LOGIN~Chapter Two~
Elara’s POV Blindfolded, all I could hear were footsteps. Who were these people. Heat flowed through my stomach. My hands wouldn’t stop shaking no matter how hard I tried. “And keep her in the room next to mine.” Those were his last words to his guards after my plea of being innocent. He showed no mercy. As he commanded, I felt a strong forward push; afterward, I heard the door click from the outside. I removed the blindfold, and tears rolled down my face. But when I looked around, I gasped stunned by the well-furnished, lit, beautiful room with a large bed, clean curtains, and a chandelier. Nothing like the tiny space I had to sleep in at my aunt’s, where I had a leaking roof, a broken mat, and a cold floor. Why would a prisoner be thrown into a room this luxurious? I could only imagine how his room would be. I rushed to the door and banged on it consistently. I lost count. "Please let me out!" I cried out loud, as I fell to the ground. "What are you going to do to me now?" There was no answer. Outside, everything seemed still. I could barely hear movements. What the hell was going on? Did Sarai mean all those things she said? What was the man at the table changing into? Everything I saw out there wasnt real right? Panic kicked in. The walls started to feel like they were closing in. I needed to escape from here; otherwise, who knew what they were up to. I searched the room desperately, under the bed, behind the curtains, everywhere. looking for another exit, a key, anything to escape from. Yet, nothing. I paced around, my mind numb with ideas of escape. I nearly tripped over my own feet. After hours, I got tired. Why me! How had I gotten into this situation in one night? I guess it was stupid of me to trust Sarai. I hit my fist on the wall. My eyes burned from crying all night until I dozed off. The next morning… I heard footsteps coming from outside. I bolted up, moving backwards. The door clicked open, and two heavy men moved close to me, grabbed my arms, and dragged me through a hallway. I twisted my arms. "Let me go!" At that moment, I got too weak to talk, I had been restless all through the night, unable to sleep. They put to a halt in a large hall with the same moon and wolf animal markings. What was going on here? At the center was a long table. The Man they called Alpha was seated in the middle, his face stone cold. I had seen him revive from poison and almost transformed into something else. I was terrified of what he was. My body fidgeted even though I tried to look strong. The lady who slapped me sat beside him with a satisfying smile followed by another fierce looking man. And the audience were tall, intimidating. “Alpha Kai,” the man called out. “Yes, Elder,” he replied, bowing slightly. So this is a court room . I’m definitely dead. “I hear the human girl tried to poison you,” he said” Do you know her? “No trace, ” Kai answered coldly. The Elder sighed. “She will be judged today by you before the Knight pack and Great council elders. We do not ignore threats that involves our Alpha.” He said, bowing slightly. My knees almost gave out hearing that. The Alpha looked at me. “What’s your name? And where do you reside?” His dark eyes locked onto mine, sending a rush of cold through me. “I am Elara Thompson. I reside with my aunt at sidehill,” I replied with a low voice. “What brought you here?” I opened my mouth and the words hooked in my throat as I looked away from him. Was I really about to tell them I came to seduce and sleep with him? “That's the first offence. You invaded werewolves territory and served at a party you weren’t invited to?” Huh? Werewolf? I was lost in a daze for a second trying to understand what the fuck he meant by werewolves? It couldn’t be real right? I shivered, tapping my fingers nervously. I didn’t believe in werewolves from stories but now everything I had seen in this place was anything but funny. “I was-“ He cut me off. “You only talk when I ask. Is that clear?” I nodded. Trying so much to hold back my tears. “You served me a poisoned drink. Who sent you? What's your plea?” “I plead not guilty,” I stammered. “No one sent me.” “But you served the drink?” He yelled, hitting his fist on the table. The sound was loud. I shook unexpectedly. “Sarai asked me to serve. I stuttered, tears welled up in my eyes. “Who is Sarai?” He asked. Before I could answer, the woman stood up. “Lying bitch,” she spat. “You tried to kill my nephew. “I don’t even know how to kill,” I whispered, trying not to