My face burned with embarrassment and shame. The thought of being purchased like a piece of property by an ex-lover I had previously broken up with, was humiliating.

‘I mean, what other reduction was there that was worse than what I have been reduced to?’ I thought angrily, the anger making it almost difficult to breathe.

It didn't take long to remember that, though I was still the same Ava, the Vampire Queen on the inside, I was Ava, the wolfless omega and blood slave, on the outside. As disgusting as it made me feel, I was somewhat relieved that, at least, my face wasn't recognizable; it would be worse if he knew I was his ex.

Not surprising, the slave traders, on the other hand, were overjoyed beyond bounds, nodding their heads like mentally deranged patients.

They hadn't expected to sell me so quickly; it was a huge gain on their side. They wouldn't have to spend any money on me, yet they would make a handsome profit from selling me to Alpha Axel. There seemed to be no downside in this business deal.

“Untie her!” Alpha Axel commanded, his tone icy, not even sparing me another glance, as he straightened up and walked back to his initial position.

The leader of the slave traders signaled to two men, and they immediately came to start untying me. Considering how rough they had handled me, I reckoned I must look ragged and dirty.

When they were done, they made me stand up, and Alpha Axel took a step or two forward, a little distance away from me, looking down at me. As a Queen previously, I had grown accustomed to holding my head up, so out of habit, I held my head up, meeting his gaze, trying to squint my eyes open to see him properly.

He didn't say a word to me; he just tossed a check towards the slavers, and the leader caught it, chuckling when he saw the amount.

“Come over here,” Alpha Axel commanded, his gaze still fixed on me. Despite knowing I was unrecognizable, my hands, out of instinct, touched my face; my cheeks felt heavier from the bruises I had sustained earlier. For once, I was thankful that the moon goddess had made me appear different to suit the shithole of a life I was shoved into.

Quickly recovering myself, I stepped behind Alpha Axel. After all, this was a better hell hole than being with the slavers.

“Thank you, Alpha Axel,” the leader of the slave traders said happily, as they picked up their bags and guns. “We will be on our way now.” Alpha Axel merely stared at them, his expression unreadable.

As they turned to leave, they were confronted by a pack of fierce-looking wolves, their eyes blazing with a menacing intent. The leader of the slave traders swallowed hard, his voice trembling slightly as he addressed Alpha Axel without totally turning his back, his grip on his dagger becoming stronger. “Alpha Axel, please grant us passage so we may leave in peace.”

But I knew, in that moment, that Alpha Axel had no intention of letting them leave his territory alive. His response was laced with a sinister tone, his eyes darkening with an unnerving intensity. “Why are you in such a hurry to leave? You should wait for the opening party - it promises to be... fun.” The humorless smile that spread across his face sent a chill down my spine, and I knew they were all in grave danger.

Not like I cared much anyways, they hadn't done anything that made nice that endeared them to me, rather they had been the sole reason for my humiliation.

“We-we can't w-w-wait any longer, we have to go. P-please grant us passage," the leader of the slave traders stuttered, his voice filled with desperation as he tried to convince Alpha Axel to let them leave. He was growing increasingly uncomfortable as the time passed, his eyes dancing nervously between Alpha Axel and his men.

But the man who spoke up next was unfazed, his tone as indifferent as Alpha Axel's. “But you can't leave just yet. I mean someone has to witness the show, else who will tell the story?” He sneered, his dominance and control obvious, stamping it clear in the minds of the slavers, that they were at the mercy of these ruthless wolves.

This was Axel's best friend, Kaiden. Only he had the courage to speak without the Alpha's permission. Although he appeared more approachable than Axel, at this moment, to the slave traders, he was nothing but a reaper. His words made the slave traders' hope of escape plummet further.

The leader of the slave traders swallowed hard, his face pale, like that of a vampire, as if just realizing the full extent of their situation. They were trapped, and Alpha Axel had no intention of letting them go anytime soon. The air was thick with tension, and I could sense the slave traders' fear and desperation as they gripped tight unto their weapons.

“We could return the money if you want, you can have the girl all to yourself. You don't need to give us a dime,” he said, stepping forward a bit as he threw the money at the feet of one of the guards, all in an effort to call a truce.

