“Baine, where could she have run off to?”
“We will find her, honey. All of the warriors are out looking for her now.”
“It’s been five hours since she left the coven house. The rogue activity has been at an all-time high for the last couple of months, they could kill her!”
“Athena!” My husband grabbed my shoulders, holding me in place.
“That is very far from the truth and you know it! Our girls may be young but they are fighters, they have trained their whole lives to protect themselves.”
“Don’t you dare snap at me!” I pushed myself out of my husband’s grip.
“My child is missing and the only thing you have to say is that she can take care of herself!”
“I’m sorry to tell you buddy boy, but training to fight and fighting are two completely separate things!”
Baine rubbed his face and took a deep breath before he spoke.
“Yes, honey, I know and I’m sorry, but I’m just as scared for her as you but worrying to death isn’t helping either one of us.”
I knew he was right, but I would never admit it willingly.
“You better find her Baine! If I have to find her, I can’t promise I will leave everyone alive in my wake!”
I turned on my heels to go find the rest of my girls.
Man, that woman drives me up the wall.
How was I supposed to know exactly where our teenage brat ran off to?
I love my girls, but man, oh man, do they have their mother’s smart-ass mouth and stubbornness.
I was sure Melia was just cooling down somewhere.
We dropped a lot of unsettling information into her lap and we both knew it wasn’t something that any of the girls were just going to readily accept.
For goddess sake, their whole world just got turned upside down.
They learned that I, the man that they have known their whole life, isn't their biological father.
They learned that they are most likely wolves because of their Alpha wolf sperm donor.
They are now supposed to leave their coven and their lives to live with a strange man in his pack whom they know nothing about.
We didn’t prepare them for this!
I knew we were being selfish for keeping this secret hidden for so long, but Athena was so sure that the goddess would give Alpha August a second chance to mate, just like she had been blessed with.
That way he could have a new heir to his pack and he would leave our girls here with us.
But we were wrong and now look at this mess.
The Alpha just comes bursting into our territory whenever he wants.
Maisie was having a mental breakdown, Melia was nowhere to be found and then there was Athena and she might rip some poor sap's head clean off their shoulders.
Believe me, I've seen her do it!
Why hadn't I just been blessed with boys?
That man was going to be the death of me!
I cursed my husband silently as I stomped my way up the coven house stairs.
"Why in the goddess's name do we have so many gosh damn steps?
When I finally reached the girl's room, the fight had all but been drained out of me and all I had left with was sadness.
How did I let this get so far?
"Masiana!" I knocked as I stepped into her bedroom.
Without a response, I climbed into bed with her, wrapping her in a full-body hug.
At first, she tensed but quickly relaxed against me.
I buried my face into her neck and silently we stayed like that for a very long while.
When Maisie finally wiggled out of my embrace and turned around to face me, she kissed me on the nose.
"You know your hugs are the best types of hugs even if you are like an octopus with your arms and legs twisted all around me," she said with a giggle.
"I know! It was the only way I was able to calm you girls down when you had nightmares after your aunt's passed. I honestly thought you would grow out of them by now but I'm glad you haven’t".
"Mama, I don't know if we ever really will."
I kissed my sweet girl on the forehead.
"Tell me what is going on behind them, beautiful sapphire blue eyes, jelly bean?"
Maisie sucked in a deep breath and puffed her cheeks out before she spoke.
"Why did you wait so long to tell us that dad isn't our dad? That some man we have never met is and he turns into a dog."
"First of all, your dad will always be your dad, and second, Alpha August is a good man jelly bean. In another life, he was the love of my life and he gifted me with the most beautiful little girls I have ever seen. I know this is all very scary for you girls, but he has waited eighteen years to see and hold his only children. It's going to take some getting used to but just give him a chance. He is going to teach you about this whole other part of yourself that you didn't even know existed. I may have only been a wolf for a short while, but it was the only time I ever truly felt free in my whole life. Like I could finally just be me."
"Wait and see jelly bean! You have no clue what life has in store for you, but you can't hide under these covers forever."
"I'm scared mom."
"You're supposed to be jelly bean. I was too, but that's what makes it an adventure."
"Do I have to go?"
"Maisie, I won't force you to leave your home, but you should think about what you're missing out on. Eventually, your wolf will come and I will be unable to teach you about that part of yourself."
She opened her mouth to protest.
"Just think about it, jelly bean. I have to go check if anyone has located Melia." I interrupted her.
"What do you mean, where did she go?"
