1. Set Up Again

Alice was awaken in the middle of the night denched in water, she gasped and sat up on the bed still a little drowsy from her sleep. She had no knowledge about what was going on, she lifted up her head and saw figures in front of her’ Am I seeing things already? Am I hallucinating?’ she asked herself as she used her little fragile fingers to rub her eyes.

Her family was standing over her, getting up from the bed, she sat at the edge of bed with her attention on her family.

She was surprised “ Dad, what is wrong”

She got up from the bed and approached her father, shockingly her father slapped her so hard instead that she fell down on the ground with a crash.

“You are a disgrace to this family, how dare you sleep with your sister’s fiancé ?”

Alice didn’t know what to say because she has no idea of what was going on

“But dad, what are you talking about”

“See for yourself you ungrateful bitch”

She saw some pictures of two couples who seems to be intimate on a bed, seeing the couples in such act, she blushed red. Being the virgin that she was, the pictures was an eyesore to her. But something caught her attention, she took a second look at the picture and made her sober up immediately.

The female looked just like her and the man was her sister’s fiancé Matthew. She gasped and turned to them in confusion.

When her mother threw the pictures at her, she sneered and hid a smile, and thought ‘ finally the bitch has fallen’, Nina thought to herself.

Alice was confused “ Mum I have no idea what is going on, I have never slept with Linda’s fiancé . I don’t even like that guy anymore”, ‘ I don’t have any feelings for him anymore. Not after he betrayed me in the most humiliating manner by going after my sister after dating for so long.’ She thought to herself.

Matthew Leej was her childhood sweetheart, who she used to adore and worship the floor he walks on. They dated for more than three years before he proposed to her. She was over the moon when it happened but being the naive girl she was, she didn’t know all that Matt was doing behind her back.

But cheated on her, he was using her all those years they were together to get close to her sister who was the ‘It girl’ of high school up to the university.

Matthew came from a very rich back ground, his father is M city’s renowned millionaire . The Leej family own a large range of properties, they were very powerful and influential.

Her sister was very beautiful but wicked and a great pretender. And most importantly, she was a seductress, power and money hungry. So it didn’t surprise her much when she readily agreed to date Matthew after he dumped her on her 18th birthday.

“ Don’t call me mother you bastard, your mother was a cheap woman who slept with my husband and gave birth you out of wedlock! I had to take care of you because she dead giving birth to you.”

Nina exclaimed angrily with a glare pointed at her.

Her sister Linda sneered at her and with hatred, she added the last blow” she’s at the Floor Cemetery under the name Mona S’Lene, that’s if you want to go meet her at the cemetery”.

Alice dropped into the ground ‘her alleged mother was buried at the cheapest part of the cemetery, she wondered what kind of woman she was’

She was Interrupted from her thought by a hand dragging her down the stairs

“Dad please I’m innocent, I didn’t do anything”

The door was opened and

She was thrown on the ground outside the mansion, ‘ Did I sleep with Matthew and forgot all about the moment? No! That’s not possible! I’m a virgin and will know if my virginity is broken.’ she questioned herself doubtfully.

She felt something dropped besides her and realized it was her luggage.

Her sister stood at the gate with a wicked smile before closing the door slowly. The smirk on Linda’s face was all she could think of as she sat in the dirty floor with her luggage beside her.

It was then that she knew she’d been set up again ‘I now understand why they don’t like me since I was a child and always want me out of the house and the family. The plotting and maltreatments suddenly made sense to her and the dislike and hatred feelings she got from Linda and Nina finally made sense to her. Her father has been the only one usually on her side and supporting her once a while to be in her good books but I guess he has also had enough and gave her to lions’

She stood there, helpless and speechless ‘ where did I go wrong? Am I so unlucky? Gosh!’, she questioned herself with a head shake in disappointment.

She banged at the door pleading for mercy and begging but all fell into deaf ear and finally, she gave up and took her luggage.

She stood under the street light crying her heart out and suddenly she realized why she never fit in, why they always maltreated her, and why she doesn’t look like anyone of them.

She hiccuped and choked on her tears when other things made more sense to her now. No wonder none of the family members liked her nor approached her when they meet at family gatherings. She was practically on her own.

She was 20years old and was still in the university, how was she going to cope with being jobless, homeless and with little savings to go with, she sighed bitterly

Looking back at the mansion, she only had one thought in mind,‘ what do I do now?’
