Dante's pov

It has been exactly five days and I haven't seen Kayla. My wife. Not like I wanted to . But it was as if she knew how to stay close without showing her face. And I liked that. I didn't Want to see her fave.

For the last five days, work kept me alive, going to the oggy. Finalizing deals. Closing thingy. Keeping busy so I wouldn't think. Wouldn't remember. Wouldn't feel but tonight. I needed a break. My head was full. My chest was heavier that usual.

I stared at the girl in front of me with glass of whiskey in my hand. The drink burned the back of my throat. I took another sip. She was standing a few feet away, in a short black mini dress, heels that clicked against the tiles, and a look in her eyes that made her intentions clear. Seduction was her weapon tonight.

Music played in the bac, something slow with a dirty rhythm. I wasn't the type to invite whores over to my house. I usually didn't need to. But tonight, I didn't have the strength to go out. So I asked her to come.

She started dancing. Slowly. Moving her hips in time with the music. Her eyes never left mine. I didn't move. I didn't smile. I just watched her.

She turned around, ran her hands up her own body, and pulled down the zip at the back of her dress. It fell to the floor like nothing. She was wearing a matching undies set underneath. Tight on her skin and then she moved closer.

I leaned back on the couch and took another drink. I wasn't even sure if I wanted her. I just didn't want to feel empty. She reached for the clasp of her bra.

And then the door opened. I never locked my door. But nobody in this house dared to walk into my room without knocking. Nobody. Until one human did. My so called wife.. Kayla

She walked in, holding a phone in her hand, immediately she saw the scet in front of her, she looked at me then at the girl. Then back at me again.

The girl froze, quickly grabbing her dress and clutching it to her chest, covering herself like she had just remembered shame. I didn't even flinch. “ What are you doing here?” I asked, my voice cold. Kayla didn't blink. “ My father said He's been trying to contact you. You are not picking up. He wants to have a meeting with you”.

“ You can go now”, I waved my hands carelessly. Kayla raised a brow. “ I can go wherever I want. This is my house too”. I didn't respond. I just stared at her.

Her scar was visible. That thin line running down her neck. Barely noticeable unless you were looking. Her eyes, one the colour of honey, the other grey, it only reminded me of everything. The surgeries. The accident. The fact that she survived. That she was still here. That she ruined everything.

She should have died. Nmbut instead, she became this beautiful. Too beautiful. Her eyes made her look like an angel sent down to earth.

But her beauty wouldn't make me forget the truth.

She was a killer. A monster. She was Kayla.

“ Leave my room” I said. She let out a soft laugh. Not loud. Not mocking. Just calm. Then she walked across the room and sat beside me on the couch like she belonged there. She crossed her legs. Got comfortable. Reached for my glass and poured herself more whiskey like she had done it a thousand times.

The girl in front of me looked shaken. Still clutching her dress. “ I should go, she said quietly.

Kayla didn't even glance her way. “ No. You don't have to go” “ I really should” the girl repeated, her voice small.

“ What are you doing, Kayla?” I asked, stariy at her. She turned to me with a slow Smit. “ Husband, I can see you are enjoying yourself here. Why don't you both enjoy it together?”

Then she turned her head to the girl and said

“ Strip.” it took me a second to process what she just said. “ Strip,” Kayla repeated, her voice steady, eyes calm.

I snapped out of my daze. “ Stop this”, I said sharply, standing. She turned to me slowly.

“ Husband, you don't want to spoil the mood, right? “ Her boot was light, playful..and dangerous.

Then she looked back at the girl. “ You didn't hear me? I said strip”. The girl looked between us, clearly confused. Her gaze lingered on me , searching for a sign.

I gave a slow nod and sat down. I wanty to see where kayly was going with this. I wanted to know what kind of game she was playing.

Kayla walked over to the bar, picked up my half empty glass of whiskey and tool a sip. Then she made herst comfortable in the armchair across from me. Her legs crossed, the short silk gown she wore slipping slightly to reveal more of her thigh. Not too short. Not too revealing, but enough to make a man notify. She didn't care.

The music got louder. The girl in front of us started to move her hips again, this time less confidently. But I wasn't watching her. I was watching Kayla.

She didn't even blink. Her eyes were locked on the girl. Cold and calm like she was watching a movie. What the hell is this? I thought.

“ You are missing the fun,” she said without looking at me. “ Look at her.

I turned my gaze back to the girl just as her hands moved behind her back. She unclasped her bra. Her breasts spilled out, round and soft, her nipples tight as she continued dancing to the slow beat. The bra fell to the floor.

She was nervous. I could tell. Not because she was naked. But because Kayla was watching her like she was studying a chess pieces. Still, she didn't stop. Then Kayla leaned forward, resting her elbow on the armrest. Her voice was soft but sharp.

“ Come. Touch him.” I stared at her. “ Something must be wrong with you, “ I muttered”.

She titled her head slightly, smiling like this as the most normal thing in the world. “ Oh no, husband. Don't be shy . This is what you wanted , right?” Her voice was sweet. Too sweet. “ You are going to get it.”

Then she turned back to the girl and said, “ I don't want to repeat myself. Come touch him” .

Chapter 85The phone felt like ice against Dante's ear. Nolan's words kept repeating in his head. “Jake's body is gone.” The empty corridor of the hospital seemed to shrink around him. The lights were so bright they hurt his eyes. The smell of his skin made him feel sick. He could still taste the blood and smoke from the mansion."Say that again, Nolan, " Dante said quietly. "Tell me what you just saw.""The room is a mess from the fire but the floor where you left Jake... It's empty, " Nolan's voice came through the phone. "There's a mark on the floor. Someone pulled him out before the wall fell. He didn't die on that floor. He was still breathing when we left."Dante's fingers tightened around his phone. He didn't breathe. He thought about the dressing room about hitting Jake's face about feeling his ribs break. He had been so sure."He fooled me, " Dante said to himself. A cold weight dropped into his stomach. "He lay there. Took it because he knew I'd leave when Kayla went into la

Dante stood by the edge of the mattress, his big hands empty now that the nurses had made him let go of Kayla's hand. They were moving her toward the doors at the back of the room heading straight for the operating room. The wheels of the bed made a bad clicking sound against the floor."We need the surgical room ready now!" the doctor shouted, his white coat stained with red spots as he ran alongside the moving bed. "Shes getting very sick! We have to find where shes bleeding before her heart stops completely!"Dante took a step to follow them his big boots slippery with mud. A nurse stepped right in front of him with her hands up. "Sir you can't go into the operating room. You have to stay.""Move out of my way " Dante growled, his voice deep and rough. He didn't look at her; his eyes were fixed on the back of Kaylas head as the doors started to close."Mr. Cruz please " the nurse said, "If you go th

The truck came to a halt right under the bright fluorescent lights of the ambulance drop-off zone. Before the engine could even sputter to a stop Dante had his door open. He threw himself out into the humid night air. "Get help out now" Dante yelled. His voice was a sound that shattered the quiet of the sterile bay. He did not look like a billionaire anymore. His expensive white shirt was torn down the front. It was stained with grease and brown mud and his wife's blood. His face was streaked with soot and rain. His eyes were wide and bloodshot from panic. He threw the passenger door open. His hands were shaking violently as he reached inside. "Give him to me. Give me my son" Dante said. The lead medic was trembling. His face was completely pale as he handed the bundle over. The baby was terrifyingly li

Her head rolled to the side. Her lips were still a shade of blue. Her breathing was so shallow Dante could barely see her chest rise. He did not stop to look at Kayla for more than a second.