"I'm not sure, she ran out of the house six hours ago and no one has heard from her since."
"What!" Maisie jumped from the bed.
"We have to find her, it's going to get dark soon."
"Calm down Maisie, all the warriors are out looking for her as we speak. I have to go find your father, but I will be back soon. Stay put, I mean it!" I warned my daughter as I made my way out of her room.
"MELIA, PLEASE. PLEASE WAKE UP. MELIA, NOW!" a voice was screaming at me.
When I lifted my head to try and clear out all the fog in my brain, I was met with piercing red eyes staring back at me.
Startled, I jumped to my feet.
"Hello, they're beautiful! What are you doing out here all alone?" An eerie-looking man smirked as he turned his head to the side like he was trying to get a better look at me.
My skin automatically crawled and I shuttered.
He reached his hand out to me and I jumped back before he could touch me.
"Hmm, a unique little thing, aren't you?"
"If I can't compel you to come with me, then I'll just have to take you by force." The man twisted his face into a vile sneer.
"Don't touch me!" I warned.
As he started to circle me, he tapped his long skinny finger on his ghostly pale chin.
"Only the very old and most powerful of our kind can not be compelled by me. You must have ancient blood running through those veins of yours to be so young and yet so powerful. Yes, very special indeed!"
"I can't place your scent little one, you're like nothing I have ever smelt before, almost intoxicating."
For just a split second, he tensed his shoulders and I knew he was going to try and pounce.
I stepped to the right, barely missing his assault. Quickly, I extend my hand palm side up, creating a large fireball, forcing space between the two of us.
"You're a witch! It can't be." He hissed.
"You have to the count of three to walk away or I promise that only one of us will be walking away from this fight alive and it isn't going to be you." I spat at him as I raised my other hand, causing the fireball to grow larger.
Satisfied with the fact that he wasn’t able to take me alive, he did the next best thing.
"I'll be back little one, you haven't seen the last of me just yet." He threatened.
As he stared at me with those vile blood-red eyes and a stomach-twisting smirk that screamed serial killer, he slowly backed away from me, retreating deep into the forest.
My whole body shuttered with disgust before my knees gave out.
MELIA POVI opened my mindlink."Roxy, can you hear me?""Melia, where are you?""Rox, I'm at the corner of the territory next to the standing stones. Will you please come and get me? I'm beat!""I'm on my way."I closed my mindlink as I waited for Roxy to come and save my ass."Mia."Without any questions, Roxy pulled my arm around her neck and helped me to her cottage. "Lightning or Thunder?" Roxy questioned."Lightening"Roxy smirked but said nothing."Lay down for a little bit and I'll get Abuela's broom."I couldn't help but chuckle."Shut it, you know it helps." Roxy raised her eyebrows at me as she walked back into the room with her Nana’s old handmade broom.Roxy started shuffling around the room, sweeping forcefully. As she kicked up a mass amount of energy in my direction, it shimmered and sparkled in the setting sun's light that was shining through the window.I couldn't help but belly laugh at her as all the energy literally swept her up off her feet."Alright, alright, t
MELIA POVSpending a night with Roxy cleared my head. I had to go home to face my mother at some point or she would hunt me down and drag me home. But what exactly was I to say to her?I couldn’t believe she would hide something like that from us.I get what she did was forbidden, but to bind our wolves so that she could keep us in the dark just pissed me off.She was the one that chose to do things that she knew were wrong and I could even forgive her for that, but to wait until we were eighteen then and say "Oh, yeah, by the way, you're a werewolf and you have to be Luna to some strange man's pack" that was supposedly our biological father was just so messed up on a dozen different levels.I could always run away or refuse to do any of what they are asking.I wasn't exactly sure what the consequences of that would be, but I am now an adult and I refuse to let anyone make any more decisions for me!I sighed and let out a breath I hadn't even realized I was holding. On the other hand,
MELIA POVI couldn't breathe, something was clawing at my neck and face.I sat straight up in bed, feeling for any claw marks on my neck. What a terrifying dream I had been having. I hated feeling like I couldn't breathe like I was being suffocated or drowned."Please moon goddess don't let me go out that way!"I let out a yawn and stretched before I threw my covers off and got to my feet. I looked down at myself. Why was I wearing day clothes? Where were my pj's?I looked around my room and nothing seemed to be out of place, so I decided to get ready for the day.As I walked towards my bathroom, I walked past my window and I didn't see any light trying to escape from underneath my curtains. Wait a second, was it dark outside?I started to panic.Something was wrong.I turned on my heels, moving towards my bedroom door. I had to find my mom.The door was locked. What in the hell was going on here? I was really starting to freak out, pounding on my door."Hello, what the hell is go
ATHENA POV "High Priestess." Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I opened my mindlink. "Good Morning Marty!" "Good Morning Ma'am. I'm sorry to disturb you so early but Alpha August is at the front gate requesting to speak to you." "Thank you Marty, I'll be right there." I closed off my mindlink. If August wasn't the biggest pain in my ass! I shimmered to the front gate. "WHAT?" "Good morning to you too, Athena." "Kiss my ass August! It's way too early for your bullshit." "Don't tempt me." August cut his eyes at me. If I wasn't so irritated with him I'd have blushed. "I guess you might as well come in since you insist on being such a nuisance." August belly laughed as he strolled through the front gate, then smiled that bread-winning smile directly at me. He had always looked just like a movie star. Perfect complexion, perfect white teeth, silver-green eyes, high cheekbones, square jaw, and a whole head full of thick silver hair that he has had since birth, I've been told.