“That won't be necessary to say. I mean, that was the price for the girl, and we've paid it,” Kaiden said with a smirk, clearly enjoying the fear he could see in their faces because of his words. “If people were to find out that we bought a blood slave from you without paying, what do you think they would say about Alpha Axel? Don't you think it's worthy of ruining his reputation?”

“We won't tell anyone anything about this, not a single soul. Just grant us passage and we will leave the way we came,” The leader of the slave traders said, his voice giving way to fear.

Before Kaiden could continue messing with them, Alpha Axel cut in, “That's enough Kaiden, there's just enough validity even if it's one person spreading the news.”

The message behind Alpha Axel's statement was crystal clear: He wanted them dead. This only made my revenge several heads less; that didn't seem like a bad thing to say.

“What do you mean by this?” the leader of the slave traders asked, his voice trembling as his entire body shook with fear. But Alpha Axel ignored him, his body swiveling slowly as his attention became focused on me, his gaze unnerving and unreadable.

Suddenly, a warm hand grasped mine, and I winced in pain as the grip pressed into my bruised skin. The hand released mine as quickly as it had taken it, as if scalded by an iron. Alpha Axel's eyes flashed with rage, his teeth clenched in a snarl. “Leave only one alive!” he commanded, his voice cold and menacing.

ALPHA AXEL'S POV“Why did you assign her to your room if you don't trust her?” Kaiden asked as soon as we left the training arena. “Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer,” I replied with a bored tone. The phrase was something I had learnt due to interactions with humans for so long. “Did you forget what happened with Piper so soon?” Kaiden huffed, definitely not buying my reason. Piper was the daughter of my father's Beta and we had once been so close as friends until she tried to poison me following my parents death. Kaiden bringing up this particular matter made me clench my teeth in anger. Piper's betrayal still so fresh in my head.“Alpha,”“Alpha,”The guards outside the training room curtsied as I walked past them. “Can you even listen to yourself?” Kaiden boomed, his eyes darkening furiously. “We barely know her and you are going to trust her with your personal space.”“There's something about her…” I began but trailed off midway, unsure how to explain how diffe

AVA'S POV A knock broke up our little heart to heart discussion and goddess if I wasn't grateful for the interruption. There was no way I wanted to tell Sage what had happened but I couldn't lie either. Damn the Vampire Queen oath, I was bound not to tell lies. “You can go back to bed, you're pregnant, I'll check who's there,” I assured her, urging her to go back to bed. She obliged after a few seconds but I could see her hesitation. When I was sure I no longer appeared to have bawled my eyes to sleep, I pulled the door open and I was met with the face of one of the maids who was assigned to my room previously. ‘Thank goodness it wasn't the same maid,’ I muttered to myself. “You aren't dressed?” she asked, an alarmed look on her face as she forced her way in, looking me all over. “Dressed for what e

“What happened here?” I heard beta Kaiden ask but Alpha Axel kept mute and instead helped him up, leading him away without as much as a stare. Beta Kaiden's eyes met mine, confusion gracing his face, but I immediately turned my face away, staring at the earth beneath as they walked away. I stayed there for a while, watching them till they were out of sight and then the tears that had long threatened to fall, came running down along my cheeks. I whimpered softly so as not to alert anyone. My hands finding its way to my cheeks as I cleaned it slowly. “Ava?” I heard a soft voice behind me all of a sudden, making me jump in fright. It wasn't any I was familiar with. “Ma'am, it's just me,” the voice came again, granting me a good sight of the owner of the voice. That was a pretty familiar face. One of the maids who had helped arrange my room.

“Give me an answer to something I'm very inquisitive about, why do you, for some very crazy reason, always get involved with trouble?” Alpha Axel asked; staring down at me from where he stood. It felt kinda weird, awkward as well so I slowly stood up, confused on what to do.“I asked a question!” Alpha Axel suddenly raised his voice, causing me to jump in surprise at his tone.“I came out for a walk,” I began, meeting his icy gaze with a gaze of the same intensity. “Then he attacked me. How does that count as me having a tendency of always getting into trouble?”He stared at me for a long period of time or so I thought and I met his gaze for a long ti

