Chapter 1

Light pierced through the darkness, and I found myself standing in front of a door, my hand on the doorknob.

Inside, I heard laughter.

"Our son is so smart, knowing not to disturb us. I'd say he got the best of both of us."

Then came a string of sounds I couldn't bear to hear.

I clutched the doorknob tightly, the pain in my heart suffocating. The memory of slamming onto the concrete below rushed back—a crushing, unbearable agony, like being run over by a truck.

In my last life, I had trusted my family without a second thought.

I never imagined my husband, Sam Hodgson, and my sister, Irene Baxter, had been hooking up all along.

Nor did I expect my mother's bias to reach such an extreme. She stood by as Irene pushed me off the building.

Perhaps the god pitied me, unwilling to let me be deceived any longer. He had granted me a second chance.

I slowly released the doorknob and retreated to the stairwell. Taking out my phone, I began recording.

Soon, my front door opened. Irene wrapped her arms around Sam's neck, exchanging a series of deep kisses before letting him leave.

Before she returned inside, Sam gave her a squeeze on the backside, eliciting a giggle.

I covered my mouth tightly, forcing myself to remain silent. I could hardly believe these adulterous pair dared to indulge in it in broad daylight.

The baby's wails broke the air. Irene rushed inside, expertly scooping the child into her arms to soothe him.

I had died once already—killed by their scheming hands.

In my previous life, I thought Irene's doting care for my son during my postpartum recovery period was due to her inability to have children. I had believed she loved her nephew out of genuine affection.

How naive I had been. Their hearts were filthy. They had never regarded me as a human being.

Looking at Irene's youthful, beautiful face, I felt a pang of bitterness.

She looked nothing like our mother but bore an uncanny resemblance to our father.

Later, I learned Sam had signed a gambling agreement with investors. He borrowed funds from a local loan shark to launch his company, betting everything on going public.

They would make sure he lost everything if he didn't pay the loan shark back.

When I caught them red-handed, it was during a critical moment in their plans.

Realizing they couldn't afford to let me expose them, they pushed me off the balcony without hesitation.

I screamed and struggled, crying for help. But my mother, cradling my child in the other room, never came to check.

This time, I wouldn't let them push me around.

  • Vengeance Is Best Served Cold   Chapter 14

My name was Sam Hodgson.I fell for a young girl, Irene, who started working part-time at my company. She was twelve years younger than me. Using manipulation and the allure of a life filled with luxury, I managed to win her over completely. But Irene couldn't have children. That left me wondering—what would happen to my company without an heir? When I shared my concern with Irene, she immediately proposed an idea: marry her sister, Willow. That way, we could openly stay together while using Willow to give me the heir I needed. When Irene showed me Willow's picture, I was intrigued by her beauty. The plan seemed perfect. So, at a party, I arranged for my friends to get her drunk. Then, I swooped in to play the hero. Just as Irene predicted, Willow was touched by my "kindness". Still, Irene insisted that the unattainable always held greater allure. So, I spent a full year courting her before finally convincing her to marry me.Once we were married, I focused on one thing: getting he

My name was Willow Baxter. In my previous life, I was pushed to my death by my husband and sister in front of my mother and son. That was when I realized I had been nothing more than a tool for them—a means to produce an heir. They had been secretly involved all along, using me to bear a child for their sake. Once the child no longer needed me, their plan was simple: divorce me and leave me penniless. But not this time. Armed with the memories of my past life, I was determined to stay one step ahead. The first thing I did was sabotage a critical deal Sam needed to secure his company's listing on the stock market. Without it, his business couldn't go public. Then I introduced him to Fred, a cunning opportunist, and planted the seeds of jealousy in Irene. When Sam was on the verge of signing another contract, Irene's jealousy exploded, causing a public scene. The deal slipped through his fingers, and Irene was assaulted. It was a perfect example of losing on all fronts. Next, I i

My phone rang shortly after. "Willow, give me 150 thousand, and I'll give your son back to you." Irene's trembling voice came through the line."Fine. Wait while I get the money," I replied, hanging up immediately. I ensured the call was recorded and neatly saved before then calling the police. Using the GPS bug I had planted on my mother's phone, the authorities quickly pinpointed their location. The two of them were holed up in a shabby motel, waiting to make a run for it as soon as I delivered the money. After retrieving Ronnie, I rushed him to the hospital for a check-up. Thankfully, he had only been given some sedatives, and the doctor assured me he'd be fine once it was metabolized."Your son has rare blood—AB negative. Make sure he never gets injured," the doctor warned. AB negative? I stared at the test results, my mind spinning. Sam and I had O and B blood types, respectively—how could our child have AB blood? I had never been unfaithful, so… I immediately repo

In my past life, Sam's company thrived due to a mix of opportunity and genuine potential, which was why Archer had agreed to work with me this time, acquiring the company at a low price. I wasn't greedy. I only took a 20% stake, leaving Archer to profit handsomely from the acquisition. With his life in shambles, Sam tried to reconcile with Irene, but she wasn't much better off. Then my mother came pleading on Irene's behalf, stoking a storm of emotions inside me. I had once believed in motherly love, but now I realized I was nothing more than something to be discarded. "Irene can't have children. Why can't you just let her have Ronnie? I tried to tell you, but you caught them together instead. Even though I've always known about them, what was I supposed to do? She's my daughter!" Frustrated, she shouted and threw things, her anger spilling out in all directions. I stared at her, suddenly struck by how little I truly knew her. When I returned home, I found the n

Soon, we moved into our new home, bringing a nanny along with us. My company capitalized on the buzz and secured several new contracts. Meanwhile, after I asked Sonia to mediate, Fred and Sam smoothed things over. Sam's company started to stabilize as well, and he became busier by the day, barely spending any time at home. Through the surveillance cameras, I watched Irene act like she owned the place. "Don't worry," she said, clinging to Sam while her hands wandered over him. "With that idiot threatening Willow, she'll hand Ronnie over for sure." Hearing her call my mother an "idiot" felt strange. For years, my mother had given her everything, yet Irene showed no gratitude. It was then I realized that she bore no resemblance to my mother. A suspicion began to take root in my mind. Sam, irritated by her chatter, brushed her off with an excuse about work and left. Angered, Irene used the location tracker on Sam's phone to follow him to a hotel. There, she fo

"Why should Ronnie go to you? I raised him—he's my child!" Irene glared at the divorce agreement, snatched it up, and tore it into pieces in a fit of rage. "That's fine. I've got more." Calmly, I pulled another copy from my bag and placed it in front of Sam. "I'm walking away with nothing but my son." Sam's eyes darted nervously as if weighing his options. His company was just starting to pick up steam, earning close to 150 thousand dollars a year. If we divorced, half of everything would legally go to me, and I knew he couldn't bear to part with it. Without hesitation, he signed. "Willow, you don't even have a job right now. How are you going to take care of Ronnie?" Irene batted her eyelashes at me and tugged gently at my mother's sleeve. "That's right, Willow. Since you're back, why don't we all just live together like before?" My mother watched as Sam received an urgent call, grabbed his briefcase, and hurried off. Then she turned her attention to me, cle
