Chapter Thirty-Six

She had spent a restless night sleeping, tossing and turning as the fear that her game with Damien was about to be discovered by the one person who could bring it all to ruin nagged at her mind. Holly remained for another hour, both of them draining the bottle of wine, and then left, not feeling any better about her suspicions. Valerie had wanted to rush to her phone and text Damien, warning him about what had just happened, that they were about to be busted, but fought the urge. With her luck, Holly would have walked into the apartment just as Damien texted back, and her suspicions would have shot through the roof. Besides, Valerie didn’t want there to be any evidence on Damien’s phone in case Holly picked it up and scrolled through everything, like a suspicious partner would be wont to do. When a woman’s radar had been kicked into high gear, she would do anything to prove her notions right. Valerie refused to give her the ammunition to shoot them down.