AVA'S POV“Just how many broken people were in this pack? I should leave him alone with his problem, I mean, even I have mine to solve.” I muttered, just wanting to leave quickly and quietly without disturbing him. But his next words made me stop dead in my tracks.“Sage...” he called out again. Lifting his head, his eyes suddenly snapped in my direction. It was Kaiden. But there was something about him that was too scary. His beautiful brown eyes were gone, it was replaced with a blood red color, fully highlighted under the full moon.He dangerously stalked towards me and I'd be damned if I wasn't scared. I stepped back slowly, wanting to keep as much gap between us as possible.Suddenly, I couldn't see him again, the fear making me shiver furiously as I looked around, still retreating slowly until suddenly I hit a wall. A wall of flesh! I slowly turned, dreading what I would see. And that's when I saw him.Beta Kaiden's face was just inches from mine, his blood-red eyes blazing w

  • Vampire's Moon    CHAPTER 18

AVA'S POVThe pain, sorrow and regrets in her eyes were evident, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of empathy towards her. Despite the situation, I found myself wanting to comfort her, to tell her that everything would be okay. But deep down, I knew that the wounds ran too deep, and forgiveness would not come easily.I didn't know what to say or do, so I sat there, just staring and hoping that my presence was enough to speak volumes. “You're the first who hasn't ever run from me. Are you new to the pack?” Sage asked, after a while, when she was calmer. “Technically, I've been in the pack for the past forty days - in a coma.” I said rather playfully, but the look she gave me was one filled with pity. “How long have you been in this place, secluded from everyone else in the pack?” I asked, my curiosity piqued. “Almost three months now,” Sage said, a smile dazzling up her face. “I'm guessing no one dared to visit you here?” I asked again, even though I was sure of the answer. “E

AVA'S POV“I'm sorry, what?” I asked, shifting forward, as I stared at her, wondering if I heard right. “I know, I know. It's not very believable because of the situation I find myself in right now,” She said, sobbing once again. “What happened then? I mean, isn't your mate supposed to be totally crazy about you? I mean...” I trailed off, realizing how immature of me it would be if I stated the obvious, despite knowing that she was not in the right frame of mind.“Oh come on, go on. You wanted to say something, say it. I'm listening,” She said, gently taking my hands as she urged me. “I-I mean, he totally treats you like you don't exist. Why will he do such a thing to you? He's your mate!” I exclaimed as if trying to prove something to her, my gaze narrowing as I stared intently at her. “I was his mate,” She said, placing my hands gently on my laps, as she pulled back to relax on the bed rest. “He rejected me after what I did, but I swear on this child I'm carrying, it was a mist

  • Vampire's Moon    CHAPTER 16

AVA'S POVThe maids stared at me in confusion for a while, but I ignored them like I didn't know what I just said. They must have made a silent agreement within themselves as they decided to follow the direction of my hand rather than my mouth. The maids arranged the left half of the room. They were almost done though, when one of the maids opened the wardrobe and started pulling out the clothes one by one, as if they were rags. “Stop it!” I called out, prompting all the maids to stop what they were doing, as they stared at me, waiting for the next instruction, “Who instructed you to clean that part of the room?” The maids exchanged glances amongst each other, their expression of confusion as they stared back at me. “I clearly stated, clear the right half of the room, so what are you doing clearing the left?”The maid who had spoken before wanted to say something, but she didn't follow through on it. They went to work on the other half and soon the room was absolutely tidied except

Beta Kaiden's eyes snapped up to meet mine, a hint of guilt flashing across his face. “Ah, the dagger. I don't know... ” He said, trying to keep his eyes on my face. “Where is the dagger?” I asked, turning to grab the gown I had pulled off a while ago. It was a loose fitting blush coloured short gown, it had been made with lightweight materials that gave the feeling of comfort and beauty to the wearer. As if enchanted, as soon as I pulled down the gown over my body, he snapped back to his senses. “You were saying?” He asked again, his eyes blinking repeatedly.“Where is the dagger?” I asked again, covering the distance between us, to look up at him. Just like Alpha Axel, Beta Kaiden was just about the same height.“The dagger is a trail, we need it to find out who needed the Alpha dead by all means possible.” Beta Kaiden said, thinking about something. He made to say something but he plopped his mouth shut again. “Okay, this is where you'll be staying while you serve your confinemen