cry. “Shut up!” She yelled before sitting down. I had never felt more scared and humiliated. The thought of no one coming to save me from them made my legs shake even more. It made me want to piss on myself. “Do you have evidence that you didn’t?” the elder asked. My mind went blank as I squeezed my fist. Sarai was my only proof. “Speak up,” the Elder added. His voice brought me back to reality. “No, but Sarai—” “Is Sarai present?” the elder asked before I could finish. “No, my lord. From the onset, there was no one by the name at the party.” One of the guards replied. My heart stopped. How? Is this a dream? I cried out, couldn’t hold it anymore. The hall filled with whispers. “What’s going on? We were together. Please believe me.” My head started spinning. Everything played out like a dream. I wish I had stayed back. Maybe being thrown to the street would have made much sense. “Enough,” the Alpha commanded. They whispered among themselves. The Elder spoke up. “Based on lack of evidence in the defendant’s favor, the council finds the accused guilty of attempted murder.” “This crime is punishable by death.” Your death will send a hint to your masters not to cross our paths again. Everything went silent in my head. Did he just say death? “Kill the human!” “Kill her!” “Kill her!” The crowd growled. Reciting it like a rhyme. Some scratched the floor with their claws. “No…no please I’m innnocent.” I knelt down, pleading. My hands shook, tears flowed non stop. “I didn’t do it,” I said with a cracked voice. I looked at the Alpha, but he didn’t look back. He turned his face slightly, as if he were not concerned. Who was going to save me now? Obviously not my aunty. The elder turned to him. “Alpha Kai. Before we dismember her in front of everyone, what are your last words to your attempted killer?” Last words? Cold Shiver ran down my spine. Uncontrollable tears rushed down my face. God was this my poor end? Die for what I didn’t do in the hands of werewolves? Was this really happening? The guards held me up with their sharp claws stretched towards me. Everyone in the hall silently turned to Kai. He walked up to me. Just a few steps away. His eyes fixed on mine. “Please have mercy” I pleaded like my life depended on him. “You should never have come here” he whispered in a calm voice, “ Now you will never get to see daylight again” My feet turned cold. Chills ran through my spine. My body shaking. I shut my eyes, my hands squeezed . It was really happening. Memories of my horrible life crashed my mind. Yet it was worth living for my Mom. He turned to the audience. “With the power vested in me as both the Alpha and the victim of this attack,” he paused letting the words weigh heavily deeep in my heart.” “ I command her to be set free and completely free of charges,” he continued. What? My jaw dropped at that instance. Was this another chance? Whispers filled the air. “What do you mean, Kai?” His aunt who slapped me asked. “Why spare a human girl that tried to murder you? Another voice came from the audience.” He turned to me and for a minute he said nothing, before he turned back to them. “Because she is my mate.”~Chapter Twenty~ Kai’s POV “I’m tired of us fighting and acting like strangers.” She paused. “Can you spend the night with me?” “Are you sure?” I asked. “Yes, you don’t need to leave.” She said, calmly. “The bed is wide and it’s your room after all.” “O…Okay,” I couldn’t think of what to say. For someone who couldn’t stand to see my bare chest earlier, it was impossible to believe she just invited me to bed. She adjusted to the edge of the bed, her gown pulling up and revealing her thighs as she gestured to the empty space beside her before turning away. My wolf wouldn’t turn away from the sight of her clear, alluring thighs. “Stop staring,” I snapped at my wolf. He purred. “She’s our mate.” With him like this, I was barely going to survive tonight sleeping next to her. “Men like me don’t sleep with shirts on. You know that, right?” I said, with the intention to scare her. Her shoulders jumped slightly at my words before she spoke up. “I don’t mind, I’ll face the wall
