LOGIN"There's nothing I can do now." I stared at Alex, not knowing why I'm telling him everything. "Marry me Alice," he paused, coming closer to me, "I have enough power for you to fight." The last thing I wanted was another marriage, but I had the most advantage. I get to be seen as the wife of this smoking hot man, no, that's not important. I get to fight my ex husband and get rid of what he has on me.

I curled up on the sofa, laughing a bit too loudly at the comedy TV show I've been watching for close to two hours now. My eyes went up to the wall clock_ 11:20pm! I picked up my phone to call Edward again, but then I heard his car at the driveway. “I thought you'd sleep in your office,” I smiled at my joke as he walked in, expecting him to laugh as he always does. But his face held no emotion of such sort. “Is something wrong, honey?” I strode towards him in worry, loosening his tie. “Nothing is wrong. I'm just tired,” he said, slumping into the couch. “I'll get you a cup of water.” When I returned with a glass of water, Edward held a file in his hand. “We should talk Alice.” “About?” I sat close to him, curious about the file. He handed it to me, and the contents left me in my most confused state. “Let's get a divorce.” His voice came calm, shattering the silence between us. “Wha.. what do you mean?” “You heard me, Alice.” “Why are we getting divorced?” I inquired, getting a bit impatient. “Are you stressed? If you're stressed about anything, we can talk it out. But this? You can't just come back and decide to divorce out of the blue. Does that even make sense?” I shook my head, handing the file back to him. “Alice, don't make this harder than it is,” he stood up and faced me, “I've had these papers for a month now. I'm not stressed, neither do I still want you. You want to know why we're getting divorced?” he snickered, “it's because I already have someone else, someone that makes me feel alive.” “Oh,” he turned to me again, “she's pregnant too.” “Wh..what do you….,” the word stuck in my throat, his words painfully registering. I stared blankly at the door as he turned and left. What just happened? My eyes slowly trailed to the table where I had set wine and glasses to celebrate our fifth year anniversary. Did he even remember it's our anniversary, or was it also part of the plan to tell me those years did not matter. Tears filled my eyes, and as much as I tried to hold it back, it ran down my cheeks. I felt a lump on my chest, as I whimpered in pain. Then the nausea hit, and I felt dizzy. *********************************************** I woke up to beeping of machines, and sterile scent of antiseptic. Hospital. I am in the hospital. “Alice! You are awake!” I heard my old housekeeper, Beth, say with relief. “What happened?” I sat up, looking around. “You fainted in the sitting room. I heard a loud thud and came down, only to see you in that state. I was really scared.” Tears formed in her eyes. “I’m sorry for making you worry.” Beth has been with me almost all my life. She worked for my mum, and continued taking care of me even when my parents passed. And still stayed with me as I got married. “The doctor said you had a panic attack, and your blood pressure spiked. Have you been under a lot of stress?” It all suddenly came to me again. Edward's sudden divorce, and his announcement about his new woman. I sighed. “I already called Mr. Edward and he said he will come later,” she added. I scoffed. “He might as well want me dead,” I muttered under my breath. “What did you say?” “Nothing.” I shook my head. I can't bring myself to tell her what is going on between us for now. I lay back quietly, thoughts I had kept out, slowly clouding my mind. No matter how much I think about it, I couldn't figure it out. I met Edward in my final year at college. When I first met him he was bubbly and cheerful, and was persistent in getting to be my friend. More than anything I liked how he made me feel, safe and loved. That was why a year after we graduated, I said yes to his proposal. He always looked at me like he wouldn't survive without me. We had a lot in common…. TV shows, sleeping in, favourite toothpaste too! I blinked. And tears fell. Shit! I cursed. Quickly wiping it off my face. Why am I crying? Just then Beth walked in with food. “Here, eat this. I'll go back home and get a few things you'll need for the night.” “Thank you.” An hour later, my back was against the door when someone walked in. “Beth, are you back already?” I asked, only turning to see Edward. With a redhead beside him! It's always the redheads. I stared blankly at him, as they came closer. “Heard your blood pressure spiked.” No response. “Here. I brought the papers for you to sign. And this is Claire.” He was clearly excited. Excitement I haven't seen in a while, and I thought it was work stress from his promotion to director. I took the file from him, and glanced through the contents. It was okay until my eyes caught something. “What is all this? Why are you taking everything?” I asked in shock, my eyes not leaving the papers. “I'm taking everything that is mine.” He gave a smug smile that made me want to kill him. “The house, the building, the joint account and even the company shares that I gave you!” “It’s all mine now.” He said with the same tone that infuriated me. “I won't take this. I'll speak to my lawyer tomorrow.” I glared at him. “Leave!” Claire stepped forward, throwing a phone on the bed. “I think you have to see that video.” She said, smiling. I picked up the phone and my eyes widened in disbelief. What am I seeing? Why am I in bed with another man? And naked!