Chapter 6 The Art of Elegance in Insults

Yaslyn identified the voice on the other end of the line as Xoan's and promptly refused, saying, "No need. I've already had a meal with Mr. Lawson outside."

After hanging up, Mr. Lawson heaved a laugh from the other side of the table. He was not one for gossip. He only discovered the reason behind Yaslyn's visit to the company that morning from her.

"Yaslyn," he began, "I've met all five young masters of the Warren family. If you ask me, Xoan is the standout. Over these years as president, he's landed numerous big projects. He's incredibly reliable and excellent. He might be worth giving some serious consideration."

Yaslyn took a sip of water, her face instantly full of resistance.

"No, no, no, Mr. Lawson. He's cold and distant. Who would want that man as a husband?"

In Yaslyn's eyes, Xoan was unapproachable and aloof. Her words from that morning were only meant to get under his skin.

Mr. Lawson broke into hearty laughter. The conversation then meandered to the other members of the Warren family. After having lunch and returning to the company, Yaslyn spent the rest of her afternoon in the security booth as usual.

Upon concluding the afternoon meeting, Xoan inquired about Yaslyn's whereabouts from his assistant. Learning that she was still at the security booth, he knitted his brows slightly. Did the woman not declare him her favorite that morning? However, she had spent the whole day in the security room after coming to the company. What was she playing at?

Seated at his desk, Xoan paused momentarily before instructing, "Investigate Mr. Lawson's background and determine his relationship with Yaslyn."

"Yes, President," his assistant responded.

Just as his assistant was about to leave, Xoan added another order. "Bring Yaslyn up here."

It was not long before Yaslyn arrived. She surveyed Xoan's office before inquiring with an air of indifference, "What do you need?"

"You've spent an entire day in the security room. Father wouldn't be pleased to hear about this."

Hearing his reasoning, Yaslyn rolled her eyes.

"Fine. Remember, you asked me to come up here, so don't blame me if I bother you."

With that, she nonchalantly settled herself on the sofa.

Xoan did not respond, focusing instead on the paperwork in front of him. Meanwhile, Yaslyn sat on the sofa, engrossed in a game on her phone, with the volume turned up high.

Xoan frowned slightly.

Eight minutes later, the sound of Yaslyn cursing her teammates echoed through the room.

"Stop feeding the enemy!

"Would you kindly use your hands to play, not your feet?"

Xoan sighed inwardly.

While her insults had a certain elegance to them, the recipients of her tirade promptly shot back, their words laced with profanity. At this moment, Xoan truly regretted bringing Yaslyn into his office. She was here solely to torment him, was she not?

He began to wonder if Yaslyn did not actually like him the most but rather disliked him the most. No, she probably disliked Marcus more.

Fortunately, the game ended just as Xoan finished his work. He grabbed his coat and motioned for Yaslyn to leave with him.

They had just reached the door when his assistant returned. Xoan glanced at her and directed Yaslyn, "Wait for me in the garage."

Yaslyn nodded and left.

Inside the office, the assistant began her report. "President, Mr. Lawson indeed has a unique background. He owns many central properties and office buildings in Jefferson City."

In short, he was a billionaire landlord who was so bored that he decided to work as a security guard.

"As for what connection Ms. Lyon has with him, I couldn't find any information as of yet."

Hearing that, Xoan fell into a moment of contemplation. How did Yaslyn come to know such a person in Jefferson City?

Adding to last night's incident with Wade, Xoan had a faint feeling that Yaslyn was no ordinary woman.

However, he did not dwell on it. It was not his concern. All he needed to ensure was that Mr. Lawson harbored no ill intentions.