~Chapter Nineteen~Elara’s POVShe paused for a while, pointing to her head. “Oh, I remember. There was a woman who used to cook here years ago. She loved to cook this same thing and had a similar smile as yours.”My heart rate spiked. “Wait, is it May Thompson?”She rolled her eyes. “No, I doubt it. Her name is Miranda.”My chest dropped again. I almost thought it was my mom she spoke about.“Where is she now?” I asked, curious.“She disappeared one day with no trace, till now, we’ve heard nothing from her. She was one of our best cooks, and I miss her.”“I’m sorry to hear that,” I sympathized. “It must have been really hard, getting used to not seeing her.”She nodded with a sigh.I always relate to losing people. It wasn’t a good feeling to start with.In a few minutes, the meal was done as the aroma filled the whole kitchen.“It smells nice, let me have a taste,” the old chef said, taking a bite. She nodded with her eyes closed. “It tastes as good as it smells. Trust me, when this
~Chapter Eighteen~ Elara’s POVWhat would Kai have said in this situation?A lot of options ran through my head but I had to decide on something logical.I exhaled slowly, moving closer to the visitors. “We don’t take accusations lightly. Who was the witness?” My voice came out louder than expected.“The witnesses are not here. It is rumored by the traders who saw one of you kill ours,” She stated.“Of all things to be certain of, it should never be a rumor.” I paused. “Provide us with proof or we won’t accept the claims you bring.”One of the men with a hunchback stood up. “My son is a witness. He’s not here because he had to go hunting, but with your permission I could say his exact words.”I nodded. “Go ahead.”“He returned hunting three days ago with a sad countenance, telling me he lost one of their men to an unexpected attack from one of your men who had your uniform and crest on it. So with this, we are in for negotiations.”This was clear. It could have really been this pack
~Chapter Seventeen~ Elara’s POV “What? No, I… I stepped back. “Why Would I Steal Money?” He lifted the envelope slightly. “Then how did this get to you?” I looked at him, trying to process the accusation. “First you accuse me of attempting murder, now this?” He towered over. “Don’t play the victim here, now whose is it?” My heart raced as I paused, searching for the right words. “Speak up now.” His eyes turned gold, heat radiating from him. “Your aunt gave it to me,” I spat. “My aunt? He lifted his brow. Why on earth would she give you an envelope full of money?” “She threatened me to leave tonight….I stuttered. “I think she’s up to something.” I poured out everything I know, hoping he’d believe me. “I’ve always known you were such a liar,” He said, looking away from me. The implication hit like a slap. He thought… “Wait, you think I’m lying?” My voice cracked as I pressed my lips together. “Ask her yourself then, maybe then you’d confirm it’s true.” When was he eve
~Chapter Sixteen~Elara’s POV“Leave tonight or face what comes.”It didn’t seem like some empty threat. She was dead serious.By the time she was far gone, I shut the door behind me, leaned against it and exhaled deeply.Good thing Kai wasn’t coming back tonight, not after our argument. It was going to be easy leaving, but where? I could not imagine stepping foot in my aunt’s house after everything.I turned to the heavy envelope lying on the bed. With it I could get a place, start a business because it looked like a lot, but fear wouldn’t let me touch or count it.A woman who never liked me wouldn’t just hand over money out of kindness, there had to be something. But what?Quickly, I changed into one of the simple dresses from the wardrobe as her words kept playing in my head before a knock at the door made my stomach twist.I paused for a while to be sure I wasn’t exaggerating.“Who is it?” My voice came out lighter than I intended but no answer.I stared at the door, my chest poun
~Chapter FIFTEEN ~ Elara’s POV “Excuse me? You piece of shit!” The words came out before I could hold myself. Every eye in the hall turned to me, including Kai. I’m sure she wanted this, to push my nerves too hard so I’d ruin everything left. I guess I fell for her trap. The hall felt like it was closing in and my mind fixed on two options. Run or face her. I was about to run when Kai spoke up from the stage, "Seize her.” Two guards moved from the right end of the hall towards my direction. My heart slammed hard against my rib cage and my breath caught in my throat. “Huh? Me? She came at me first. I wasn’t going to just–” At this point I wished the ground could open up and swallow me. To my surprise the guards walked past me to where Sarai stood, dragging her by the arms. She followed the guards quietly without making a scene or saying a word. Finally, that served her right. Right then Relief flooded my chest and at the same time amazed at how Kai stood up for