(ALICE'S POV).I tossed uncomfortably as my phone rang, pulling a pillow to cover my ears. But whoever is calling, sure is persistent. I sat up, picking up the phone and it was Jordan.“Don’t tell me you are still asleep. It’s way past ten.” His background sounded noisy like he was in the market, which only added to my pounding headache.“I told you yesterday was a bad idea.”“It really was. I mean… you had a lot to say about Claire.”“What about her?” I rolled my eyes.“What? Don’t tell me you don’t remember?”“Remember what Jordan. My head is in a total mess right now… I don’t even remember my own name.”“Alice. Your name is Alice. You should go wash your face, and get some hangover medicine.”The last thing I’d be doing this morning is leaving my bed. I feel like being in the bed all day, except the headache won’t let me.“Come on Jordan, can you just tell me?”“I mean I was drunk too, so I only heard part of the many things you said. By the way, her husband was so pissed.”“Edward
(ALICE'S POV).Next morning was awkward, tension clouding the whole penthouse. I did my best to avoid him, but how could I, it was his fucking house, and my fucking husband!“Morning.” He greeted with the same sexy morning voice that always sends heat to my belly. But now, I didn’t care about the effects.I nodded. I was on a mission to not talk to him, till whenever.“You look good. Team dinner later?” he spoke again.I wore navy blue blazers, white knee length boots, and a black mini bag to match. My hair was tied into a messy bun, and a light makeup adorned my face. I knew I looked good, and he was right, we have a team dinner later. But I wasn’t ready to talk to him. I grabbed an apple from the fruit basket and headed out, wondering how his face looked like behind me at my lack of acknowledgement. I met Jordan at the entrance, and seeing him made me feel guilty again. I don’t know what Alex is thinking, but I knew it was entirely my fault for bringing him up. I mean he has the p
(ALEX POV) ‘Jordan. Who the fuck is Jordan?’ I scoffed, throwing myself lazily on the bed. I dialed Brad’s number, my personal assistant.“ Mr. Alex. Is anything wrong?” his voice sounded worried from the other end, and I would not even blame him, cos why was I calling him at this hour.“ No… no, nothing is wrong. I just want you to help me look into something.”“ What is it? I can look into it right away.” I could hear his sheets shuffle in the background; he was getting out of bed.“ Don’t worry. I will text you the details, you can look it up tomorrow.” As much as I wanted to know who Jordan was, I’m pretty sure I could wait till the next day. I swallowed whatever curiosity I had and went to bed.The next morning, I still have not gotten Jordan off my mind. But I still have more pressing priorities to attend to. I was going to meet with international clients for a construction project in place of my grandma. So, I moved to our villa to have a talk with her.“ These are the final
(ALICE'S POV).I sat opposite Alex, staring a hole at the food in front of me.“ How was your first day?” he asked, jolting me back.“ I mean it was… cool… except I was introduced to the team during lunch break.” He gave a short laugh.“ Why was that?”“ Apparently, they were so very busy when I came in the morning. Something about a huge project.” I shrugged. He nodded. “ don’t worry, you’ll fit in just fine.”Well, I guess fitting in is never going to happen for me. Not after knowing that Claire is the head of design. She wasn’t surprised to see me, of course she’d be the first to know that a new intern will be joining the team.(FLASHBACK)“ Oh, our new intern!”“ What are you doing here?” I asked, a very stupid question by the way.“ I’m an intern too, duh” she laughed.I got closer, dropping the files on her desk and turned to leave.“ You are at rock bottom Alice.” I turned. “ You should also know that you are never going to permanently work here. Not on my watch.”I scoffed. “
(ALICE.) My eyes trailed up the double height ceilings. The glass, the furniture, the aesthetics. One word. Majestic. I quickly tore my eyes down, following Alex to the living room, my eyes doing a quick glance around the floor. I wanted my eyes to linger a bit, because who glances around a fuc
(ALICE’S POV) “What was that?” I clicked my door shut, leaning on it for a sec. My hand flew to my face, rushing over to the mirror to see my red face. “I hope he didn’t see that!” “He’s pleading early as my husband? Seriously, did he have to whisper it? He totally caught me off guard.” I m
(ALEX’S POV)I watched her silently across the table. The utter surprise on her face when I asked her to marry me was gone. She let my last sentence hang by a fragile thread above us, as she continued eating. I prepared myself for rejection. Of course, even though she had more advantage marrying me
(ALICE) My heels clicked softly on the stairs as I gracefully descend into Alex’s gaze. The silk emerald green dress, the silver heels, the silver jewelries he got me and a sleek designers purse completed my look. “You look beautiful,” he said, extending his hands towards me to help me down.
