Chapter 1

Author: Twinkle Twinkle
The food that my fiancee, Winona Ziegler, ordered arrived half an hour after the order was placed.

She eagerly placed the king crabs worth over 1,000 dollars in front of her childhood sweetheart, Caeden Gardner, then set a huge serving of premium seafood boil right by his hand.

Then, she pushed a glass of plain water toward me. "Ansel, don't just sit there. Have some water! Plain water is good for you. Aren't you always going on about staying healthy?"

Caeden looked at the table full of seafood, then at the glass of water in front of me, looking troubled. "Winnie, this doesn't feel right. Ansel doesn't have anything to eat at all. Why don't we give him some of the king crabs—"

Winona cut him off immediately. "Cade, don't worry about him! He's just greedy. Your stomach isn't well, and you've suffered so much abroad. You need to eat something good to replenish yourself."

With that, she put on disposable gloves, skillfully cracked open a king crab claw, and placed it on Caeden's plate.

I stared at that crab claw.

Last week, I had a high fever and wanted a hot meal. But Winona complained that delivery fees were too expensive and told me to just go to the kitchen and have some cereal. Now, she'd just dropped 1,000 dollars without batting an eye.

After the meal, the table was littered with seafood scraps.

Caeden leaned back on the couch and rubbed his lower back. "Maybe it's jet lag, but my back feels a tad sore."

Winona immediately grew anxious. Not even bothering to take off her gloves, she said, "Cade, your back hurts? I'll buy you a massage chair and have it delivered to the door right away."

She grabbed her phone and opened a shopping app. "How about this one for five thousand dollars? It has the most complete features. I'll order it now."

But when she entered the pin number to make the payment, a red exclamation mark popped up on the screen.

"Payment failed."

She froze for a moment, then tried again. Still, it failed.

Winona's brow furrowed, and she turned to glare at me. "Ansel, did you secretly cancel the card? Why can't I pay for a massage chair? Are you really such a miser?"

I sat at the dining table, looked at the confirmation in my banking app that her card had been successfully frozen, and calmly turned off the screen.

"It might have hit the spending limit and gotten flagged by the bank's risk control system. I'll go to the bank tomorrow and ask about this."

Winona eyed me suspiciously, her expression sour. "Of all times, it had to get flagged right when Cade needed it. You did this on purpose, didn't you?"

Caeden sighed beside her, putting on a show of being understanding. "Winnie, forget it. Don't blame Ansel. Five thousand dollars isn't a small amount. I can do without the massage. I'll just tough it out."

But because of the pitiful act he put on, Winona felt even more sorry for him. She shot me a look of pure disgust.

"Cade, you're just too nice! That's why people take advantage of you!"

She stood up, pointed at the master bedroom door, and issued me an order. "Cade needs to adjust to the time difference. Since the bed in the master bedroom is softer, he'll sleep there tonight. You can go sleep in the guest room."

"Ansel… I was wrong. I was so wrong. Please forgive me. Let's start over. I'll listen to you from now on... I'll do whatever you say…"I looked at her, cowering and begging, and felt nothing but calm."Mr. Barclay," I said, turning to Dexter beside me. "I'm not accepting any settlement. Expedite the asset

Caeden finished his tirade, grabbed his suitcase, and walked out of the room without looking back.Winona collapsed onto the floor, trembling as she pulled out her phone to call Prudence."Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently busy."Then, she sent a text message, only for a single gray check mark to pop up. Prudence had blocked her. In fact, it wasn't only Prudence. Every single one of her friends in the group chat who used to flatter her had left the group. She had been completely abandoned.Winona was left with nowhere to turn. But suddenly, her eyes lit up with hope. "The car! There's still the car!"When we got engaged, I had bought a 300-thousand-dollar Mercedes in full and registered it under her name. She immediately grabbed the vehicle registration document and rushed to a used car dealership. "Sir, I need to sell this car urgently. 250 thousand dollars, and it's yours!"The used car dealer had just finished verifying the paperwork and was about to sign the con

Within just ten minutes of the clarification being posted, public opinion underwent a dramatic reversal. The sentiment in the comments section shifted in an instant."Holy crap! 870 thousand dollars! That's not a girlfriend—that's a leech!""A thousand dollars on seafood for her male bestie, but she wouldn't even let her fiance have a five-dollar caramelized onion soup? I'm disgusted!""Using someone else's money to book hotel rooms and fund another man, and then having the nerve to turn around and accuse him of domestic violence? Those bruises were probably drawn on with eyeshadow!""Extorting 500 thousand dollars? That's a minimum sentence of three years! OP should be filing a police report ASAP!"In the company group chat, Franklin, who had previously been urging me to give in to Winona's demands, quietly deleted his previous messages. Even a few colleagues who usually didn't see eye to eye with me switched sides."Mr. Leyland's been through so much. I can't believe he was ent

I walked to the window and looked down.Francine was sitting on the floor of the lobby, holding up a white poster with bold black lettering. "Ansel Leyland Stole My Daughter's Best Years! Fire the Domestic Abuser!"A crowd of onlookers had gathered around her.I picked up my phone and called the head of security. "Don't stop her. Let her make a scene. Make sure you point the surveillance cameras at her, record everything with audio and video, and keep the evidence. Then call 911 and report someone causing a public disturbance."After I hung up, I received a text message from Winona. "Ansel, you're a manager of some rank at your company. I'm sure you wouldn't want this to become industry-wide news, right? "I'm giving you one last chance. Transfer 500 thousand dollars as compensation for emotional distress to my account, and I'll tell everyone online that it was all a misunderstanding. You owe me as much for five years of my youth. Don't make me take this all the way."I looked

Those words hit Winona like slaps to the face. She turned to look at Caeden as if he were her last lifeline. "Cade, say something! Don't you know a bunch of influential lawyers?"Caeden stood by the couch, his face ashen. He was humiliated to the core and didn't hesitate to distance himself completely. "Winnie, what's going on here? You told me this place was yours. If I'd known it belonged to someone else, I would have never moved in!"With that, he turned and walked into the master bedroom, quickly stuffing a few pieces of his clothing into his suitcase."Cade! Don't leave, Cade!" Winona broke down, collapsing onto the floor in tears.Mason stood to the side, watching her coldly. "Ma'am, you have ten minutes to gather your personal belongings. After that, we'll be forced to take action."Ten minutes later, Winona and Caeden were escorted out the door, dragging a few messy suitcases behind them. Her face streaked with tears, Winona glared at me. She spat through gritted teeth,

  • Using My Card to Pamper Her Old Flame   Chapter 5

Winona didn't see me holding the property deed and begging for forgiveness. Instead, she saw the two uniformed police officers behind me, both with body cameras clipped to their chests, and beside them, a locksmith carrying a heavy sledgehammer and an electric drill. The music was still blasting from the living room. Caeden and a few friends were raising their glasses, but when they looked over, the smiles on their faces froze in place.Winona stood frozen for a full three seconds before forcing an ugly smile onto her face, trying to pass this off as a private matter. "Ansel, why did you bring the police? Are you trying to play the victim now?"She lowered her voice and glared at me, hissing through gritted teeth, "Get them out of here right now! Don't embarrass me in front of Cade's friends! Hurry up and come inside to apologize to Cade!"Seeing her still putting on airs even when disaster was staring her in the face, I ignored her. I walked straight past her, unzipped the black b