MELIA POVHow could I have burnt my mom, was I really that angry with her? Yes, I was upset with her, but I would never hurt her intentionally, would I? I had tried all night to remember what happened but it was all still blank. I remember getting upset, I remember trying to put out my flames on dad's couch and even seeing mom and Nana appear next to me but then nothing. Why couldn't I remember anything? I remember an itchy, burning sensation all over my body, but then everything got really cool like I walked into the coven house's walk-in freezer. And what about Dean? I stood him up on our very first date and I didn't even mean to. If he liked me even a little he definitely doesn't now. I'll never be able to show my face at training again.I buried my head into my pillow and screamed. "Girls, I need you to meet me in the garden for breakfast in 10 minutes"My mom's voice was speaking like a megaphone in my already aching head.I opened my mindlink."Mom, is there any way I could p
MELIA POV "Melia honey wake up. Why are you asleep in the middle of the afternoon?" Nana shook my shoulder, trying her best to wake me. "Sorry Nana, I shimmered today and it wiped me out." I yawned and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. "My brilliant girl, I knew you could do it!" Nana chirped happily as she pulled me into a hug. "Okay Tootsie, what else do you need on your charm bracelet?" Nana questioned as she released me from her grasp. "I'm not sure, but I don't know if I'll be coming back. So I would like to be prepared for anything if at all possible. Will you help me?" "Of course! Okay, so what are your favorite weapons? Do you have a camera? You will need your crystals and my broom. Grab a couple more potion bottles for easy access. Okay, I can't think of anything else, but I have a very special set of charms just for you. They're one of a kind, so don't you dare lose them!" Nana warned. "Put everything on your bed and stand back." *** After all my new additions we
MELIA POV "So it's true all three of you are leaving?" Vera was the first to blurt out once Nana was gone. "Unwillingly", Maisie whined. "Yes, two of us will get the chance to return in a year's time and the third won't return to live here but will always be a part of the coven, so she will be free to come and go as she pleases between the pack and coven." I tried to explain as I was shooting a stern look at Maisie. Kira, Lily, and Vera shuffled their feet in place but didn't look up to meet my eyes. "It's going to be alright, you three have each other and once we are settled in I will ask the Alpha if you guys can come for a weekend visit." I tried to cheer them up. "It's the first time we will be split up." Lily finally met my eyes. I sighed in defeat because I knew there was nothing I could say or do to make Lily's words untrue. We have been raised together since the day we were born. I can't remember a time in the last eighteen years that we have been separated for more tha
MELIA POVThe man in the passenger seat got out and opened the back door. The two men sitting next to Alpha August ducked out of the SUV before the Alpha slid out behind them. All five of them were standing at the doors waiting for my sisters and I to make a move.I took a deep breath, then slid off the seat and out of the SUV. Margot and Maisie followed."Welcome home my beautiful girls, I can't believe today is finally the day I get to hold you in my arms." An older gentleman that looked almost identical to Alpha August if Alpha August was twenty years older with salt and pepper hair, pulled us into a massive bear hug."Alright, pops don't squash them on their very first day." Alpha August teased as he patted the older man on the back."So sorry my girls, I'm a little overly enthusiastic to finally get to meet you. We have been waiting for this day for quite some time". The old man beamed with a tremendous amount of joy and pride as he gazed at each of us."Girls, this is your grand
