trembling as I met his eyes. “Catherine, do you really want a divorce?” My eyes welled up with tears this was the first time he had said my name in our three years of marriage. “Valentina is back, so I don’t think I have a reason to still be her.” I noticed his expression change, but I couldn’t tell what was going on in his mind. “We signed a contract for three years,” he said, without even looking at me. “It’s been three years, Kealan. Plus, your wife is back from the dead.” He finally looked at me. “The contract clearly said three years, and there is still a month left.” He pushed his chair back and stood up. “The contract will be over in thirty days.” He turned to leave. He was halfway up the stairs when
