LOGIN~Chapter Seventy Two~Elara’s POV I stormed out of the clinic with no answers. The fact that the doctor refused to tell me anything made me regret coming to the clinic in the first place. After I asked whether I was the problem, he shook his head. When I asked if I needed to be bitten again, he said no to that too. That should have given me some relief. Instead, my desperate need to understand what was happening to Kai only grew stronger. Why had a giant wolf suddenly appeared in front of me? What exactly was needed for the incomplete bond they were hiding? Was it really that hard for him to make a decision? Harder than marking me, even after we knew the consequence was death? Frustrated, I headed to the coffee shop, hoping I’d find Zara there. Just as I expected, she was there talking to a young man who looked vaguely familiar. The moment she spotted me, she walked over with a grin and a drink in hand. “Ooh… look who finally decided to show up,” she teased. “God, Zara.”
~Chapter Seventy One~ Elara’s POV “What do we need to do to complete the bond?” I asked. He looked at me for a long moment before looking away. “Kai?” I called, my voice low. Why did he stop talking? Was it bad news? Or… was I the problem? His jaw tightened instead as he turned toward the door. My heart dropped, hoping he’d tell me something… anything. But he opened the door. “Get some rest. We have a long day tomorrow.” Before I could ask another question, the sound of the door closing echoed through the room. What long day was he talking about? He had left me hanging with so many questions. It was becoming a habit for him. Fine. If he wouldn’t tell me…I’d find out myself. The next morning, I woke up feeling strangely drained. One of those mornings when all I wanted was to stay in bed, lock myself away from everyone, and think. For the first time, I didn’t even bother wondering where Kai had gone. I was used to him leaving before I woke up. Maybe
~Chapter Seventy~Elara’s POVHe moved lower, stopping at my waist, and my heart began racing all over again. His fingers tightened slightly at my waist, and the low growl that escaped him was not entirely human.Oh no… was he about to transform again? Before I could turn, he let go of me.The loss of his touch felt colder than the night.I turned around slowly. His golden eyes flickered for a second before he looked away.I cupped his cheeks with both hands. “Tell me. What is the medicine for, and why did you transform the way you did?”I could barely make out his face in the shadows.“Elara…” He paused, breathing hard. “We should go back inside.”“That’s not an answer, Kai.” I held his hands. “What’s happening to you?”His jaw tightened. “I’m trying to keep you safe.”How? Not knowing isn’t helping me know what he's protecting me from.“From what?” I stepped in front of him as if I could stop him from walking away.“You could have gotten hurt today, Elara,” he said through clenched
~Chapter Sixty Nine~ Elara’s POV It’s okay,” I said, gathering the courage to move closer to him even though I was still shaking. The wolf’s breathing became faster as it turned toward me. I flinched and covered my face just as it sneezed right in my face. When I opened my eyes, Kai was standing where the wolf had been, completely naked. “Oh God!” I gasped and immediately turned around. He was huge in every aspect of his body. A moment ago, I had been staring at a monster. What the hell just happened? “Get me the pack doctor,” he said in a low voice. I swallowed and nodded, but I didn’t leave immediately. His voice didn’t sound good. “Are you okay?” I asked. “Go, Elara!” he snapped, and I hurried off to find help. Thankfully, the pack doctor wasn’t hard to find. He was standing with a group of men, laughing and drinking I interrupted them and whispered, “Kai needs you.” Concern flashed across his face as he quickly excused himself and followed me. “Do I need my kit?”
~Chapter Sixty Eight~Elara’s POVThe music started, and everyone moved onto the dance floor, swaying in unison as laughter filled the hall.Kai took my hand before I even realized what was happening and pulled me onto the dance floor.I had never danced before, so I kept stepping on his toes, and every mistake ended in laughter. Please don’t let this be a dream, I prayed. Not when it feels so perfect.“Aren’t you going to say anything?” I asked, struggling to get the words out.His grip on my waist tightened as he moved me effortlessly. “What is there to say?” he whispered in my ear.A sudden chill ran through my spine.“Really?”In books, when two people danced like this, they talked about hidden feelings, compliments, and everything they had been too afraid to say.Kai, however, seemed completely relaxed for someone who had just humiliated his aunt and shocked the entire audience. He never seemed bothered by what people would say about the decisions he made. That was the Kai I had
~Chapter Sixty Seven~Kai’s POVThen I glanced at Elara, who was impossible to ignore with how beautiful she looked, before standing and walking toward the stage, ready to announce the promoted members.I cleared my throat before speaking. “I invite Beta Kelvin to join me on stage as one of the award presenters.”Kelvin walked forward as the hall erupted into applause. The first group on the list was the patrol guards. I had personally approved the promotion of the patrol leader and the three guards who survived the attack for their service and sacrifice.I called up the three chosen guards, including the patrol leader I had spoken to earlier. As they stepped forward, applause echoed through the hall.“These patrol members survived the attack at the boundary,” I said, looking around the crowd. “Today they are being honored for standing their ground and defending their fellow wolves during a time of crisis. For that, they are hereby promoted to Senior Patrol Guards.”I called each of t
~Chapter Two~Elara’s POVBlindfolded, all I could hear were footsteps.Who were these people.Heat flowed through my stomach. My hands wouldn’t stop shaking no matter how hard I tried.“And keep her in the room next to mine.”Those were his last words to his guards after my plea of being innocent.
~Chapter One~Elara’s POV“Just do it, Elara,” Sarai whispered from behind me. “Give it to the man at the head of the table. "I promise you, he will clear your debt to the house. You’ll finally be free from your aunt's torment.”I sighed. This was my only chance to cover three months of rent my au
~Chapter Four~Elara’s PovI ran deep into the woods hoping for a familiar trace of home.My lungs burned, my chest pounded fast like it would burst. My eyes were fuzzy as I continued to lose blood. I didn't know how long I had been walking but I had to keep moving.I kept running yet no familiar
Chapter Three Kai’s Pov “Mate! She is our Mate!” My wolf stirred trying to resurface. As an alpha I had learnt how to suppress my wolf from dominating. But this time he growled loudly at the back of my head making it unbearable to suppress. I clenched my fist underneath the council table as I
